Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An amazing restaurant with exquisite food! Every dish we had was phenomenal. We had anchovies with an amazing presentation, artichokes, octopus, and Iberian pork and a few others. Every single dish was delicious. The wait staff was wonderful and very attentive and the chef even came out to deliver us some great asparagus spears on the house. From the first dish through dessert everything was spot on. Highly recommend!

Was brought to Polear as part of a cycling group. 15 for lunch, and they did an amazing job taking care of us with great food and wines. The pairings were perfect for our tuna carpaccio, anchovie salad, chicken salad, artichoke with jamon, pasta, and tuna steak. The owner is a renowned sommelier and has a great palate too. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. If you are near Ronda, take the time to visit Polear.

After an three year interval due to COVID we are back in Andalusia. For us this means that we have to visit Juan Jesus and Rafael at Polear. Next to these lovely guys we come of course for the great food. Is NOT the touristic stuff you can get everywhere in this great area NOR the sometimes too basic ‘tapas’ variations. At Polear it is a original, high quality and tasteful experience. Having a chef that was the best sommelier of Andalusia means of course that you don’t have to worry about the wine either. We gladly drive down the 25 minutes from our hotel in Ronda as is all worth it. We will be back of course. Hasta pronto amigos.

There are these places that you want to return time after time, El Polear is one of them. Over the more than 10 years that we have been visiting Andalusia we came across Tourist Traps, dark places, standard food and staff that wasn’t very interested. NOT at Polear! The food is always of high quality, the owners are wonderful people and the wine is never disappointing (chef Juan Jesus was a few times best sommelier of the province). Since the street has been close for motorized traffic the terrace has become an even more pleasant area. Also something that other restaurants in Alcala hardly offer. Although TripAdvisor ‘only’ ranks El Polear for us they are by far the best place in Town and worth to make a detour for. Muchas Gracias Hombres!

Food was excellent - incredible attention to flavor and detail, but not fussy. Seasonal bounty prepared expertly. Terrific wines. Fantastic service.

We use to live here for many years and one of thing we miss the most of the area is El Polear. Without any doubt the place around here, with original food, not the prefab stuff you get in too many ‘restaurants’ this in combination with the great wine from Juan Jesus who was 2 times the best sommelier of the province. His brother Rafael serves you with eye for detail and kindness. Add the very reasonable price and there is no reason to go anywhere else when in the greater Ronda region. Hasta Pronto!

We have been there on the recommendation of our host. Exquisite dishes. Really nice staff. At first they asked us what we wanted to drink and then they explained the menu of the day. While we waited, they brought us a small appetizer of cherry tomatoes with an alice on top and some pickles. Then we ordered 3 glasses of wine, water, 2 starters and 2 first courses. All very good. Really value for money. We hope to come back.

We are a family of four and had a great dinner at Polear. The person serving (could have been the owner) us was very friendly and spoke good enough English. We got a couple of pre-appetizers on the house, which tasted wonderful. The beef carpaccio and the octopus were fantastic starters. For main we liked the tuna, salmon and the entrecôte the best. The food was very genuine and cooked with love.

Don’t just walk by, you will have missed a chance to experience great, local Spanish flavours. With a menu that changes daily, this gem of a place surprised us every time we went, encouraging us to try foods and flavours rarely experienced. Your host is generous with his explanations in English and Spanish and will always start the conversation with ‘are you hungry?’ Before launching into the local selections. Make an effort, go here, support great local Spanish cuisine.

We stopped at Cafe Bar Polear and enjoyed a fabulous lunch of a delicious tomato soup followed by a arugula salad with yogurt and chicken and then mushroom risotto followed by rare tuna all paired with a thoughtful selection of local wines. The staff were incredibly kind and gracious and administered to one of our group who entered the bar covered in blood from a bike accident. The fantastic food, wine and kindness restored our spirits and wounds. Gracias

Looks can be deceiving as from the outside this looks like a normal cafe but the food and the service is incredible. There is no menu as it changes everyday. We ate here twice for dinner and the food was exceptional on both occasions and presented in a high end restaurant style. Huge portions so we ended up getting two starters and one main for both of us but incredible food served by the friendliest of staff. Hidden gem

Recommended by our hosts from El-Guarda, we went to this wonderful place. When we heard the menu we did not feel impressed by the options but the way it was made was the most delicious and surprising and above all honest and genuine we have had in a long time. Keep cooking like that. A reason to come back!
