Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow, my husband and I had a wonderful lunch. We both had the cod followed by creme brulee. Wow, the food was spectacular along with the hospitality. We were made extremely welcome.

We have followed Richard Lindsay from the start of there journey back in 2012. Every establishment they take on is always brought up to a very high standard and makes you feel very welcome from when you turn up to you leaving. Front of house...is run by Lindsay and nothing is any problem if you want something doing along with her staff. Richard is the chef and the food is so beautiful presented and the flavours are just so divine and if you have any allergies Richard and Lindsay would sort out the food so you can still enjoy your food and time at the Plough. Thank you for a lovely Sunday 3 course meal. Ian & Celia.More

Went to The Plough for the first time for Sunday Lunch. Knew it was meant to be good, but had heard it was pricey. £30 for two of the best Sunday lunch courses seems good value to me. The meat (we had the roast beef...and the pork) came as real thick cuts, none of this wafer thin you usually get. Deserts (cheesecake sundae and creme brulee) were also fab. Ate in the bar (as we had a dog), lovely surroundings and friendly service. Will definitely be back!More

We have followed Lindsey and Richard over the last few years and are delighted they are back doing what they do best. You can’t find a better dining experience in a cosy British gastro-pub. Richard is a gifted Chef working solo, so don’t expect fast...food or extensive menus. The food is more expensive than the average pub , but this is no ordinary pub, and the food comes personally cooked and is on a par with its Michelin starred neighbours.Sit back enjoy the ambience and savour the experience ,the food is fabulous and the carefully chosen wine list a joy. This place is worth travelling to and a great addition to the Helmsley dining scene . We just hope this is the formula for lasting success in these challenging times. You can even bring your dog!More

We’ve eaten at Richard and Lindsay’s previous restaurants on a number of occasions, so we arrived here with high expectations and we were not disappointed. Wonderful Sunday lunch. As good as we’ve had in a long time. Beef was beautifully cooked and so tender. Nice...cosy pub and Lindsay is a great host.More

Delicious Sunday lunch. Traditional but with a high end feel. My husband’s soup was gorgeous as was my salmon starter. Both the beef & the pork were lovely. We went for the wine pairings and enjoyed them all. We shared the chocolate pot which was...definitely 10 out of 10. Interesting choice of gins, including one with squid ink. Sounds revolting but actually nice. Really good experience hope to come back and try the evening menu. Good service.More

Booked at rather short notice but managed to get a table for 6.30pm which suited our plans. Upon arriving ilwe were quickly seated and our drinks order was taken whilst we perused the menu. Just the right amount of choices for the main coarse. All...three of us settled for different mains and all three were outstanding for taste even if it took slightly longer than normal for them to appear. As the chef works alone I can understand the delay. The food was outstanding and although we didn't take advantage of the excellent choice of wines we made do with mineral water and the odd pint. The service was excellent and mine host was most helpful in explaining the various dishes along with the young waitress who was really helpful. If I am ever in the area again I will certcall again.More
