As always, delicious meals for our party of 6. I especially love the lamb. Thoroughly enjoyed the meals we had during our two visits last week

A warm cosy pub on a cold night. Friendly and helpful staff took us to our table ina warm dining room. The food was delicious. A lovely evening though the beer was very expensive.
We stayed in Elterwater for a week and this was a great pub to have on our doorstep. Great selection of cask ales, log fires, and certain rooms dog friendly. We stopped here for a post walk beer a few times and ate one evening....Some excellent specials - I had a particularly good shoulder of lamb. Gets very busy in evenings - deservedly soMore
Stayed with a friend for two nights. A lovely traditional Lakeland pub. Great staff, food excellent, a lovely clean comfortable room and a good bar. Ticks all the boxes and more! Would definitely stay again.
Always a must when in the Lake District, great bar, good service and great local ales, what’s not to love.
We stayed at the Britannia Inn for 3 nights : superb location, wonderfully welcoming staff & fabulous food, beer & cider. Extra special mention for Tasha who went above & beyond to take care of us & Kira & Owen too. Also, use of the...pool, steam room etc at the Langdale next door is a great bonus. Thanks all, we'll be back!More
Just back from a wonderful 2 nights here. Great location with a warm welcome. Amazing food and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, especially Katie.
First time in a while visiting the Lakes. Trip was to celebrate a shared wedding anniversary with friends. This is a very good place to stay - fantastic food, very clean rooms and friendly/helpful staff, not forgetting dog-friendly. The only problem was our room size...- a wooden-framed bed with just a few inches at the bottom where we could walk past caused problems. Sadly, our shins, knees and toes are black and blue! If you’re taking a dog with you, just make sure there is room for them and their bed.More
Stayed over on our way back from Scotland. Room was small but adequate altho was not keen on the rainfall shower head. Stayed for dinner which is always nice. The breakfast was very nice cooked to order a shame we were not here long….it was...beautiful. A favourite pubMore
A lovely family meal. We were a large party of 9, we had booked a month or so before, as we know the restaurant gets busy. The food was lovely as always. We have also eaten in the general seating area outside. We have always...found all the staff to be very helpful and extremely polite. You can’t beat the view on a sunny afternoon, always a good choice of ales, we will be back.More
We have visited the Britannia many many times over the years & enjoyed ourselves but this year was a real disappointment. Apparently they only serve scampi in the summer & as the summer had been quiet they didn’t bother putting it on the menu! All...the food we ordered was poor to be honest. Bad chips. Looked like a ‘bought in’ dessert, 10% extra to eat inside. Felt like the staff couldn’t wait for us to leave. House white was £28.50 then £35 was the next bottle. So sad that such a good pub is losing its way. Didn’t tipMore
Visited a few times for drinks whilst on holiday in nearby Skelwith Bridge. It was couple of miles away, about an hour's walk but it became our 'local' for a well-earned ale or two after a walk (or midway as we still had a bit...to go). It's in a lovely setting smack-bang in the centre of Elterwater, a beautiful lakeland village. In fact, the pub overlooks the village green and there's plenty of scope for people-watching (or watching people attempt to park). The quality of the beer was excellent - a nice selection of lagers and local bitters. A bit pricey - Poretti was £6.80 a pint and all the bitters were £5.50 which seemed a bit odd. The pub was always busy though so the prices weren't putting anybody off. Ales and lagers as well-kept as this kept the grumbles about price minimal. A couple of times we had chips with our beers. A generous bowl at less than a fiver was enough to fill us up. On our last night we decided to treat ourselves to a meal and my partner and I went for fish & chips as we'd noticed (and smelled) delicious-looking plates on previous visits. Although it was £17.50 each I have to say it was definitely worth it and we weren't disappointed. The fish (haddock) was moist, succulent and flaky, the batter was as light as anything, not mushy or dense - akin to a tempura. It was served with chips (a smaller portion than the bowl on its own but just the right amount) which were cooked well. It was accompanied by mushy peas and the best home-made tartare sauce I've ever had - creamy yet sharp with capers with herby notes - it complemented the fish perfectly. The service was great - waiting staff were always busy collecting glasses and plates so tables were cleared quickly. The young chap serving us explained that the fish was always fresh, never frozen and that the batter was made with ale. The bar staff were just as busy but always friendly and offered tasters of the ale. A final couple of pints of Bluebird Bitter from the Coniston Brewing Co and it was time for us to walk home, well-fed and happy!More
Booked an evening meal for their "restaurant" and I was told there would be 10% surcharge. On arrival I did wonder why I was paying the 10% extra. There was nothing in the restaurant that went above and beyond the rest of pub. The first...thing I noticed was the how the staff were dressed, shorts and t shirts, trainers. And a female in pink leggings. Its meant to be a 3 star hotel not a greasy spoon. That being said, the staff were lovely and it's not their fault management don't provide a uniform. Now let's get to the food. I ordered chicken pie and chips and when I asked if the chips were home made, I was told no, they would have to hire somebody literally to cut the chips if they were home made. Well for 19 pound for a pie and 17 pound for fish and chips, maybe they should do that. The pie was nuked in the microwave which made the pastry chewy and some of the meat hard. However, it was tasty and was probably a lovely pie when it was fresh out the oven. Just feel like frozen chips and microwave pie is a bit of a rip off for for 19 pound plus surcharge. Been to the lakes on many occasions and had some gorgeous meals in many a country pub there, but I wouldn't come back here. Had I have paid 40 pound for it, I probably wouldn't have written this review, but 80 pound was way too much for this meal. If you're reading this and debating heading to Ambleside for food (like we were) I definitely would.More
We stopped here for a drink after our walk from Skelwith Bridge. Lots of people having lunch. Get little pub to stop off at and in a lovely village. We managed to sit outside with our drinks, there’s plenty of tables indoors and outdoors. Great...little pubMore
Absolutely fabulous place to stop for lunch. It's at the end of the trail from Skelwith Bridge. Amazing location, fantastic staff, absolutely fantastic food. We will certainly come back, and we highly recommend stopping here for the Amazing food.
