Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was a bit different, a bit expensive but very tasty. One of the Azorean products of high esteem is of course the pineapple and this chef is onto it in a big way. To start we ordered the soup, with it must be said...a little trepidation. The waitress, ultra keen to talk to us in English despite having three native Portuguese speakers in the group, explained it was tomato and pineapple soup. Not a great fan of tomato soup anyway, as it reminds me of a childhood feeding out of Campbell's tins, but this was the real deal. Not as I thought, a red soup with a ring of charred, fried pineapple floating in it like a french onion soup with its little island of toast and cheese. No, this was emulsified and brought together by a daring chef who knows what he wants and is getting it. Wonderful flavour and an unexpected hit. The pineapple tour continued with the fish course. Fried trigger fish fillets with sweet potatoes and a wonderful mixed salad, aided by a pouring dish of pineapple sauce. Guess what? It worked again!! Very good indeed. The fish came with a choice of salted potatoes, sweet potatoes, mushroom rice or, you guessed it, pineapple rice! Brilliant. Not having pineapple for dessert though, no thanks!! Completely pineappled-out, we were, by this stage, but in the nicest possible way. With coffee and home made ice cream, the damage was near to 120 euros for 4. Bit steep but excellent food and a great decor, nice efficient multi-lingual (!!) service. Excellent and recommended, especially for fans of... pineapple. Don't be coy, go for it.More

We have been looking for a place that has more variety. We are vegetarian and vegetables are important! This place has done amazing things with the lack of options available on the island. When cucumbers are available, they pickle them! Carrots, make s tasty carrot...sauce. Creative, flavorful and thoughtful on how they work with what is available.More

Absolutely phenomenal food. When we arrived in Lajes we asked the locals what they recommended and they all said this place. Make reservations to ensure you get a table, trust me it’s worth it!

The food here is exquisite, I definitely want to come back someday! Simply the best restaurant on the island. Ask for the dessert that they put on fire at the table, it's amazing! Make sure to make a reservation and bring cash.

The casa do rei is as good as the name, because the food there is really tasty. The most interesting of this restaurant is that all you eat there is organic, directly from the their farm to the plate. The best experience I had dinning...at Flores island.More

We had not one but two amazing dinners in Casa do Rei. A night of fish and a night of carne. Both amazing made by the chef in his own style. Not a copy of a dish you could everywhere but his variant of the...meal. The service is great too, the host easily switches between four languages just to make it more easy for you. And if you have a hard time choosing for what to eat that night: go for the schnitzel (yes I know, it is not an azorian dish but a German one), it will be the best you ever had! Ps. Save room for desert cause you don’t want to leave without having one at Casa do Rei!More

First evening on Flores. We almost found no place for dinner. Finally we found this place. Food was good, service nice. Only reason for 4 stars is the very limited amount of food for hungry hikers ;)

We come to Flores once every year, and know our way around pretty well. However, we had never tried Casa do Rei, and it was a pleasant surprise. The food is simple yet hearty and well cooked. The ‘Caldeirão de Vitela’ is similar to beef...stroganoff, with tender beef and a delicious sauce! We only wished the desserts had been a little more varied, but we were happy overall and will definitely return.More

We had high hopes going into this reservation, and it was a bit hit and miss. The cheese board starter was average, however the wine was nice. I had the pork with honey and nuts and it was yummy. My girlfriend had a vegetarian meal...- pumpkin and lentils and it was a bit bland. The crepe suzette was delicious.More

The almond crusted fish was excellent and would stand alone, but the t.... sauce was a lovely addition. The fish came with a salad and a starter bread with three types of interesting spreads.

We found this restaurant by luck on the road. It was not full, the service was great and super friendly. We could take our time. And the food... It was divinal. We really advice the ray-salad oder the fish soup as starters. As we went...a second time (we reserved it right after finishing the dinner the first time) we could try one day fish (sort fresh) we took the one with almonds and the second day we tried meet. Goat and sheep it was super tasty. The deserts are also great. Most of the ingredients ate self produced or fresh from the island. When we come back to flores we will come back here.More
