Have visited Ombretta many times as a family outing. It never disappoints. The ever changing menu means each experience is unique and all the more reason to come back again. Food is incredible, try (and share) many dishes to maximise the experience. The wine list...More

Regional dishes and matching wines make this a special experience. Great, friendly service. Need to book ahead. Expensive but worth it.

Yes the whole menu is written in Italian. The staff constantly translate it for us non Italian speakers. The food was very nice. I suspect it could get busy so you probably should book if you can. We just turned up. We did come in...More

We're Italian and love Italian food so we suss out Italian restaurants in our area. Not keen on this place, the porcini risotto is nice but their mains are very poor. The service is also poor, waiters don't seem to care if you're there or...More

It's Sunday night, after what has been a typically busy Sunday lunch trade for Ombretta staff on a perfect Sydney Winters day. Its quieter now and more what we needed for a lazy family dinner. The welcoming staff make us feel right at home and...More

Ombretta has clearly become my favorite Italian restaurant in Sydney having dined there many times. The food is consistently good (of course at times it is "perfectable" but overall I'm still happy) and the wine list also of good quality. Niccolò is friendly and takes...More

Had dinner here last night. Very mixed feelings. The menu is all written on the blackboard in italian and had to be explained dish by dish by the 2 owners/waiters. Unfortunately their accents were so thick I had trouble understanding the descriptions of the dishes....More

We discovered Ombretta recently, even if we live nearby. The idea of creating a new menu on each month, inspired to a different Italian region, is a great one as it renders justice to the variety of different food cultures existent in Italy. We tried...More

Ombretta is the creation of friends and business partners Niccolo Fagherazzi and Michael Schiavello. Niccolo and Michael met in Venice in 2005 over a Campari where the first conversations began in earnest already hatching ideas for bar or restaurant ventures. The common thread was the will to simulate an Italian experience, simply, honestly and faithfully. Several years later and thousands of kilometres away, an opportunity arose that brought them back together to continue the conversations and finally act on ideas to bring them to life. In one of the many conversations they distilled the projection of Ombretta in a few words: Fresh, Seasonal, Cucina Povera. These words go together naturally, therefore the objective was clear and they were immediately on the same page with the direction of the menu. The menu at Ombretta dictates the experience for diners and staff. When a chance meeting with chef Danilo Cerrettini occurred, it was clear that this was a match that could not have been planned more perfectly. Born, raised and trained in Rome, well travelled and experienced in many styles of cookery, Danilo's heart (and stomach) is heavily entrenched in fresh, seasonal cucina povera. Every recipe has a story, every story has a history and all this history is inextricably linked with tradition, culture and place. Most of this will be detailed in the cookbook everyone is waiting for from Ombretta.
