With a group of friends on holiday we wanted to go out for lunch. The Penguin was right across the road so we checked it out. The wedges were yummy, prawn popcorn was even better; but the fisherman's basket could be improved if it didn't have as many chips, but more seafood.

We arrived late afternoon and had to repeat our order for coffee and beer 3 times to a very unhelpful young lady. As we waited for our order we watched as the same young woman was sour and unhelpful with everyone she served. We had gone to look at the menu with a view to returning later for a meal... More

Nice food but watch the chowder . Had a bad case of the trots for 2 days after the chowder. Nice outlook but staff are a little rude

Excellent food, service and a bouncy castle to amuse the kids. We stopped here to refresh on our way to Totaranui. Great coffee, pizzas and very accommodating for GF children.

We had dinner here on Christmas Eve as it was one of the few places open around here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our dinner and the sticky date pudding was delicious.

We stopped here for lunch after a recommendation from a friend. However, the lunch menu was pretty small if you didn't include the pizzas and burger menu, which were more than $20, a bit much for 1 persons lunch! No cabinet food either, the cheapest option $10.90 BLT sandwich. The snapper fish and chips was pretty greasy and didn't really... More

We popped in for a coffee when we were driving past and you can sit out on the deck in the morning sunshine. We didn't try the food but the coffee was certainly ok.

Staff were friendly and helpful but service on two occassions left something to be desired, possbily due to limited staff over the Xmas holiday period. Quality of food which was great compensated for service!

I've been pretty lazy with my reviews but last night after a satisfying dinner, my kid insisted I do one. We were supposed to have dinner at plan-B but they had private function so Penguin Cafe became our plan B. With a kid, we always dine early so even on Saturday night we didn't have problem getting a table. Service... More
