If you are looking for a relaxed but very interesting way to while away a few hours this place rocks. My beautiful wife and I headed back for our second visits recently. The staff (in particular Josh) were amazing ...... he is a champers encyclopaedia!!!. We sat at the bar which we find the most fun as u always meet... More

Love that you can't book. Love the big communal table. Steak and chips best in Australia. Just works so well with a glass of whatever they serving. Excellent!!

What can I say? This place is everything you want a great wine bar to be. Perfect atmosphere with friendly and knowledgeable (yet not pushy) service, superb range of international wines (though still plenty of exciting local options), simple yet absolutely delicious bar food. The outdoor seating area is perfect for a morning coffee or a cheeky glass of champagne,... More

A bottle shop and deli for the sophisticated and discerning - the range is phenomenal but the experience of staff led me to what I was after quickly but with care to understand my request

The fish dish I ordered was tiny and took nearly half an hour to be prepared. Not a place to visit if you are hungry. A good selection of wine by the glass but the prices are on the high side. The staff seemed to know their wines. Unfortunately the place seems to be trying to extract every last cent... More

I had dinner here with a friend who lives in Melbourne and he selected City Wine Shop knowing how I would like it. The menu was great and the food lived up to the anticipation. My friend selected the wine with input from the staff and it was perfect with our food choices. We sat in the back room as... More

Lunch. We had the Risotto and the Waggu Steak (Waggu at this price?). Both perfect. Her Risotto was tasty and refreshing. But my steak was the best medium rare I've had in years. Juicy, tender and what was that sauce. Chips looked soft but no, it was seasoning. a 10. Great service too. Good to get recommendation on the wine... More

Had the opportunity to visit the wine shop in Melbourne. Lovely evening - alfresco overlooking Parliament House. Staff appropriately attentive and sensitive to my being alone on a business trip. Good service and happy to accommodate menu changes. Great wine list too - recommended for a summer evening - especially if you like people watching.

Great gnocchi - very light with wonderful vege (got some lemon to cut through the richness). Lemon tart very good too. Great selection of wine, and knowledgeable staff. 15% surchage on a Sunday is a little OTT - so won't be caught with that again, but will return - just not on a Sunday.

Spent yesterday outside in the (occasional) sunshine enjoying several bottles of wine with family over several hours. I love the fact that you can choose from wines inside at retail prices then consume them for an additional flat rate of $20.00, it makes the experience very cost efficient and you have a great selection to choose from as well as... Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
