My wife booked Mama Lina's after having an amazing experience in June. It is safe to say this experience was the polar opposite. The staff were polite and friendly, but not remotely attentive, we had to wait for long periods to get attention for drinks,...no one came to ask if our food was ok, which it was not, or asked if we needed anything, which we did. The service was extremely slow, we waited 40 minutes for starters. The food was decent, but nowhere near worth the price. I had the lamb for £19. I counted 5 pieces of small cut lamb with 2 potatoes, which were cut in half to look like 4, with 5 green beans and a very small handful of veg. I honestly thought I had more veg coming out. There were similar issues with the starters, which were £9. Due to the above, we opted against dessert as we didn't want to wait an excessive amount of time for an extremely small portion. I left hungry and disappointed for what wasn't a cheap meal. After choosing to go here for my Birthday, I wouldn't be in a rush to go back anytime soon.More

Food was good service was abysmal. Greeted then had our table pointed out to us towards the back of the restaurant we had to guess we had arrived at the correct table. No smile, throughout our meal, managed to get attention for the bill. It...was brought to the table, no eye contact at all intact she had her back to us as she placed it in the table and walked away. Food was good overall however seeing the promoted photos of the brochetta was nothing like we were served. Great lasagne, carbonara and spaghetti bolognaise I cant remember the dish I tried last time but it had prawns in it and they didn't taste the freshest and had a bit of a dodgy stomach afterwards never have an issue with seafood normally but don't...know if that was a definite cause and it hasn't put me off returning as its lovely here but will avoid the seafood dishes in future.More

Returned to our favourite Italian with the family and had another great meal. Staff friendly and efficient and although there was a wait for the food this time due to it being a Saturday and full on both floors, it was lovely when it came....A perfect gem in our doorstep. We will be back for our anniversary meal in September.More

Visited this Italian restaurant for my birthday meal after hearing about the quality of the food and nominations for The Italian Restaurant Awards. We arrived early doors at 5pm meaning the restaurant was quiet. We were greeted by their head waitress who gave the very...best of service, nothing was too much trouble. Other waitresses could learn a lot from her approach as if she wasn't in the area we were seated it was impossible to get others attention. Many seemed to be hanging around the bar area chatting and giggling. Meaning I would have to leave the table and interrupt them at the bar. Food was lovely, really lovely. Portion sizes were great meaning we sadly couldn't finish all of the mains, but this was no reflection on the quality of the food. I so wanted to leave a higher star review and spend a little more time with coffees and drinks at Mamma Lina's however here lies my problem ........... During our visit I needed to use the toilet. I was really disgusted with the level of hygiene within. The gents had 2 cubicles, one was missing an entire toilet seat and the other had a discoloured, damaged seat, rusty old bins, broken locks, and dirt on the tiles. It made no sense to me as the rest of the restaurant is beautiful and very clean. It was like walking into a working man’s club toilet. It is very clear that you simply did not check your toilets or if you had someone thought this is acceptable and for the calibre of such a restaurant it really is not!! Please see pictures. NB - I was unable to take pictures of the other toilet as a poor chap was using the other cubicle with his small daughter. All I could hear was "it's ok darling, daddy will hold you up as they don't have any seats". Sadly, while having to use the only available toilet the seat cut my leg quite badly. Blood had seeped through my shorts meaning we had to leave early and get first aid. I mentioned this to the waitress who apologised and said she would make management aware. As I waited in their reception area, no one from management came. I left the restaurant and asked my wife to settle up as I didn't want to be dripping blood on their floor. I was informed by my wife that as a good will gesture they had removed the drinks from our bill! I'm sorry Mamma Lina's but removing the cost of 1 bottle of Non-Alcohol Beer, a Diet Coke and a Cider didn't even cover the cost of replacing my shorts, let alone spoiling the entire birthday meal. I've been very luck to have visited many restaurants across the globe and have a very good understanding of good service. You really need to address the points I've raised in this review if you want to further build your reputation as a leading Italian Restaurant in the South Wales area. Lovely family Italian restaurant. Food delicious. Staff very friendly and efficient. Children friendly always make you feel welcome. Love coming here and so glad it’s close by. Can’t wait to come back early June to celebrate husbands birthday with the family

Good atmosphere but terrible pizza’s. Cheese falls off the pizza due to the grease and the garlic bread was just half a panini with garlic oilMore

Nothing wrong, nothing brilliant probably sums up our experience. Staff friendly and food reasonable. Our biggest issue was the noise level, due to it being a Friday evening it was full but was not conducive to a pleasant experience, I understand restaurant cannot do much...about it but with the close proximity of the tables did not help. I would return but not on a Friday or SaturdayMore

Food here is always fantastic, the owners are incredibly friendly and you are guaranteed a great time. However the only reason I can’t give a five star review is several of the waiting staff had dreadful attitude problems- we had eye rolling and sighing, rudeness...and it felt like if we ordered any drinks or desserts it was an inconvenience to them.More

Where do I start… you go out for a valentines meal, your greated with a smile at the entrance then it’s all downhill after that. I have visited many restaurants in my time even those in London markets where time is precious but Mamma Lina’s...is on another level. The service is so fast that they may as well be spoon feeding you. We had been sat with drinks and eaten our ‘romantic’ meal within 45 minutes and not once did anyone ask how our meal was. Perfect for a lunch service operation but not for a nice evening meal with your partner. For those bigger eaters out there avoid the lasagne, the portion is tiny and is served with what would appear to be a third to a half of the smallest ciabatta I’ve ever seen. I chose not to have desert and left hungry after spending in excess of £50. I won’t be returning not even for a lunch.More
