Came here with my wife, daughter, partner and 3 year old grandson for dinner. The restaurant was well laid out with good social distancing ensured. The decor is good and it has a nice relaxing feel to it. There were plenty of staff on duty and service was very good. The menu was not huge but had a decent variety of options for all. My wife and I both went for the fish and chips which was excellent. My daughter’s burger was substantial, as was her partners salmon, and were also delicious. My grandson had the kids fish & chips which was a decent portion size and he enjoyed it. There was also a decent selection of deserts, although the absence of a cheese board was a bit disappointing. Prices are very reasonable and the governments “Covid subsidy” made it excellent value. Definitely worth a visit!

Visited here tonight to take advantage of the current 50% off deal. We were pleasantly surprised by the range of vegetarian options and the quality of food. The service was quite slow and the lighting inside was extremely bright for a light evening however that is all we can think to fault sunlight on. We will be back!

Wirral's Hidden Oasis - Lovely food and drinks, with speciality cocktails on offer

We have dined at Sunlight Restaurant on many occasions over the past 4 years. Never been disappointed, whether it's been a simple meal for 2 or family parties. We were well looked after on Boxing Day, for a family meal and returned on New Years Eve for a festive feast of a meal. Staff are always friendly and nothing is ever too much to ask for. Celebrated my dads birthday here for the past few years and looking forward to his 100th on 6 April and a family party for him. l would recommend this restaurant and encourage customers to also look out for the regular themed nights that are staged.

Very disappointed delivered meal.

Ordered twice today. Lunch time for a relative’s birthday. The meal leaked through the bag, all over my wife’s trousers, jumper, fleece, in her handbag and the floor of the car - the jury is out as whether their washing is successful, and if not we will be contacting the restaurant again. Can’t comment on the food. Contacted the restaurant, they apologised and promised us 2 complimentary desserts with our dinner order. Dinner Delivery 25 minutes late, (no apology from the deliverer, just moaned about not being able to find our house - we live 5 minutes by car from the restaurant!), no complimentary desserts, food cold and the lasagna meal was so small that it looked like a side dish, but cost £9. (See photo below ) . Sunlight restaurant not recommended and will not be used again,

Average food, no attention to detail

We went to a Christmas night out as a group. The staff tried hard and were friendly enough, the food was no more than average. I don't call a crushed digestive with a lick of cream in a small glass a cheesecake !. The vegetables (fresh) were served hard and cold. The main course was served to us 1.5 hours after we arrived and well after most people had eaten theirs. The venue was packed with around 130 people ( if you include the birthday party taking place in the conservatory). This is far too many for the venue, as a result the food was served late (as I mentioned) the tables were too close together and worse the queue at the bar was lengthy and ran into the already small dance floor. The shape of the venue simply does not lend itself to a 130 person party. This means that there was little room to dance or move. The lady singer was a bit better than a typical pub singer and she also ran the disco. The music she played was a baffling choice, the type you get at kids birthday party mixed with B sides and specialised modern 'none' classics an unwelcome 'trip through the bad taste of the decades' . Clearly the lady has not attended many discos herself. This left even the most inebriated customer wondering weather to sit or dance. Fortunately, for the venue that is, I suspect most people had drunk enough to enjoy themselves anyway, as did we, due the many friends we had with us. Will not be going back !

Horrible Takeaway Food

This is now the second time we have purchased from the Sunlight restaurant and i have to say the standards are extremely low and now worth the prices they are charging. £19 for 2 grilled chicken breast fillets, 3 potatoes and something that i can only say resembles mashed carrot but smells like 2 week old socks. a yorkshire pudding and some cauliflower cheese plus extra roast potatoes. Each time we have purchased from these we have received 1/3 of a tub of gravy the rest has been at the bottom of the bag. This will be the last time i purchase from these and would highly recommend you go elsewhere for your roast as quality is not a factor when it comes to this establishment. Food is abysmal and when you contact them and advise them of the issues, yes you get an apology but and offered to get a new tub of gravy delivered but £19 for a takeaway roast dinner which i wouldn't even feed to the homeless or my dog. Beware of this place do not order from here. i would have posted pictures but most of it went in the toilet after it made my partner sick.

Promises so much does not deliver

The front of house are brillant shame the kitchen does not live up to them. On arrival were presented a glass of fizz, in my books that means Champagne not processco. Scallops and black pudding along with sorbet brilliant the rest was not good soggy toast tasteless soup, beef was rare but tough vegetables not even al dente. Potatoes not cooked. Brûlée to soft undercooked. Drinks service was spot people left early and come on guys if your ladies dress up then jeans trainers and a polo shirt not good enough

Very disappointed

My husband and I ate here on a sunday, i had espresso martini which was 2 for £10, they just tasted of water, i asked waitress to add another shot of kahlua or tia maria, she started to tell me what goes into one and i stopped her as i make them all the time, it was brought back to me tasting the same, i left them. Starter came which was fine, our main was waiting on the pass whilst waiters were talking, husband had burger and chips which i thought looked like a childs meal, i had lamb dinner, roast potato's were hard and beige, i asked for mint sauce which they said they had none... 5 mins later waitress gave me a pot off another table with there spoon in , i was shocked!!! The next day i had an email from them to give feedback which i did, they didn't have the decency to reply hence this review. I wasn't looking for any compensation for the service we got but an apology would have been nice.

Disappointing Christmas Day 2021 Lunch

Booking for 2pm [four in our party] pre-ordered meal one week prior to visit. starters served 42 mins after our arrival, bowls of soup had to be returned as served tepid not hot. Main courses followed some 35 minutes later, presentation was dismal such as may be served in a transport cafe setting [nothing remotely like pictures depicted on website]. The veg had no finesse about the method of cooking, sprouts not dressed with usual additions expected, carrots served bland no glazing, rest of veg plain. A main item, roast potatoes, were more like hard boiled potatoes, not crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Two of our party elected/requested vanilla ice cream for dessert [pre-ordered] received a preparation as would be served to a child, one small scoop of ice cream sprinkled with 100's&1000's dressing. As notified in my unanswered letter to the management, we did not complain on the day as we had no desire to cause embarrassment being Christmas Day and a crowded restaurant. Overall the meal presented was not what we expected from a professional chef and a complete let down. In addition the table did not have a table cloth and the napkins were of paper. This was a special meal on a special day and at £70 per head a complete disappointment. We did not even get asked if we would like coffee. Lastly the bottle of white wine ordered was served at room temperature and I doubt it had seen the inside of a wine cooler. D Walker

hubby’s birthday steak YUCK

We went for hubby’s birthday Friday, 21/02/20. Had read lovely reviews on Facebook. The starter pate for me, duck spring rolls for hubby where lovely. Then on to the steak ribeye. Wanted medium to well mine again was fine though a little undercooked for my liking. My husbands plate was full of blood so obviously not cooked to his liking. Sent it back, it returned looking like a flat iron completely incinerated. Tried to eat and tough as old boots. Complained to waitress who just said we are sorry and will tell the chef. Asked for bill, once again asked how was meal, told her about steak oh sorry again. 3rd time, another lady how was your meal, again mentioned steak, oh sorry. No offer say of a sweet/drink or refund of any sort. Will not be going there again. Very disappointed

Cheap cafe not restaurant quality.

I booked table of 6 for Mother’s Day as heard nice things. On arrival we we left standing in doorway and weren’t even acknowledged by staff walking past for several minutes.Eventually we were seated, waitress came back with cutlery and rather than walk around the table to place on table far end threw the knife and fork at my sister because she couldn’t reach. Comical, no offer of drinks then starters came. Beef burnt, prawn cocktails ok. Had to go an ask if we could get some drinks. Waited quite some time for mains. All ordered Roast dinners. No condiments with meals, asked for mint sauce twice which never came. Jesus the giant Yorkshire pudding was solid and burnt, inedible. Vegetables raw and inedible. Meat fatty, roast potatoes under cooked and what I can only describe as puréed curried carrot again inedible. Desserts weren’t too bad. Browner was nice, shortbread cheap packet bought, treacle tarts pastry burnt. All in all very disappointing. Atmosphere was like a cheap well lit cafe and charging restaurant prices with extremely poor service. Four out of our party of 6 literally had diahorhea within hours of getting home. Never again.

Food okay, service to match

When entered, staff greeting were pleasant, we had a table of booked for Mother’s Day. Starters came out as soon as other guests were seated leaving them with no drinks. Starters were okay, not really a fan of the pate, it seemed it wasn’t set and left to become mush. For main we had a mix of roast dinner’s, pies, fish and chips and steak. Roasts including vegetarian were not very tasty, and i got the impression they had been sitting there for some time and we weren’t questioned on the fact that some were left with full plates. Whilst catering for coeliac and vegetarian we were grateful to the front of house staff. We ordered some extra deserts, which again we were grateful for the staff catering for us, but when presented with the wrong order of deserts we received a swearing frustration under her breath sake under her breath when we picked up on this mistake. The other waitresses we couldn’t fault but this particular staff member proceeded to stand with the card machine becoming impatient huffing and puffing which we did not appreciate after paying nearly £300 for food we didn’t really enjoy and disappointing service to go along side this.

Letting in new Year with fun and laughter

Spent a very pleasant evening enjoying good food to see out 2019 and welcome in 2020. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the quality of the food is excellent. It was a set menu but don't be fooled it wasn't a plain boring run of the mill menu and it had a vegetarian option. The food was freshly cooked, served hot and very tasty. There was a DJ playing music throughout the night and the atmosphere was friendly and fun. Well worth another visit in the New Year for one of their Tribute Nights.

Horrendous experience l!!

Booked for a Mothers Day meal this evening 19.03.23. Food inedible, owners were at the bar at the end of the night and didn’t acknowledge the fact we were asking a member of staff to emphasise that we had to send two meals back and our daughters meal (she is 2) came 25 minutes after the rest of the party. We were told that the delay was due to “making sure the chicken was cooked through” 🙄 The two meals we sent back were chicken burgers and they were completely overdone, and completely black on one side. We should of sent another beef burger meal also, but we couldn’t face another delay after waiting nearly an hour for the main courses. Someone who claimed to be the owner came over with a dismissive, rude attitude to advise the reason for the bad service and experience was due to us booking a table for 8 at 6pm and that they had been busy. Please do not book or spend your hard earned money here. £25 for two courses .. total rip off, probably the worst quality of food I’ve ever had in a restaurant. It good be great if run well but unfortunately this just isn’t the case.

After what feels like years we finally came back to sunlight after restrictions lifted today. They certainly have not lost their touch and LOVING the new alfresco menu! The 4 of us had a selection of starters, sides & light bites. It was absolutely delicious and even though sat outside the food was still hot when picking. Unfortunately no photos are we was too excited to dig in but definitely worth the visit. Staff are brilliant and so excited to see all customers back which is such a joy and leaves a fabulous atmosphere. As before still very covid safe, glass has been popped out of the conservatory area to create more space for customers which I a brilliant idea! We have actually booked for Sunday lunch this weekend in that room. The car park has been closed and has had tables socially distanced around - it’s a very good sun trap! Hand sanitiser on arrival and dotted around the place too and track & trace QR code available as well as pen & paper. Brilliant day all round - see you Sunday x
