Welcome to 4 Locos. Founded in 2018, we provide our guests with an authentic Argentine eating experience. We use fresh meat imported directly from Argentina, organic vegetables from local suppliers and all of our dishes are prepared from scratch daily. Visitors to our Purley steak restaurant can expect a warm welcome, attentive service, friendly staff and the best selection of wines from Argentina. Amazing Food, Amazing Service - Absolutely the best!

Booked a table for lunch on the August Bank Holiday and so glad we did - it was extremely busy and I can understand why. The service on arrival to the time we left was absolutely brilliant and the food was just incredibly good and amazing value (even without the Dine out to Help out promotion). The steaks are cooked to perfection and on par with the best Argentinian restaurants in Buenos Aries. Would highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion, and if you have food allergies they are happy to cater for them and even will offer alternatives to accommodate your dietary requirements. The wine selection is brilliant and reasonably priced. I would highly recommend the Tipaz Merlot. Cannot wait to go back...

Steak cooked the way it should be

Second visit to 4 Locos and sober this time so able to enjoy and remember the experience. This visit was during Covid-19 and the weekend before the Government's Eat Out initiative kicked it so it was quiet but still had a bit of an atmosphere. Good choice of steak options (other food available, but why would you go to a steak restaurant) in term of cuts and weights. I went for the sirloin and asked for it rare and it was beautifully cooked. Accompanying salad and mushrooms were well prepared and tasted lovely. Overall a very good meal. Drinks a little on the pricey side, £5 small bottle beer and £8 large glass wine but they also gave us 2 glasses of champagne as it was their 2nd birthday.

First post lockdown meal

I have reviewed this place before and I really love it. Having visited again for my first post-lockdown meal in a restaurant, it is as good as ever! It felt as safe as you could hope for. Well spaced tables, disposable menus, sachets of salt, pepper and sauces instead of sharing bottles and staff wearing masks. Still very highly recommended!

Dreadful

We been couple of times. However we will not be back this time. It was dreadful. Considering the current cilmate that we are all living in it was shocking to see that the only hand sanitiser was at the entrance. All other establishments that we have visited have it located at regular intervals and you are encouraged to use it. The steak was OK however expensive when taking into account that it only comes with chips or salad and everything else is an extra and 4.00 for 1.5 portabello mushrooms is excessive as is 4.00 for Sweetcorn. We tried to order champagne but they didn't have any so we opted for prosecco instead which was warm and then being advised by the waitress that I had ordered the wrong cocktail to go with my steak as I really should have red wine!!!!! We were in and out within an hour dreadful will not be back

Excellent steak, but…

Having read all the rave reviews, and really in the mood for a good steak, I thought I’d pop into 4Locos to give them a try yesterday evening. Let me begin by saying one thing: the food is outstanding. I had the morcilla starter and it was absolutely delicious, soft and subtly spiced; the quality of my fillet steak was superb and both the peppercorn sauce and fries were excellent. My dulce de leche dessert was also very good, although I couldn’t finish it as I was full by that point. The wine list is mostly Malbec, unsurprisingly, but I found a very nice Syrah to accompany the morcilla and the Malma Reserva Malbec I chose for the main course was soft and vibrant; a very nice wine. So far, so good. But now the negatives. Service, whilst polite, was perfunctory at best. There was no attempt from either the waitress or the restaurant manager to built rapport; one would have thought that, seeing a new client and a solo diner, at least some introduction to the restaurant or the menu would be made. I don’t need the staff to become my best friends but some interest would have been nice… Am I local? Why did I choose the restaurant? Have I ever been to Argentina? Just basic customer service, really. The music was not my cup of tea; I would have preferred more traditional Argentinian songs, rather than contemporary chart drivel, although I accept that that is subjective. There were no napkins, only basic red paper tissues, which I found poor for a proper restaurant and more befitting of the chain pub across the road. No sweet wines were available, which was a bit remiss, given the excellent desserts. Something for their “mixology artist” to consider, perhaps? And, finally, the cardinal sin: I requested my steak to be blue. Mine was nearer medium-rare. “Blue” means you heat up the pan (or grill) until it is fiercely hot and then place the steak on it for ten seconds on each side. That’s it. Let the steak rest for ten minutes, then serve. Now, I fully understand that some restaurants err on the side of caution when customers request very rare meat but if a customer does ask for a specific degree of cooking, then that ought to be provided. Overall, I really enjoyed the quality of both the food and drink (my Old Fashioned cocktail and amaretto were also very good) but the steak was not cooked as requested and the customer service was not particularly welcoming. I would like to give 4Locos another chance but I think that I’ll give them specific instructions on how to cook my steak next time.

First outing since lockdown

We went out for our first celebration since the lockdown happened and the food was great. The whole evening was great in fact as the friendly staff made sure that we were well looked after from beginning to end. The restaurant has been rearranged with COVID in mind to ensure adequate space between the tables and all of the staff wore masks at all times whilst serving. The restaurant was not overly busy either. There were also hand sanitising stations at the entrance and outside the toilets. The restaurant is also continuing the “eat out to help out” initiative on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in September. We will definitely return. Thank you 👏🏻

Fabulous!

First time here and super impressed with their COVID-19 measures, lots of hand sanitisers throughout the restaurant, all staff wore masks, tables spaced for social distancing. My husband ordered T bone steak, the best he's tasted in years, l had halloumi burger and they don't scrimp on the chips. The cheesecake really was homemade and delicious along with the Tiramisu, would recommend and can't wait to return. Parking nearby

Had a big (age) birthday party for 10. The manager was very helpful, came up with a special menu for us with great choices. Food was great and portions were generous. Service was also very good. A very good night was had by all.

The restaurant is well presented but the service is almost non existent, you have to ask for everything. No food or drink is put on the table you have it passed to you!. Good selection and quality of drinks. Head server very abrupt. Most of the main courses come with salad or chips surely it should be salad and chips! The steak dish for 2 people came with 1 portion of chips we had to ask for another! No salad dressing such as standard oil and vinegar had to ask for it! All condiments in sachets which you would only expect in a cafe! Steaks were good and cooked well.

Highly recommend, great restaurant

Great service, delicious food. We regularly visit Four Locos because it’s always a really enjoyable, quality meal. Our waitress is always friendly and attentive, the food is really fresh (we love the freshly baked olive bread at the start of the meal) and we always have the sharing steak with chimichurri sauce. The cocktails are good too!

Good Food as always...massively let down by service at the end

We have eaten here multiple times, and in all likelihood would do again. The food is always great. The steaks are cooked as requested, and we always come away saying how much we enjoyed it. However, last night we were massively let down by the service at the end. We had booked a table for later in the evening, and by 8:30/8:45 we were the only table left in the restaurant. We had ordered a round of drinks when we arrived, and with our main meal we ordered a bottle of wine. By the time we finished our main meal, we still had 3/4 of the bottle of wine, and it was just coming up to about 9pm. We thought that we could have a nice, relaxing time enjoying our wine as at no point had we asked that our starter and main all be served and completed by 9. We were asked if we wanted desert, which we declined and got on with talking and enjoying the wine. At about 9:10 we were presented with the bill, whilst we still had half a bottle of wine along with the comment of "no rush". If only this was true. Within 5 minutes the staff member was there asking if I was ready to pay. I told them "no" and that I would pay once we had finished our wine. Fast forward another 15-20 minutes and again they were back with the card machine asking if we were ready to pay. By this stage, I had had enough (we still had wine in the bottle) and paid the bill. We finished our wine and left. I do appreciate that staff would like to get home, especially if there is only 1 table in the restaurant. If that is the case, don't take late bookings and then try and force people out, after only an hour. What would have been a lovely evening, was ruined by this behavior.

Good sized portions, great service, but food is average

Its a cute place with good decor and good location. Anna was a really good host and made us welcomed. The food choices were quite wide and we managed to easily choose stuff that we wanted. The first thing to note is that kids meals are pretty much the same size as adult meals. The different is the cut. My complaint is only to the quality of steak that we received. I ordered a Sirloin and my other half ordered Fillet. Both medium rare and we received them in medium rare form. I noted that my stake was a bit dry, but was still medium rare. It was confusing to me. Fillet was ok, but had a interesting taste for the better. It wasnt just fried by itself. My onion rings were over-fried and dry. I didnt return them, but i should have. Both kids received rump steak, which was fine, but also quite dry. I am not sure why this is happening. May be with the sauce on the side it could be better. Will try that next time.

Saturday night dinner

We had a great meal here. I had chicken which was lovely and tender. My husband had steak which was cooked to perfection his words were the best steak he has had in a very long time he had plenty of salad to go with it. I had hot chocolate pudding and ice cream that was delicious. Our waitress was happy and friendly.

Fantastic Steak Experiences

Four of us visited 4 Locos on Sunday afternoon for lunch. I signed in with the covid app and my mum and mrs filled in a short form for contact tracing. Mask wearing was recommended but optional and the staff were wearing masks, hand sanitizer was available at numerous locations. The girls really enjoyed the Supremo Malbec whilst my Peroni came with an iced glass which was a nice touch. For starters we had beef empanadas which were delicious and mixed olives. My son had the pork ribs which were out of this world, very tasty and a big plateful. We all had the fillet steaks which were done just as we asked and of a premium quality with a superb peppercorn sauce. The service from Renate was very good and Alex's knowledge and recommendations were much appreciated. Hats off to the chef and his team for a wonderful we will definitely be back.
