3 of us went to celebrate a birthday. The food was excellent. HOWEVER.....The service was poor. We order soup . Then two starters the soup was completely forgotten and after we ate the other starters still had a 20 minute wait for the soup. The mains were dumped on the table . No politness at all. I will say they... More

Great ambiance and the decor is interesting, a mix of lacquered screens and Chinese prints. Padded bench seating, chairs and stools that look more like enlarged bongo drums. If you are there for the evening stay clear of the stools if you can. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the service was good. Overall the food was good... More

Out of the 4 dishes that we tried, 1 was good (seafood dumplings) and 3 were great!!! (San choi bao, duck wraps, nyonya potato curry) the portion size of the curry was quite small for being a main meal with only 1 (!!!) piece of potato, the chicken was good though. The downside of the place is the incompetent and... More

Pleasantly surprised by the menu here, and happy to see it didn't look too unhealthy. Great choice of tapas style starters - we ordered several and shared around the table. Desserts menu a bit limited and portions small, however still tasty.

We had dinner at Fu Manchu with friends. Food was great, wait staff were very friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable and you can byo. The food service was pretty quick and the restaurant itself deceptively spacious and very nicely fitted out. Recommend for a nice casual night out.

We were staying in the adjoining hotel the kirketon for 2 nights. We were recommended to eat at Fu Manchu 1st night but decided to go elsewhere, ate there the 2nd night and wished of course we had eaten there the night before. The food was exceptional, flavours good, the waiter Mae was a real character. First he asked us... More

On Darlinghurst Rd. Just past the old courthouse, this Chinese restaurant is a mixture of both modern Hong Kong and Cantonese, with wooden interior and lattices make for privacy. The appetizers especially are excellent and the wine selection good. Staff is friendly and efficient.

A separate gluten free menu make ordering easy and when the kitchen tells you that you can't substitute prawns for chicken because of gluten contamination issues you know you're in safe hands. Thank you for caring and the excellent food.

Staff great, food comes quickly, is nice and is very well presented. BUT....We wanted the entrée quantities described as '(2)' in the menu, not the '(4)' because only 3 in our group and one a small eater. So we ordered by requesting '2' e.g. 2 sang choy boa. They took this to mean two lots of the '(4)' size. Result... More

A well established eatery that has been in this location for a few years. Decor is "moody Asian" with lacquered screens and antique Chinese portraits, with well presented marble tables and artistic ceramic plates and bowls. The menu has a wide variety of choices with not only Chinese cuisine but also Malay choices. Portions are adequate for entree and quite... More

Staying in Darlinghurst

Neighbourhood Profile
Darlinghurst
Home of the small bar revolution in Sydney, Darlinghurst has more bars per capita than any other suburb. Themes range from American whiskey bars and 1950’s theme bars to hidden bars requiring secret passwords. Oxford Street is the "Gay Capital" of Australia, where gay and lesbian-friendly venues feature “diva shows” and dancing until the morning. Vintage lovers flock to Crown Street, and small designer boutiques can be found along Victoria and Bourke Streets. Dining in Darlinghurst is a gastronomic adventure. Food from all over the world is on the menu, from American ribs to tapas, sushi to gelato and every ethnicity in between.
