First time since lockdown

We decided to have a meal out for the first time since lockdown started and chose our local pub The Royal Exchange. We didn't want to travel far and this one is a minutes' walk away. The pub was sorted out with respect to social distancing and the staff was well aware of what was required. The pub was surprisingly full, but that was because we booked for outside and the weather wasn't good enough for that. The service was very good; the food was placed at the end of the table away from us but within reach. I had a terrine starter, my wife had a salad, followed by a Brevette steak, I had salmon fish cake, followed by sticky toffee pud. The food was excellent; well presented and prepared, and the drinks were good too. I had two pints of Red Mist which is brewed for the small chain of pubs of which the RE was one. The beer was its usual high standard; it was good to a pint of draught. When it came to paying, the eat out to help out scheme saved us £20 which we were well happy with. A definite place to visit again, hopefully the Chancellor will keep the scheme going after the 31st August.

We've worked hard to put the new COVID measures in place in order to make our customers feel safe and comfortable, so I'm really pleased to hear that you were happy with the arrangements. As always, we aim to serve you honest, good quality food at a price that represents good value; even better when the Chancellor is giving you money off too! I'm glad that you enjoyed your meal, and were able to wash it down with some good quality, local ale. We think Red Mist ale from Tilford Brewery is a crowd pleasing ale, that's versatile enough to match most of our menu, and it's great that you enjoyed it. We are now extending the Eat Out to Help Out offer through September, so I hope you will return soon and enjoy another good meal with a decent saving too! Matt

Very Friendly Welcome, Safe Service and Great Food

As a regular I am pleased to see that the standards are consistent with very helpful staff and the chefs are always willing to please. It is especially good value as they are subsidising the meals at their own costs at the moment. Safety practising include hand sanitisation, partitions and separate entrance and exit. For ventilation the doors and windows are open. The meals are freshly cooked and very tasty. Definitely to be recommended.

Delicious

The food and staff here have always been fantastic and when I visited as part of the eat out to help out scheme I was not disappointed. A 2 course set menu for £10 is amazing value for money and I was pleased to see plenty of gluten free options available to me. I had the steak and chips followed by the apple crumble tart. Friendly and attentive staff made the whole experience a very positive one. I'll be returning many times in the future.

Excellent lunch

Very friendly staff with a warm welcome started the lunch off well. Good choice of menu served nice & hot, without delay. The “eat out to help out” government scheme coupled with a £10 birthday voucher from the company made for a truly wonderful, value for money meal. COVID requirements were carried out well & unobtrusively.

Although we offer good value for money on our menu, the government scheme has certainly improved the offering (especially using vouchers from our Red Card rewards scheme). Fantastic food and drink

We visited the Royal Exchange for the first time yesterday with friends and we were really pleasantly surprised! The food was absolutely delicious, really reasonably priced and they catered for my gluten intolerance really well - nearly all of the menu can be made gluten free and they plate them on a green plate so you know it’s definitely gluten free. The drinks were reasonably priced and the cocktails were very yummy! The waiting staff were very attentive and the food came out quickly despite the pub being quite busy. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Enjoyable meal but service was poor

We are regular visitors to The Royal Exchange, Lindford and have always received good food and great service. Unfortunately on recent visits with friends it would appear there has been a cut back on staff and this results in poor services at times. On our last visit on 6th February we waited a considerable time to be given menus. We had to ask for them after a table who arrived after us received theirs first. No water was brought to the table and generally service was poor. This is letting the place down.

Meeting up with friends from far afield for the first time since Covid 19.

Excellent service and food. Very well organised regarding the Covid 19 precautions. This is our local restaurant and we have been visiting it since it opened and are happy to bring friends and family for a meal. Although we do not visit pubs just for a drink this pub is well arranged to satisfy all needs even when bringing pets.

Another lovely lunch at The Royal Exchange. The special, beef bourguignon was a real treat, with 50 % off. Staff are so helpful and COVID arrangements are very thorough. Good to have the car park back too.

Covid Take Away

Since the Royal Exchange began a 'take away' service during the Covid shut down I have had several meals all of which have been both great to eat and large enough to satisfy any stomach. Since the restaurant re-opened (with fewer tables) I was interested to see that they have continued the 'take away' service so last night we ordered another meal and were delighted with the result. I hope this will continue to be a programme they offer as we get back to normal as it is not always convenient to actually go out. Meanwhile, if you are unable to go out for a celebration I recommend that you try this option if you are living in the area.

Warm welcome. Delicious seafood sharing platter.

Our first impressions were very positive with the warm welcome we received. We enjoyed the seafood sharing platter, consisting of a generous serving of crab along with delicious battered prawns, whitebait and smoked salmon; accompanied by dressed salad and fries. A very pleasant lunch. Finally, I must compliment The Royal Exchange for their excellent protocols during the COVID-19 crisis. Tables are widely spaced, servers maintain distance and sanitisers are in abundance.

Our first visit to this restaurant. It was clean and tidy. The staff were attentive, polite and not overbearing. They gave us room and time to peruse the menu and when the food came, which was not long in being served, it was cooked well tasted delicious and the portions were a good size. Would recommend and will be returning.

Good food, friendly service

Always a warm welcome here. Lovely staff. The bread basket is always fresh and warm with a good selection breads. Fairly standard pub fare, prices aren’t the cheapest but it’s decent food. Nice couple of hours 😊

Our bread is provided by a local artisan baker; we were impressed with the bread when we first tried it. We aim to serve British pub food, done well; it's not necessarily 'fancy', but we focus on quality and sourcing locally where possible. We feel the price reflects this; we know we aren't the cheapest pub around, but we're proud of the quality that we serve (and the service that goes with it). I'm glad you had a nice couple of hours, and hope you will visit us again (as soon as we're allowed to reopen, of course!) Matt

Expensive catch up meal with friend!

Lovely starter. , followed by fish pie which though very tasty was a decidedly small portion for the price of £16.50 . When questioned re the size of the portions the waitress said it was the normal size we suggested she might inform the kitchen of our complaint as they might consider making them a little more generous. The small stainless steel dish was half full! See photo before I even ate any. Nothing was done. On receiving the bill we were shocked to be charged £25 for two large glasses of wine. Our total bill was for £81 for two for a mid week catch up rather expensive in both our eyes. This was the price after we asked the waiter to remove the service charge . Tasty food shame about the small portion of fish pie and very expensive glasses of wine! We will not return.

Always a warm welcome

We came on Eat out to help out to support our local establishment and the staff were back on full form being as friendly and welcoming (in what has been difficult times). Bar staff, waiters/waitresses and the manager Matt were fantastic!! Cannot fault the way in which they are coping with the social distancing. Food good, drinks good, familytime awesome and staff amazing. Thank you for a great visit!

My third visit in 8 weeks,. Dinning Days a Thursday Friday and a,Sunday Each visit had varying amounts of Customers . Consistent food quality and great staff who make an effort . It is not the cheapest venue but definitely the right approach to delivering a quality dinning experience
