Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely renovated old school inner city pub. Ok so I liked it BUT there is a very limited selection of beers on tap and the food was well, ok. Staff are amazing but I get a sense they are rebuilding from a business point of...view - you know, new beers, a few boutique drops etc. Now despite my lukewarm assessment I’ll be back as it has so much potential l. One can only hope the team knows what they are doing 🙏🙏🙏. Give it a go.More

Chose this hotel for a work end of year gathering, which involved a colleague who is profoundly Deaf. Music was extremely loud, and we were refused several requests to lower the music as were accused this would ruin the atmosphere for the other guests. The...pub was not too busy at the time and due to the location of one speaker directly pointed towards our table, even the wait staff were unable to hear our orders. Would be good if the music system could be improved so requests of this nature can be considered in future. Would not visit this establishment again and would not recommend to friends, family or other work associates.More

I came twice recently. The first was excellent, 2nd time was disappointing. The first time we ordered wines & I had a thousand guineas rump steak with a side of roast vegetables. It was tasty and the old pub atmosphere (venue built in 1888) was...great. The 2nd time was a disappointment. I went for the rump steak again but 2 of the 4 sides (roasted vegetables, garden salad) were not available, leaving the choice of battered fries or onion rings. For a upmarket pub on a Friday night charging $37-$42 for a steak this was a let down & we decided to go somewhere else. I’m not sure if I’d come again - one of my pet hates is where multiple choices on the menu are revealed to be unavailable after you have decided & you are telling the waiter your order. It’s really annoying and shows poor planning. The lovely guy who was our waiter was apologetic & handled things well.More

Ordered the $27 grilled scallops entree and $29 fish and chips main. Disappointed by both. The 4 small scallops came served in a huge bowl. At $6.50 per scallop they were certainly making a killing on this dish. Out came the fish and chips, with...grated cabbage slaw. One greasy and heavily battered, average piece of fish, with some chips. This did not even pass the pub test. Looking around at my colleagues meals and their comments were aligned with mine.More

In Brisbane on holiday for a few days and the Alliance Hotel Pub was recommended by the staff at Holiday Inn Express as a nice place to get a sit down dinner. The wait staff was very friendly, got us seated and drinks right away....I had the Chef's Special - Medium Rare Steak Sandwich with fries and shared grilled vegetables and a side of mac and cheese. Delicious sandwich and a large portion. There was a variety of vegetables, nicely grilled. The mac and cheese came in an iron skillet, was hot and bubbly. This is a great neighborhood pub for a sit-down dinner. From this Chef's perspective, worth a visit.More

Popped in for a bite while in Brisbane for a couple of nights on business, & dining at a table for one. Greeted & seated by a very professional and cheerful staff member who was helpful and attentive throughout my visit. The pub itself is...a cracker - if the walls could speak as they say. I was keen to try the oysters but none available (delivered on a Wed apparently). So straight to the main course. Flat iron steak, mash & brussel sprouts. Quantity = tick, cooked medium rare = tick, but the sprouts were from Chernobyl. Just a tad overcooked!!! Also, the red wine jus was heavy handed and I suspect had some other sauces aside from a red wine reduction to bulk it out. Tended to overpower the beef, which to be fair was good. So could do better in the kitchen and can't be more than 3 stars for this visit.More

Dropped in off the street for dinner on a quiet weekday night. Staff were friendly and the beer was really cold so a great start. The menu selection was small but there were enough options for people of different tastes. Between us, we ordered a...chicken dish and a steak. Good choice on both counts. While my wife did enjoy her chicken i was really pleased with the steak - cooked as requested, just enough sides and a pepper sauce that one just as i like it - all in all - we did enjoy our meal. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone - my only criticism was i thought the cost to be a little high but, maybe, i i do not travel in these circles often enough now.More

I met with a colleague and we had a drink in the front bar. It was lovely to sit at the window and watch the world go by as we chatted. We then moved to the restaurant and were promptly seated. Our waitress checked the...table, noted it was wobbly, and fixed it without asking. We were offered still or sparkling water and provided with menus and a wine list. The by the bottle wine list is comprehensive and we chose a Tasmanian Pinot Noir which will lovely. We were also joined by a third colleauge. Two of us ordered the fish of the day, Barramundi, which was served with some delicious sides. The Barramundi was cooked absolutely perfectly - crispy skin and soft, delicious fish. Our colleague ordered a steak and said it was very good - and he polished off the lot so it must have been! We also ordered a side of greens which were cooked beautifully - still had texture, not over done. We finished off with a shared cheese board which was comprised of a nice collection of cheeses, crackers and some dried fruit. This is the second time I have dined here and been really impressed. I will definitely go back again. Highly recommend this venue for a delicious meal.More

Probably Brisbane’s only genuine gastropub in the global sense of the term. A buzzy corner front bar and a welcoming dining room to the back with sensational food. There are always interesting specials, some classics, some modern twists. All this with warm and friendly service...and interesting wines (thanks for the tips and knowledge Jack). A pub of the finest style. No pokies, no TAB, just stellar service, drinks and food. We’ve been a few times and after last night, reaffirming this as a favourite, there will be many more. Love it!More

There is some parking next door 20 metres away near the pub, a flat walk and safe otherwise as before a small incline. Most days are quiet, Friday can get a little loud sometimes. Regards Nick
