Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Myself and my family visited The Rising Sun today and we weren’t disappointed. We were greeted by a member of staff straight away and was seated in an area of the restaurant that was very quiet. Our food and drinks arrived relatively quickly on what was a very busy evening. Everyone’s starters and mains came hot and tasting to perfection. Myself and my 6 family members couldn’t stop saying how wonderful everything tasted, even the salad! All staff were friendly and approachable, they made sure everything was good by checking in occasionally but were never intrusive. The food was reasonably priced and worked out to be even cheaper with the 50% off ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme. We will definitely be back in the future.

We have been visiting this pub for years and it’s always been great for a good selection of beers, great food served hot together with prompt and friendly service and always at a fair price. Our recent visit was very similar although looks like the staff have changed so wonder if the pub has changed hands?! This time was all good except most of the food service was handled by youngsters who simply missed some of the basics like bringing out another set of cutlery after the first set has been used for a starter, forgetting gravy for a roast etc. These things happened to us and the tables around us but didn’t detract from the quality of the meal and will no doubt come with experience or training over time, so still a recommended venue

We were sorting out some family business in Potton and had to stay overnight. We wanted to go for a meal but neither of us knew anything about pubs in Potton. We chose the Rising Sun and were very glad that we did. It can be a bit daunting going into a village pub for the first time but not here. We were greeted by the man behind the bar who turned out to be the Chef. He informed us that food started at 6pm, it was quarter to so we got drinks, set up a tab and sat down. The pub had a lot of tables but spread nicely. It was clean and the decor suited the building. The Chef gave us menu's, there was quite a lot of choice at reasonable prices. Just after 6 a very polite and presentable waitress came and took our order. When the food arrived it was well presented, plentiful and extremely tasty. Even at that early hour a lot of people came into the pub, mainly for meals. I was particularly impressed with the toilets, clean and no discernible smell. Altogether I think we made an excellent choice with The Rising Sun and would not hesitate to make a return visit.

We've eaten here on many occasions and the food is generally pretty good, however this Sunday the food was a real let down. I had a lamb roast and the meat was really fatty, the roast potatoes were leathery and my meal was served lukewarm - shame really. I shall visit again as every one has an off day.

Popped in for a family lunch with brother in law who had eaten here many time previously so gave good recommendations on what to eat. Friendly staff, good range of beers and some good options on the menu but we opted for Beef lasagne, home made Chicken curry and Gammon and chips between us based on recommendations. Advised after a few minutes the Lasagne was still in the oven were we prepared to wait or change option but as it was only 20 minutes wait we stuck to our choices. Good decision as all 3 dishes were well presented and delicious and good value for money. Well worth a visit to the Rising Sun if ever in the Potton area.

This was our first visit to The Rising Sun for lunch and were so impressed with both the service, menu choice and quality of food. I had the homemade steak and mushroom pie and it was one of the best pies I have ever had. Very reasonably priced too. Will definitely be visiting again.

Had Sunday roast. Both the lamb and beef which we all had was very rare and fatty. One of my friends had asked for the beef to be well done. Was told that's how it comes! Potatoes and veg poor quality. We were all very disappointed and will not be returning.

Just got back from the rising sun pub. This is a very special place if you’re looking for real family run pub. The selection of drinks and food our exceptional. All the staff work really hard and make you feel so welcome. Our group had the set Christmas menu. I have to say probably the best food of this type ie Christmas usual I’ve ever had eating out. Hats off to the chef’s it was brilliant. Can’t wait to go back.

Went here for a Sunday Lunch. 6 Adults and 6 Children. The staff were brilliant (despite the children wanting menu alternatives - which was no trouble at all plus one of our party knocking a glass of cola over). The food delicious and excellent value for money. The pub was busy, which was no surprise as a lovely ambience for a family lunch. All in all, a lovely family lunch enjoyed by us all.

Lived local for years and have never visited and this was a first. We arrived on a particularly busy evening with lots of reserved tables. The pub was filled in half hour, which they were not expecting the nice lady behind the bar suggested. Even so, the staff were pleasant, service was great and the food exceeded my expectations. I was surprised to see the pub had no chain attached. Good traditional English pub for the locals. I will definitely visit again.

Had yet another lovely meal at the Rising Sun. good food and friendly staff. We’re always made very welcome. The pub has put in good measures during the current COVID pandemic - for instance one way system, table service and plenty of hand sanitiser. Highly recommended
