fish and chips were OK, a bit greasy but good. The ice cream was awful. Service is friendly and prices are reasonable.

While visiting Golden Bay area on our way from Pupu Springs to Wainui Falls we stopped for lunch at The Penguin Cafe. It was 3 of us. We were seated outside. It was not very busy. Service was very nice, it didn’t take long time to order and get our food. We ordered Green Lip mussels chowder, Lamb salad and... More

I feel a bit guilty writing this poor review because the staff were lovely and welcoming but there was just something a little odd with the food! My nachos had hardly any cheese 0 or even nachos really but absolutely mountains of sweet chilli sauce which wasn't really to my taste. Normally I could have just scraped it off but... More

Waited a long time for Seafood Pizza to arrive, however it was nice when it did show up - had ham on it ??? The waitress very uninterested and needs to sort her wardrobe out - T-Shirt with many holes in it - so unprofessional - we were staying in the campground for a few days and did not eat... More

Nice food and plenty of it. The chips were: great very crisp. The vegetarian option was good but could have done with a bit more subtle flavouring. Nice admosphere and the service was personable.

Worst cafe experience ever. Ordered 2 flat whites one trim and one in a tulip cup. Got 2 full creams, they were cold and it took over 30 minutes after having ask where they were. Then had to ask for the cake! Would not recommend this place to anyone.

We didn't feel very welcome when we arrived, almost like we were interrupting their conversation. We sat outside for 10 minutes then the waitress plonked the specials board beside us and walked away without saying anything. We she came back I asked her if we could possibly have some water on the table, she went away and got it. Took... More

Called in for drinks in late afternoon, and purchased pizza to take away. We had rented a property nearby and didn't know the area. Our waitress went out of her way to get us a local map, and then proceeded to highlight the area's attractions. Her advice was excellent....and so were the pizzas. We called again the next day for... Terrible! The worst dining experience of our South Island trip. The staff were welcoming. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The food, however, was very disappointing. The fish of the day was gurnard. One small overcooked fillet, bulked up with a lot of potato. The snapper and chips was unbelievably bad - one small portion of dry, tasteless and very... More
