We had a lovely afternoon tea here to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. It was pricey but we thought it was worth it for the occasion. Wouldn't have had a cream tea here with all the children because of the prices, but that made the afternoon even more special as we hadn't spent time with our parents alone (without our own families) for 30+ years! Our waiter was good fun and we enjoyed the banter with him and Ross was very polite and fun. The food on the cream tea just kept on coming... Course after course after course... Loved the beef and horse radish rolls, loved the cheeses, loved the parmesan chips, the banana and walnut cake gorgeous. The huge selection of pink cakes was just tipping us to sugar overload, and we really wanted the scones and cream that were coming next, so we asked for a bag to take them home for the children, which was not a problem and the waiter brought us some bags. The tea kept on coming. I can't fault it. We had a lovely time. I can't wait to return!

So, we were shown to our seats inside the train car (which is really well decorated I might add) by a professional host who then proceeded to list out the specials and catch of the day and so on and so forth which was lovely, we ordered our drinks, I had a cocktail and the missus had a glass of wine, all well so far. They came promptly the cocktail (which was a raspberry something or other) was nice, lacked a little bit of flavour but otherwise a relatively nice cocktail. We ordered our starters, I had the chorizo scotch egg, it was really nice, egg was slightly over cooked but I could look past that given how flavoursome the rest of it was. My partner ordered the crab salad and she was very happy with that, I remember her smiling at me and saying how good it was. Then the mains came, I had half a lobster and she had the seafood green curry. Now the curry first, I tried a little myself and honestly it was really nice but I’ve had better out of a jar, that’s not a dig I just feel like it didn’t really know what it was, it had squid, prawns and I want to say hake. Not sure how many of those three are native to Thailand. The lobster was beautifully cooked only let down by the fact that I didn’t have the proper utensils to eat it with, the crackers provided were too small for a lobster claw and I wasn’t given a lobster fork leading to me fighting with the claw and pulling it apart just to eat the meat inside. As previously mentioned however. The lobster was cooked amazingly and is hands down one of the best I have ever eaten. In conclusion the station kitchen annoys me. The food really was very nice and it’s clear that there is a very talented chef in the kitchen. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The bill however came to £107 that’s 2 courses each and 2 drinks each plus service. I’ve eaten better food and drank way more for nearly half the price elsewhere in west bay and it annoys me that you charge that much just because your a little more instagramable than most restaurants. Would have been 5 stars if you charged a reasonable price for what you offered.

£107 for 2 courses including lobster and cocktails and we annoy you? That’s good value anywhere..

Halloween eve spent perfectly because of a celebration. We reserved a table in carriage well in advance (a few weeks), and our reservation didn't let us down.. We had the hake/chorizo/beans and the steak, followed by cheesecake with ice cream and marmalade/whiskey/white chocolate washed down with a rosé English sparkling wine. Yum! All food was prepared to perfection with fantastic quality and attention to detail. It was well waitressed by efficient, polite, friendly staff team that helped us by providing advice on our choices, and allowing us time to spend together without interruption. I thought Station Kitchen isn't the cheapest night out, but if you value service quality, customer appreciation, an imaginative, eclectic, innovative modern menu (wood pigeon, two types of fish, butternut squash as a vegetarian alternative) and a welcoming ambience, it's well worth the visit and delivers value for money in this unique dining experience. Thank you to : Sharon, Claire, Kelly, Charlotte, Steve, Maisie, Lou Lou and of course, The Fat Controller for a memorable eve! In the wake of lockdown announcement a few hours before, we hope to find you safe, well and happy through these uncertain times and hopefully to a more settled period where we can resume our custom.

Sept 2020 friends
We came here after seeing the restaurant on a visit to West Bay & promptly looking it up on-line/tripadvisor. We are a group of 3 friends on a much needed break in Dorset after lockdown. After reading the reviews, studying the menu we decided to take the plunge and were lucky enough to get a booking on our last night (saving the best for last, or so we thought). So after a lovely week in Dorset, we were very much looking forward to our food/evening, and figured considering the prices/reviews we’d be in for a real treat, however sadly it was quite the contrary. We thought the complimentary Parmesan scones were a really lovely touch until we tasted them, no flavour, very dry/flaky. All 3 of of us ordered the scallops as a starter which we did enjoy, but felt was a little steep at £13.00 a head for what we got, but fair is fair, it was decent enough and the presentation was nice too. For the main I ordered the Thai fish curry with Hake, king prawns & squid. There wasn’t an authentic Thai flavour in the dish, it was more like a creamy green soup, lacking flavour with some fish thrown through it, 2 overcooked prawns, soggy bits of hake, the squid however was lovely & tender, but as mentioned none of the green Thai curry flavours were present, such as coconut milk, Thai basil, lemongrass and it had no heat at all, it was so disappointing, specially at £23.00. My two companions both ordered the catch of the day which was Sea Bream at £28.00 a head, the fish was grilled, fresh and served whole, decent enough but came with sides that frankly left me gobsmacked. The barren lettuce leaves hadn’t been dressed and the crushed new potato with peas/garlic is something I would expect to be served at any bog standard pub restaurant, no creativity or imagination at all in my opinion and something we were absolutely expecting at this cost. This is the first time I’ve left a bad review and I do it with a heavy heart but for these prices it just wasn’t good enough by any stretch. Perhaps we should have addressed it at the time but we were so deflated/disappointed, not to mention embarrassed, we just wanted to get out. Sorry Station Kitchen but you are style over substance and should be ashamed at the prices you are charging hard working people - please do better. To end this on a more positive note the staff were really friendly and the service was good, the ambience was quirky and unusual.

We visited on our last night in West Bay and it was definitely one of the best fine dining type restaurants in the area, although a lot more pricey but at the end of the day you get what you pay for! The food was outstanding, as was the atmosphere which was cosy & homely but also had a modern feel. Was very impressed when the chef came out to personally greet all tables and ask how their evening is going and what their thoughts are on the food. Will definitely be going back here in future. If you're a sweet cocktail and/or a rum lover, I'd definitely recommend the Hazelnut Old Fashioned!

We came on New Years Eve and had the Afternoon Tea. The setting in the carriage is beautiful, slightly quirky with plenty of things mounted on the walls to catch your eye. We started with a miniature savory scone and yummy butter. Then came out sandwiches (chicken, ham and turkey and stuffing brioche roll) with miniature sweet treats and chips. The sandwiches are generously filled with quality ingredients on super soft bread. The chips were like roast potatoes in chip form, utterly delicious. Then came the scones and two miniature desserts. Hands down the best Afternoon Tea I’ve ever had. Got chatting to the owner afterwards who was super friendly. Will definitely be back to sample the main menu and Roast Dinner. Thanks for having us.

We hadn't been to the SK for dinner before but, armed with a gift voucher, decided to give it a go for a birthday celebration. Appreciated the quirky decor of the railway carriage together with the table settings, really good ambiance with the attractive lighting. We all chose the sea bass dish as a mains - absolutely delicious. The staff were all lovely. Not wanting a starter from the menu, we did ask about having something to share and were told that scones with savoury butter (very good) were automatically served - perhaps this should have been mentioned when ordering. The fact that the automatic gratuity could be omitted was also not mentioned. This would have been given anyway but we do like to have a choice - personal preference here. Admittedly we felt our evening was rather expensive for us to repeat the experience

Everything about our meal yesterday was perfect. The setting was just gorgeous being inside an old railway carriage. The owners have decorated it beautifully and even though it is a small space, you feel you don’t feel cramped or close to the other diners. It was very hot in the carriage but there were plenty of fans and it was the hottest day of the year so couldn’t be helped. We both chose the same from the menu: scallops followed by steak which were cooked to perfection. The presentation of the food was spot on too! Whilst we were waiting we were also given a small cheese scone with some chutney butter - delicious! The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We just loved the whole ambience of the place and the fact it’s obviously well loved by its owners. One thing to say, it is very popular - luckily we had booked in advance but saw they were turning people away who didn’t have bookings.

After many recommendations and local knowledge of this highly acclaimed restaurant, we finally made it! On Saturday 22nd February. And we certainly weren't disappointed. Such a beautiful WW1 carriage dining experience, so comfortable and lovely atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meal, with both choosing Buffalo Mozzarella Arancini to start, followed by one of the delicious Catch of the Day - I chose Sea Bass fillets on Crushed Potatoes with Watercress, Garlic and Blanched Almonds, and my hubby chose a Fillet Steak with an Onion Crumb and Port Jus. Cooked to perfection, or certainly exactly how he likes it! The Sea Bass was fresh, delicious and a plentiful meal with the super vegetables. We shared a delicious Panna Cotta and Rhubarb Compote dessert with two spoons, as I had also enjoyed two perfectly made Cocktails, and there were even surprises with complimentary Toffee Vodka shots at the end and some gorgeous Turkish Delight to accompany the bill. Will be back at any opportunity and certainly would recommend. It's a very special experience. The carriage looked so pretty and twinkling in the evening, and the wind outside caused a very authentic gentle sway to the carriage, which was beautifully furnished in highly characterful and interesting decor. The menu was delicious and it was a perfect time. Many thanks to Ross, Claire and the wonderful ladies serving and looking after us, who were amazing on the night and very lovely indeed. A memorable time and gem of a place. So lucky to have this locally.

We came to The Station Kitchen for Valentines evening. We had a lovely, friendly welcome from Ross and his staff. The train carriage was feeling very ambient; it was decorated with cute balloon hearts and table confetti which looked so cosy and romantic. There was a Valentines version of Connect 4 on the table which delighted my husband in particular. This was a very thoughtful touch which we enjoyed. All of the food was spectacular, beautifully cooked, packed with flavour, tasty and fresh. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to check we were happy with everything and nothing was too much trouble. We were given some lovely extra surprises including warm cheese heart scones prior to our starter which were delicious and some toffee vodka shots. When we left we were also given a valentines goodie bag, it made us both feel very looked after and really made the evening extra special. As for the food, we literally could not fault it. It was fresh, tasty, bursting with flavour, presented beautifully and the portion sizes were just right. My husband said it was the best chocolate brownie he has ever had and he is a chocolate brownie diehard addict! We cannot wait to visit The Station Kitchen again. If you want to go somewhere where you are guaranteed incredible food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere with those special touches then this is definitely the place for you! An absolute treasure. Thank you to all at The Station Kitchen.

We dined here early Saturday, we booked online as this place books up fast and we’ve discovered why. The staff are warm, polite and give just the right level of service so you feel welcome and attended to without them being overbearing. The FOOD IS TOP NOTCH! We could have chosen several options, so many dishes sounded good and we weren’t disappointed. Fresh flavours, novel twists and overall a refreshingly exciting dining experience. Superb! Highly recommend. If you’re down this way and love a good foodie experience, book ahead and enjoy the ride!!!

This restaurant is an absolute MUST to visit. I have had a lot of fillet steaks in my time but this is hands down THE BEST fillet steak of my life 😍 The atmosphere is magical and Ross and Claire are very personable and made sure we was having a great time. I could not fault this place - I have fallen in love. We live about a 4 hour car ride away but if I lived near I would eat here everyday ! Thank you so much for your hospitality, we will see you again very soon! Xx

As a girls afternoon out on boxing day, my mother, my daughter and I booked afternoon tea at The Station. The booking process via email was simple, having 1 gluten free and 1 pescitarian eater was not a problem. The carriage is laid out beautifully and the cocktails to kick off the day certainly hit the spot! We had so many delicious dishes brought to our table we ended up bringing some home! The gluten free options are by far the best we have ever tasted, from delicious sandwiches to handcrafted cakes, the first gluten free outing we have had were you are not made to feel a burden! The service was fantastic, as soon as our table started running low another tier of mouth watering cakes or sandwiches arrived. I am already looking forward to our next dining experience here.

We booked the Station Kitchen as we had seen it on our previous visits to West Bay but never got around to eating there and we certainly weren’t disappointed! We are a family of 4 with children aged 10 and 7, both of whom enjoy their food and were delighted to see steak frites on the kids menu and not just the bog standard nuggets or burger. We were seated in the station house which is gloriously decked out in vintage style decor, due to social distancing we were the only guests dining in this area and so felt very privileged! The food was absolutely delicious, we went for local fish and a steak served with my absolute favourite of truffle Parmesan chips which were absolutely to die for. Service was friendly and attentive but not obtrusive, very family friendly (we have dined at similar venues that are not so welcoming of children) and the kids were made to feel very welcome valued. There are few things I am ‘fussy’ about but having been a trained cocktail bartender in my younger years I am very discerning about my cocktails and I could not find fault with Either the beautifully mixed Espresso Martini nor the delicious hazelnut old fashioned which rounded off our meal perfectly. West Bay is already our favourite Dorset town and I can’t recommend the Station Kitchen enough, wonderful food in a quirky yet luxurious setting with great service, Thank you for a lovely evening.

Did our booking by a message - very swift response. Our group of four had table in the railway carriage, which delighted the train-lover amongst us. They even phoned to say we could arrive earlier than agreed if we liked. Loved the warm tasters which came not long after we had ordered our food. Every table was occupied on a chilly evening but it was lovely and warm inside and the ambience of the space very welcoming. The sirloin steak was wonderful; burger with duck egg huge; sea bream delicious, as was the Thai curry (although the rice was not authentic sticky rice). Obviously with such tasty food we couldn't resist a pud (well, most of us) and those did not disappoint. Our meal for 4 with a bottle of Merlot was about £157 including service charge, which we thought excellent. The staff all very friendly and had a calm and organised approach to Covid rules (even the 10pm closing time). Would definitely recommend this restaurant. Thank you
