Having been to a number of excellent Japanese restaurants in Asia and of course Japan the price tag at Sake is not justifiable for what it is. A very clever restaurant model, I must say though. Unlike a typical restaurant where you expect to go by a three course meal (except for a degustation table type) you are strongly encouraged... More

Everything we ordered was very good - assorted sashimi, chicken robata, miso-cream scallops, and steamed prawn dumplings. Wine list definitely is well chosen. Just seems a lot more expensive than other restaurants we dined in on the trip (for example, '13 Leeuwin Artist Series Chardonnay was $229 AUD at Sake but we ordered bottles of it at other restaurants for... At first, I thought of not writing this but an establishment such as this needs this to be brought to their attention. We came here to dine for romationight n was situated by the cooking station which is pretty cool. We ordered the degustayiob without wine. Halfway through our meal, a brown cockroach made its towards the counter where we... More

The food is very nice and the staff try hard. The food does come out very fast even when they are busy. All the dishes we had were fresh and you seemed to share a plate for two so each serving was placed in front two people, this made it very easy to serve yourself without have to stretch or... More

I booked this restaurant 2 weeks in advance and was really looking forward to trying it. When we arrived the staff seated us at their sushi bar. These seats were awful - uncomfortable and hot being next to the kitchen. And we weren't walk ins and had pre booked so I was disappointed. Luckily the host waa accommodating when I... More

Choice of daughter and her friend so four of us dined at Sake on our last night in Sydney. Excellent choice -first reaction a bit noisy and a bit dark but soon settled down.Had only managed to reserve a sunken table when booking but fortunately there was a conventional table available ( sunken tables are not the most comfortable for... What an amazing lunch. The food was absolutely delicious. It was my first time at Sake and it was on the advise of a friend who has dined here on numerous occasions that the choices from the menu were superb. The kingfish jalapeño, the scampi tempura and new style sashimi were noteworthy, not to mention for dessert, the white chocolate... More

Food is first class modern Japanese, beers were fun, wine was delicious, coffee martini was to die for. I would say one of the best tasting Japanese meals we have had. The service was overbearing and in your face. The staff probably should have sat with us and eaten as we were not left alone for one second. The up... More

The food was good (though some things were average and others were very good). The sushi was excellent--we had the nixon and the alaskan king crab maki. (Unfortunately, they were out of tuna so we didn't get to try the tuna avocado roll, which we had hoped to try.) I don't recommend the house salad or miso soup--both were disappointing.... More

Staying in The Rocks

Neighbourhood Profile
The Rocks
The first residents of the Rocks were convicts and sailors from the old nation. As the oldest neighbourhood in the city, the area's cobblestone streets host more than 100 heritage sites and buildings, including the oldest house in Sydney, Camden Cottage, which was built in 1816. Taste a “midi “ or a “schooner” of beer and dine “al fresco” on the waterfront at some of the oldest pubs in Sydney. The weekend markets at the Rocks are where you can find local artists' hand-made souvenirs, organic food and designer jewelry in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. To enjoy some of the best Australian and international contemporary art, the MCA museum is open every day and select evenings. At the end of a long day of sightseeing, be sure to save energy to dance the night away at the area's many late night entertainment venues.
