Four of us had a superb meal here on Friday 26 July. We were seeing friends in Newark as we live in North Wales. They recommended eating here and I'm glad they did.
The menu was really interesting and far removed from the standard food we get in most Indian restaurants. The quality was high and all 4 of us had different and equally exciting food. I like my food a little spicy so they tweaked their dish to accommodate me.
The service was impeccable and the cost very reasonable for the array of dishes we had.
I would thoroughly recommend eating here- be adventurous and move away from your madras and korma usual fayre!

"A Perfect Evening"
Dinner at Koinonia Restaurant was outstanding! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. The Crab Masala was expertly prepared—flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. We ended with the Mango Kulfi, which was the ideal sweet finish to a perfect meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience!

We’ve been coming to this Resturant since the early 2000s for special occasions as a family. Consistently authentic Keralian food: we’ve had numerous dishes over the years all have been lovely and tasty; we had the type of banana leaf fish curry today with chapatis and poori all delicious ( our favourite dishes so please try it ) and our daughter had the starter seafood platter again delicious; sound customer service; great atmosphere and ambience. Rare these days in restaurants to find such consistency over the many years in these areas of providing both food and service. Plus the Resturant is open at lunchtimes aswell as in the evenings which is great, as it’s mainly the lunchtimes we visit now.

Food was absolutely amazing, there was lots of vegan options which were clearly marked on the menu. The masala dosa was especially delicious! My husband got their house special, and it was very pleased with the quality of meat and depth of flavours.
The customer service was great, with very friendly waiters who were very knowledgeable about their options.

Booked online for four of us to celebrate my husband’s 70th birthday. Greeted by a warm welcome & shown to our table by a gentleman, front of house, who remembered I’d stated it was hubby’s special birthday!
The menu is extremely varied & looked very appetising, we spent quite some time trying to choose, whilst enjoying our drinks, brought very swiftly to our table. The same gentleman assisted with our choices & was extremely helpful throughout the evening.
The Dosas were a favourite of my husband’s when we had a Southern Indian Restaurant in Lincoln many moons ago now, so we chose two of those for starters to share. They were lovely & tasty with the spicy chutneys to accompany them.
He chose the Seafood Curry having never had fish curry before & loved it. Chicken curry, a Lamb curry & Butter Chicken were all ordered with peanut rice & coconut rice, Poori breads which were fabulous.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals & had desserts….Mango ice- cream was fantastic, extra creamy & totally delicious!
We had a great evening…lovely relaxed atmosphere with great staff & fabulous food…we hope to return soon.
Thank you all at Koinonia for a totally memorable experience!

Monday evening began very quietly. Our first visit to this restaurant. We were the only people and were greeted by a delightful waitress who made us feel very welcome. More customers arrived and from the greetings it was obvious they were ,on the whole ,regulars. We are familiar with Indian food having lived and worked on the sub continent for years. We had never had Keralan food before. It was wonderful. Each dish had its own flavour and textures varied.quite delicate and subtle use of herbs and spices. Unlike so many Indian restaurants where many dishes taste the same. We shall certainly be back.

The food is superlative.. Not like most Indian restaurants, although I like those too. Here you meet friendly and attentive staff, eat Keralan specialities in a relaxed atmosphere. I loved it and will come again... And again.... And again

Really lovely spot for some delicious, authentic dishes. I required gluten free food and all the staff were really attentive and advised me on what best to have. Fresh food, great flavours, and a welcoming happy atmosphere

I have reviewed this restaurant before but not for a while and not for a family visit.
First off the food here is always excellent, I always have something different and no matter what I have I have always enjoyed it but this is the first time I have taken my fussy teen age kids. One is almost vegetarian and the other is just fussy.
For my older child there is a large choice of vegetarian options and she had no trouble selecting from the menu. My younger daughter has a thing about spice. She likes bland food with no level of spice at all so we asked our waitress what she would suggest and she said that dishes could be made milder to suit her tastes. As She doesn't like sauces either she asked if she could have the Lamb starter as a main which was no problem.
When the starters came out my youngest decided hers was too 'spicy' so the the waitress offered to take it back to the kitchen and brought out a fresh less 'Spicy' version which my daughter was very happy with.
We all enjoyed our meals but what marks this restaurant out for me is the combination of excellent food and brilliant customer service.
My tastes might differ from yours and if you like a particular cuisine so I won't rave about the food, although I could, but excellent customer service always stands out and we have always had that at this restaurant.
My favourite restaurant in Newark.

We loved every moment of our time at Koinonia Restaurant, beginning with the warm welcome, taking time to savour the descriptions on the menu, and then catch that first glimpse of the food when it arrived. We were ambitious and went for a starter as well as the main course, but had no room beyond that for sampling the desert wares. The dishes were generous in size and plenteous in wonderful tastes: my wife had lamb and I chose fish curry, and both were excellent!!

So so so good! The service was lovely and they recommended some wonderful food which we devoured, the duck was so delicious if it weren’t for my stomach capacity I’d have had it 8 times consecutively.
Really nice place, lovely atmosphere and really homey food.

I had an amazing dining experience in Koinonia Restaurant, The warm ambiance, attentive staff, and spectacular food made it unforgettable. Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors and beautifully presented, fish ilayil pollichath with kappa was exceptional. A must-visit for all south India food lovers! Can't wait to return.

Stunning South Indian food! Beautifully and delicately spiced and flavoured we went a bit mad and ran up quite a bill but so worth it! The sambar wada was a revelation, my partners Kuttandan duck sublimely tender, likewise the railway mutton curry. A must try!

They were very welcoming to us and we walked in, very hungry and done 30,000 steps! We loved the lamb chops and Uthappam for starters, I highly recommend! their specials of stuffed sea bass with rice and vegetable stew was a dynamite full of intense and flavoursome goodness! Their portions were right amount for me and I was very sad to finish it becuase it was the best fish I’ve tasted in a long time! They have very good selection of desserts!

We will probably need to try this restaurant in the evening but 2 lunchtime visits have left us a bit flat. Opting for the lunchtime special we were not quite prepared for the minuscule portions of the Thali. I mean one teaspoon if your lucky of curry.
The gentleman serving on both occasions seems completely distracted, he’s not a very smiley type and seems to want to be elsewhere. Last time we went he was showing people around the back of the building and was barely present in the restaurant. Our food we suspect had been waiting a while to come out as it was no longer very hot, all served on a very cold metal plate, as someone has also said soft drinks are expensive
