Went with 3 friends to this lovely country style restaurant. Every dish was amazing. Must try the spinach and ricotta gnocchi for entree and the fresh cheesecake for dessert. Waiter made sure our experience was excellent. Would happily eat here every night.

I organised to have our work Christmas dinner there having never been there before and it was exactly what I wanted. The food was delicious, great local beers and wine, and the atmosphere was lovely. I especially like the green, plant-filled courtyard at the front, and the restaurant itself is a lovely sandstone building. Staff were very friendly and helpful,... More

We found out bout this amazing restaurant from TripAdvisor because it was close by our hotel. Our experience was so good, that we decide to come back even the day after. We ordered the foie gras as a starter and it was tasting really really good. As a main dishes we had the fish and the meant and they were... More

I wanted to eat so much on the menu that'll need to return! Great range of dishes for entree & mains plus specials. Zucchini flowers are a must, plus duck pate with generous serve of pickles. Sustainable produced food and wine is part of the theme. Small but interesting wine list and the best negroni I've had! Bonus is the... More

Cool downstairs bar with brilliant attentive staff. Water & menus on arrival & our Barrel Aged Negroni cocktails came in a little separate bottle. Excellent 👌🏻

I visited the Commons over the weekend for a friends birthday. She had hired out the area underneath the restaurant. Different vibe than I'm used to and very expensive drinks but I enjoyed myself. The cocktails looked amazing they definitely take pride in the presentation. Canapés were a good range and the staff made sure that no one missed out

First the positives. The outside courtyard was comfortable and pleasant. We picked the Commons because we could bring a puppy. But then... the menu looked interesting when we ordered. Drinks were expensive costing $66 for a medium range bottle of wine. Then we waited and waited. I know we were a larger group but to wait over an hour for... More

Dear Rodney, many thanks for your recent visit at The Commons. Happy to hear you enjoyed our outdoor setting. We sincerely apologise for the delay. Considering it was a lovely sunny day we had a high turnover and from the moment we cook everything to order from two separate menus (breakfast & lunch) some delay should be expected, especially for... Warm welcome place, amazing wine selection, the owner are Italian and Australian and create a mix among this two countries. Delicious the zucchini blossom and the seared scallop. We then had also crumbed lamb loaf and crisp skin ocean trout as a main .. Love them! Excellent combination of ingredients! We had a very good time in a nice atmosphere, thanks... More

This was a second date and my first visit to Commons. Absolutely loved it. Pre drinks in the basement bar and then back upstairs to a wonderful corner table by the fire. Sandstone walls..rustic wood furniture. .good background music..oh yes and beautiful food with excellent service! This is now my favourite venue.

Description
The Commons Local Eating House indulges Sydney locals with seasonally influenced, ingredient-focused cuisine. The name 'THE COMMONS' refers to the 'shared environmental and cultural resources of a city', and we are proud to support Sydney producers wherever we can. Our produce is sourced as ethically as possible, with meat coming from trusted suppliers who are committed to good animal husbandry, we make all attempts to find out where our seafood comes from, utilize fresh produce mostly from around NSW, and support local artisan food makers. The Commons is a celebration of Australia and food & wine inspired by it: the perfect convivial setting for a meal served family style. Complimenting the Chef's cuisine that combines local sensibility with European traditions, particularly those of the Italian Regions, is a value driven wine list whose focus is on small production vineyards of the Australian regions and a few cellar picks from the "Old Country", Italy. The building itself is a tribute to Darlinghurst's heritage architecture with its sandstone walls, original features throughout, convict markings still visible in the basement larder now a intimate cocktail bar "Downtown": hide away from the busy hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a good ol' drink and some of the best blues and jazz in town. We look forward to welcoming you soon at The Commons Local Eating House & Downtown Bar

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
