Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Food is just spectacular ! The flavour profile of the tasting menu is something else. It complements , yet is progressive through out the menu. Staff were professional yet warm and approachable, which in this environment staff can be often lack a little personality ....Top marks from all of us celebrating my husband 40th! Keep up the good workMore

Today we went to The Bull's Head at Holymoorside for Sunday lunch. This is our third visit, the previous 2 visits we stayed over in their boutique bedrooms and enjoyed the Taster Menu with wine flight. The welcome, service and, incredible food are outstanding. The...rooms are beautiful too. Back to Sunday Lunch today, just wow, best Sunday lunch we had had. You must give it a try. Thanks once again to Mark and his incredible team xMore

We recently stayed visited The Bulls Head seeing it on GBM a few year prior to our visit. Everything was perfect from the checkin with the home made warm brownies to the beautiful 5* standard bedroom with the deepest freestanding copper bath tub. We opted...for the tasting menu & wine flight which was such a special experience. The staff are so knowledgeable about the local produce to the car dully marched wines. We especially loved that Mark came out and I torched the curses and also finished off over the cram at the table. Breakfast was a delight with a great choice we both pres for the eggs Benedict which was one of the best Iv ever had! Can’t wait to visit aganMore

We give the whole experience a 10! It was relaxed atmosphere, the staff were good and the whole evening felt very personal. The food was fantastic, I tried everything, and I’m so pleased I did! The wine flight was great and now we’ve had to...buy a bottle of Pedro Xinanez sherry! Loved meeting Mark, the dishes he produced exceeded all our expectations and he was super friendly and we appreciated the time he spent with us. We are really pleased we did it 😊More

Having booked a last minute break here, we thought it would be a standard type pub b&b but boy were we wrong. Upon arrival we entered a clean welcoming pub with friendly staff and great ambiance. The rooms ( of which there were only 3)...were extremely well decorated and very clean the shower was a rainfall shower with great water pressure and plenty of hot water. I must say however the coup de grace was the dinner. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu and one of us had the wine flight. From the canapés right through to the petit fours the food was excellent, well plated, the correct temperature and most of all full of flavour. The squab course and also the monkfish were particularly good. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and explained all of the dishes really well, the chef even used liquid nitrogen in the dining room to create and plate one dessert WOW. The wine flight was well curated and exceptional value. I would highly recommend The Bulls Head and would definitely be a regular if I didn’t live so far away. Thanks to Mark and the whole team for an excellent visit. I am sure your business will flourish if you keep doing what you are.More

Visited as a family party of 6 at lunchtime and all had the tasting menu. This is fine dining, so everything is exquisite, with thought and attention to detail, from the canapés to the pudding. The menu will, no doubt, have changed by the time...you read this, but the artichoke was impressive, the sauce under the fish v v lovely and the celeriac mash accompanying the chicken was smooth and light as a mousse. Which reminds me of the ham and eggs dish - fun and delicious. (Everything was delicious, but I felt obliged to try to say more.) The wine list looked good, but I didn't really pay it much attention as we weren't drinking much. Service was perfect, and friendly. Incredible value for money too We will go again.More

Mark and his team really have a passion for food. It isn’t cheap pub food despite looking like a pub from the outside, but flavoursome and beautifully presented. Prepared with fresh local ingredients where possible we have eaten here across different seasons and not been...disappointed. If you want slick fast food this isn’t for you.More

Even my grandson, who is notnthe most adventurous foodie, enjoyed the experience. This was...all topped off with astay in a very comfortable room and excellent breakfast. Highly recommended.More

The pub is shut on Mondays and Tuesdays and opens at 5pm on Wednesday. There are 3 rooms for occupancy. We had booked a room and were informed that check-in was 3pm. When we arrived just before 3pm on a Wednesday, the pub was in...darkness and all the doors were locked. We had not been provided with any check-in access details. The front doorbell did not appear to work and we wandered around the building looking for any sign of life. Eventually we found the back door to the kitchen slightly ajar, which we gingerly opened and located human life. We were allowed into the building by the chef/owner Mark Aisthorpe and asked if we'd like a drink (which we were later charged for!) as the keys to our room were bent and a replacement set was being produced. Despite a log fire in the bar area, the building felt cold as if it hadn't been heated for a couple of days. We duly had a drink and waited and waited until our keys finally turned up. To access the rooms which are upstairs, you have to leave the main pub and go out and re-enter the accommodation via a different external door. The room was as per the photographs, functional and clean. We were informed that breakfast was at 9.30am!! We ate dinner from the bar menu which stops at 6.30pm. After that the choices are either one of two tasting menus which are either £35 pp or £89 pp or an a la carte menu which is £48 for two courses. We came down the following morning just before 9.30 and the door to the pub was locked so we stood shivering in the cold waiting for the lady who takes the breakfast orders to turn up - apparently the traffic was busy! The breakfast area was cold as the heat was not turned on. She turned it on when she arrived. The business man who we chatted to in the bar the previous evening was told his only choice for breakfast earlier than 9.30 was cereal which would be left upstairs on the landing for him. We paid £385 for the two nights accommodation and felt like a fee paying inconvenience rather than valued residents. We would not return.More

Stayed for a night with my friend. Room amazing. Food amazing apart from my friend ordered beef which was overcooked, very chewy and had no flavour, brought this to the attention of the waiter, went into kitchen came back to table chef didn’t agree apparently...it was the way my friend had asked for it to be cooked, after a lot of disagreement she was finally given a new piece of beef which as soon as it came looked totally different to the first piece, I said it looked like sirloin it was tastier and more tender, the waiter confirmed this!! We asked the waiter what time checkout and breakfast was, the reply being checkout is 11am breakfast is served between 9.30 & 11!!! Sunday morning we came downstairs 10.30 to be told breakfast finished at 9.30, explained we had a long drive, told we could have toast, we explained this is not acceptable we had paid for breakfast and expected breakfast! She disappeared into kitchen came back and said we’d have to wait until manager came in at 12pm! I asked if the chef in the kitchen was the owner of the property? Yes, so tell him to come out and we’ll speak to him, no he’s busy!! I could not believe the owner of a property would let his staff take responsibility for sorting conflict and not come out and sort it!!! I went to kitchen door and asked which was the owner he still wasn’t forthcoming, eventually when he had no choice he came out!! After a heated discussion he did agree to prepare a snack!! But for a Bed & Breakfast and restaurant of this quality you should not have the hassle we had and the owner should face up to his responsibilities!!!More

Excellent food from start to finish. We ate from the a la carte menu and enjoyed a nice couple of wines. The venison and the chocolate dessert were delicious and the canapés different and tasty. It was nice to chat to chef/owner Mark, the staff...were all very good and we enjoyed the setting. This must surely be on its way to a Michelin star - book now!More
