Despite having visited West Bay for many years, we have only just discovered Seagulls and a really pleasant discovery it has been. We ate in the restaurant twice on our recent visit and would agree with all the reviews. Good COVID measures were in place, the food was reasonably priced for the quality and service very good, not intrusive and very polite and friendly. Other than possibly the Station Kitchen, which is in my mind, over priced, this is the best place to eat in West Bay.

It’s obvious why this restaurant is number one in West Bay - everything about it is superb! We liked the screens separating the tables and the fact the waitresses were all wearing masks. We had trouble deciding on what to order as it all looked amazing. There were also specials on the board. Our starters of prawn cocktail and filo prawns were delicious and served beautifully. We had the cheese topped hake and fillet of sea bass in a red pepper and tomato sauce for mains which we would highly recommend. We never have puddings but wanted to experience the bread and butter pudding which we’d seen recommended on here. It didn’t disappoint!! Delicious! The staff were all lovely and friendly. All in all, we would 100% recommend Seagulls - we’ve already booked our return visit!!

THE GOOD- Whole grilled plaice was cooked to perfection. My husband had the lamb shank, it looked meaty and he said it was not greasy as some can be. Needs more imagination with the vegetables. We had the usual boiled/steamed carrots and broccoli. The new potatoes just boiled, they need some salt, pepper, butter and parsley. THE BAD- Cutlery was in buckets on the table for every passing customer to breath on. The bottle of water on the tables was warm so had been there for some time for every customer to handle and breath on. It would have much more hygienic and better to bring fresh water bottles to the table from the fridge. I asked politely if I could have new cutlery and was given the ‘ you’re a pain’ look. Over priced for what it was, two Pimms came to nearly £12.

We couldn’t get in anywhere else so we booked a table here. There are COVID restrictions in place, but to be honest, this has an effect on the atmosphere, so not sure it’s really needed. Firstly the service, polite and friendly, if slightly inexperienced and lacking in knowledge of the food they are serving. The service was the high point. Now onto the food, my garlic mushrooms were tepid and lacking in flavour. The prawn parcels looked like they could have been bought from Iceland. My hake main course was very unimaginative, very much housewife cooking and nothing I couldn’t have made myself. All in all, a very bland meal and I wouldn’t consider going back..

i must admit i find internet trolls like yourself very bland also ...you are a new account and so far out of your 4 reviews you give three one star slatings and only reserving your top adulation of 4 stars for a frozen reheated cornish pasty from a national chain ! your culinary prowess is impressive. happy trolling .

After peering through the window looking at the menu we decide to book, the phone booking was taken politely and different times offered so we could fit in. We were not disappointed the service was excellent, polite and fun the food was superbly cooked, crab soup and squid starters followed by Hake and the lamb shank both cooked to perfection a good choice of wines made for a very pleasant evening. We will be going back for sure this time for puddings as well.

We stumbled across Seagulls, with a lucky walk in - booking highly advisable as they were turning people away due to demand and popularity. The service was personal, polite and covid safe! There was a new waitress being throughly trained to a great standard within the hospitality world. The food (4 diners with various likes and dislikes) was exceptional - everyone coming out staying it has been the best meal of the holiday. Thank you for a relaxed, delicious and friendly meal. We would highly recommend this to anyone - just make sure you book your table to avoid disappointment. Thank you to seagulls team!

We found Seagulls just as they were finishing their lunchtime session and we were greeted by a very efficient waitress. We were seated and chose our food quickly, nothing was too much trouble and our food came out very well presented and absolutely delicious, we even shared a dessert which was a fabulous white choclate cheesecake. The staff were so friendly and are an asset to the restaurant. We felt very safe with Covid restrictions and will return again. Highly recommend this little gem.

We come to seagulls once a month during the season, we have missed our monthly meals until now. Fantastic food, fantastic staff and brilliant atmosphere. Although I keep buying the slates fro southwest slates. Seriously the Hake tonight was fantastic and the desert really nice. If you are ever in West bay you must spend an evening out for a meal at seagulls you won't regret it.

Visited for Sunday Lunch for the first time in over ten years. The Seagulls Sunday Lunch legacy lives on! I am a vegetarian and was offered a ratatouille bake as the veggie option. I was blown away by the dish. Perfect size to enjoy alongside the potatoes and veg. The amount of sauce, topping and vegetables was spot on. I was offered either vegan cheese or regular cheese, which was a nice option to have (I had regular). My meat-eating partner enjoyed the chicken in white wine sauce, he said it was very nice especially the sauce. We enjoyed it so much we ensured to book again before we leave to go home

We chose West Bay as our day trip out with our mum. So parking in the car park gave us our first surprise. It was 50p for an hour and £2.00 to park up for the 3 of us all day!! Bargain. Then we wanted a nice fish lunch and we found Seagulls Restaurant near the car park. We walked in and the waitress asked us all to hand sanitizer before showing us to a table. We chose for our starter 3 crab soups with a baguette on the side, which was the most delicious and flavorsome meal. For our main we chose Hake, Sea Bass and Goan curry and Fried squid on the side. The curry was quite mild and tasty. The sea bass was in a tomato sauce and came with vegetables. All our meals were so tasty and we were happy to sit and eat our meals in peace. I would recommend this place and will definitely be back again soon.

So pleased we got a table at Seagulls yesterday evening and wanted to make effort to write review as it was so good. Delicious food which surpassed our expectations. My husband and I both had the Hake, which was perfectly cooked with a lovely sauce, well cooked veg and my other half was chuffed with proper crispy chips! So glad I'd read people's comments on here about desserts too. I don't usually have one, but went for the summer berry pudding (gluten free) and it was one of the best desserts I've had for a long time - gorgeous. Good service and atmosphere, if we were in Bridport again we'd definitely make the trip to this lovely little place.

Don’t be fooled by the unassuming exterior/interior as both the food and service was excellent. We had the mackerel pate for starters which was really good. My husband and I both chose the fish and it was cooked to perfection . The waiters were really attentive, If you fancy a great meal in simple surroundings I would definitely recommended this place.

Yet again for about the sixth time you’ve been brilliant. Your food is excellent and I always enjoy the locally caught fish. I had hake, one of my sons had lamb shank and the other scampi. Really enjoyable evening and I promise we will be back. I would have no reservations in recommending Seagulls, just make sure you ring ahead and book 😃

May 2022 friends
So this is our first meal of 2022 at our favourite restaurant in West Bay, and for the first time we had a starter, I had the Mackerel Pate, my husband had the chicken strips, and our friend the Garlic Mushrooms all of which were superb, we followed up with a steak, the bolignase, and of course my fish dish, unfortunately they didn't have Hake, but supplemented with Cod and it was fantastic. Finally the deserts two fudge cakes, and Chrisies fantastic bread and butter pudding we are all incredibly full and content. As for the staff as always a fantastic warm friendly welcome outstanding service. If you are ever in West Bay you must visit Seagulls, booking is advised. We have booked to the end of season. We have been coming to Seagulls 10 years, and always try and get down to visit when we are here.

We have been away travelling around for over 2 weeks now & this was by far our best meal out. We both had the cheesy topped hake in a white wine, cream, tarragon & dill sauce which was outstanding. A good sized portion of fish, delicious sauce and all the veggies were very fresh and tasty. The veggies were steamed and simply presented but sooo tasty that they didn’t need to be poshed up in any way. The main lady serving and doing front of house was absolutely amazing. She was doing everything from answering the phone, serving, getting drinks from the bar & training 1 new waiter who was on his first night as well as training another young girl who had only been there 3 weeks. She had lost her 2 regular waitresses to other jobs during the pandemic. Despite all of this, she made time to chat to us and was very helpful and friendly. Only 1 complaint, we couldn’t book another table for Monday because they’ll be closed!!!
