Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So here's a great activity. We journeyed to Old Winchester Hill along Hayden Lane to walk our dog. On the way back we were thirsty and hungry, so, since the George and Falcon was opposite the junction for the lane, we drove in. It was...a mid week afternoon so very quiet there, but dog friendly so perfect. Plenty of choice for seating, be it arm chairs, regular tables, veranda with garden tables or benches out by the river. The owners were lovely and hospitality light hearted and welcoming. We sat down to gorgeous food. What a pleasant surprise this place was. Lovely walk, lovely meal, great day.More

Called in unplanned and had the best fish and chips ever. Fish was freshly cooked sea bass with a thin batter and it was so tasty. Although no sides on menu they happily did us some garlic mushrooms and onion rings cooked freshly and large...portions. Would not hesitate to go back and try other items on the menu. Very freindly and welcomingMore

Very disappointing visit to the George & Falcon for a Sunday roast. First visit for a few years and really looking to it but on arrival the virtually empty car park might have been a clue of what was to come. In fairness we received...a friendly and warm welcome but it went downhill from that point forward. The pub was completely empty other than one other couple. We were invited to sit anywhere we wanted to, although we had booked so would have expected a table set up in readiness. We had a roast - one beef and one lamb. The meals were delivered by two young waiters who thought the lamb was pork which was a tad amusing! We had to ask for sauces, not offered to us. We also had to then request cutlery, and after two attempts I eventually was given a child’s fork. The only choice of white wine was Pinot as they were awaiting a delivery the following day. To say the lamb was mainly fat and gristle is a fair description - see photos. The beef was dry and tough. We pointed out the amount of fat on the lamb to the waitress and her only response was to tell us that as a rule she never has lamb at home as it’s always fatty! We asked her to raise with the chef as, frankly, we were amazed that he’d sent it out with so much fat. Heard nothing back and no apology. Will not return in a rush.More

We thought we would give the place a try again as we haven't been since it has been taken over by new staff. We have always liked the actual pub. It's very spacious and the garden is lovely next to the river and it's dog...friendly (bonus) We visited on a Thursday evening. It was quiet. The man behind the bar was friendly. The menu was very limited. We decided on a burger and scampi. It came out quickly. The portions were a fare size. The burger wasn't that great. A thin patty with a bit of bacon. No salad leaf or slice of tomato. Just meat in a bun. The peas were dreadful! Would have been good to use in a pea shooter to cause some damage though. The salad was fresh which was nice and the scampi was fine. Just a bit average but edible.More

We're sorry the meal you had with us wasn't up to your expectations. We stopped including salad with our burgers as we found most people don't want it, however it should have been offered.

Popped in here by chance at lunchtime and we were glad we did. Nice enough pub area. Sun terrace with good seating. Sunny Beer garden overlooking river. Dog friendly. We received a warm welcome. The menu looked great but we only wanted a sandwich. The...chef offered us loads of options. They couldn’t be more helpful. It was a lovely lunch sitting outside. Food was spot on. A few tweaks and this pub would be five star and in fairness to the owners, they’ve not been there that long so I have no doubt that it will get even better. This pub deserves to be great. I would urge you to try it. We would return.More

Lovely pub, very welcoming, bar staff were fantastic. Very clean and relaxed setting, food was okay, was a bit over priced for the very limited menu, wasn't impressed much with the burger. But otherwise everything was amazing.

Simon and Andrew hosted my brothers wake after his burial at the nearby woodland burial site. They did absolutely everything they could have done to make this a smooth and hassle free experience. Every member of staff was a delight, they could not have been...kinder and more helpful. From putting a music playlist together to catering, giving us exclusive use of the pub for the afternoon, not minding the children rampaging, and just being generally lovely, we could not fault them. A massive thank you to them and their team for making a sad occasion easy, we hope your business flourishes as it should do.More

WOW! Completely blown away with The George and Falcon. We came to watch a gig with friends, singer was Lloyd Gissing who was excellent. The Pub is immaculate and felt so homely. Excellent service from all the staff, we didn't want to leave. We stayed...the night in one of the rooms, beds were VERY comfy. Rooms were spacious and also immaculate. We are already planning another trip back!More

We are always made to feel comfortable on all our visits but...this time there was a food menu available so we had to try it out. We were not dissapointed , tempura prawns were lovely as was the burger and chips ... we have since booked a table for 11 this week and I will leave a further review. 5 stars at least for this lovely pub and staff team . We were married at the George & Falcon one year ago and celebrated our first anniversary with a lovely dinner there. Simon & Andy were so attentive and greeted us with an anniversary card and a bottle of bubbly. They have a new menu with...delicious food. Some old favourites like sausage and mash plus fajitas and much more. Would highly recommend.More
