We stumbled across this restaurant on a cold night (Good Friday). We waited about 15 minutes for a table to free up. The staff are very attentive and kind. We ordered the set menu as we wanted to try a variety of foods on the menu. The sashimi was fresh, each fish had its own texture. It came with deep... More

Oh wow, great izakaya. A touch of Japan in the Melbourne CBD. Food is great and they even have Asahi Black on tap.

Arrived just before closing and they were happy to give us a table, where as most establishments would often make you feel as if they were doing you a favour. All the staff were very friendly and happy to advise on the food and drinks menu. We were not rushed. The food was excellent and the sake they suggested was... More

WOW!!!! What an experience! Not only was it a enjoyable way to eat dinner but it was also flawless! I couldn't recommend this highly enough. If you're in China town, make sure you hit this place up, you will not be disappointed A+

We had a great sumiyaki and sake experience here but felt like we were being rushed and shoo-ed out by their vigilantly efficient staff.

I didn't feel it's authentic Japanese food. The food was expensive, you kinda expected it's good but turned out really average. Wagyu salad, when u look at the meat you already knew it's not fresh and the taste just not right. Serve is so fast, but I rather wait to have good food.

Impressive. I stayed in Melbourne for 2 weeks for business and have visited this place 4 times over my stay. The service/staff is extremely friendly (Thanks Jenny) and the food is refined, fresh and well crafted. It gets a bit pricey but worth it. I honestly don't think Sydney's Japanese cuisine can match with Melbourne's Shou Sumiyaki. Although the food... More

Yes I am a walk up start for good Japanese food, so I tend to be enthusiastic about a lot of places BUT this restaurant is special particularly if you like meat :-) Went with friends recently and the food was fabulous. In fact the barbecue meat tastes so good you don't need the sauces. We worked our way thru... More

I arrived at 815pm and there were still more than a few patrons waiting to be seated. I decided to wait. I was finally seated at the bar after 20 minutes or so. Since I came here alone I couldn't do the grill so I can't comment on that unfortunately. I had the miso soup, asparagus and corn tempura, the... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
