We enjoyed a birthday meal here with friends. The decor and buzzing atmosphere set a good vibe. We enjoyed the food, although we were encouraged to order too much! It was a little exxy, so wouldn't drop in for a quick meal, but it was nice for an occassion. (We were a little perturbed by the colony of fruit flys... More

Just out exploring and we lucked into the Spanish restaurant. Our meal was delicious and the ambience took us back to Spain.

I recently visited this Spanish restaurant in a group of 4 for a friend's impromptu birthday dinner, and we had a great experience. It was a Wednesday night, so not particularly busy, and it's easy to tell that it would get pretty packed on a weekend as it's not too large a premises. The waitstaff were excellent, very attentive and... More

I'll gladly drive from the other side of Sydney (in this case Bondi) for a meal at Despana. Not overly expensive and with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, my experience here is always decent and one I walk away full and happy with.

We enjoyed the croquettes, beef cheeks and paella. My friend wished the paella to be a bit 'thicker', but I find it just right and flavourful. Overall an enjoyable experience, although it took a long time to serve between the tapas and the paella.

It's lovely to walk into a Spanish restaurant and be greeted by Spanish floorstaff and this happened at Despana. We did not have a booking we just walked in and luckily they had a great table for us. My wife ordered the food and I ordered a lovely little Tempranillo which at $65 was reasonable value. The food was tops.... More

Chorizo and prawn skewers and tasting plate of cured Spanish meats were of high quality. Chorizo croquettes were half warm, half frozen! Unfortunately, the service was slow and took away from the experience a bit.

Staying in Glebe

Neighbourhood Profile
An inner city suburb along the water, Glebe has a deep-rooted sense of cultural history and heritage. It originated as a semi-rural resort for the well-to-do, but has transformed into a student-centric melting pot. Visit Glebe Point Road for ethnic cuisine as standard as Mexican, Indian, Italian and Chinese, or as diverse as Spanish, Bavarian, Polish, Czech and Lebanese. You will find that Glebe is accepting of the eccentrics and aboriginals that roam the streets, integrating students and people of all economic statuses into the multi-cultural fabric that distinguishes this suburb. Glebe Foreshore is a great destination for a leisurely walk along the Bay, and the Saturday market is a great scene for bargain hunters.
