Returned today for a second visit after meeting friends here yesterday. Their soy chai latte is perfect, no added sugar; just the way I love it. Followed that with a goats cheese and avocado toast, gluten free bread of exceptional quality. Friends had some of the gluten free muffins and could not tell the difference, except it tasted delicious. Today... More

Staying in Melbourne for a weekend and not impressed with our hotel accomodation's buffet breakfast coffee from their Nescafé machines, we decided to go out and try find a decent coffee. Searched on line and found a place, but walked straight passed it - poorly branded shop front, but we did stumble on the Affogato Espresso in Hardware Lane a... More

Popped in for some Sunday Brunch, and I was not disappointed. Had a couple of strong coffees which were good. To eat had the Eggs Benedict and a Croissant - all very tasty. Reasonably priced and friendly staff - unlike the pushy ones down the other end of Hardware Lane. Would defo come again.

The staff were delightful at Affogato, and their menu had a lot of GF options. The chef made me French Toast on GF bread even though it wasn't listed as an option too! The coffee had some great body, there was no art to it's pour, but it tasted so good that we had two! I would head back here... More

This café is so cute and the staff are really friendly! There is a lot to choose from for Breakfast, so much more than the other cafes in the area. What I liked about this place is that they don't hassle you to come and eat, unlike some places a couple of doors down. I had the Healthy Hit which... More

We went back to this cafe, but unfortunately it's not as good as it used to be. No almond milk, so so food and the atmosphere is just not the same.

We deliberately visited this cafe for Saturday morning breakfast based on Tripadvisor reviews. However, we were pretty disappointed. Service, food, attention, cleanliness were all pretty average. Wouldn't recommend this place. In fact we felt that Hardware Lane in general is pretty tired and very dirty. There was lots of litter and cigarette butts on the ground right throughout the lane.... Great place to grab a coffee. Cool street with atmosphere. Great coffee too. Hubby loved the fact that the coffee cups had big enough handles to hold not the poxy ones that you can't hold because the handles are so small.

Thank NZart

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
