Found this great little find, shame we only found it halfway through our stay and not at the start. Great garden bar and atmosphere.

Economical, friendly, good food and service. Service so good that there is a memory of what was ordered previously.

This restaurant is good value for the food. Service is very good and staff very friendly. The alcohol was a little expensive but I guess that is the price you pay in the CBD. The food however was very good value for money and was very nice.

Went here for dinner and drinks and the food was amazing and the atmosphere was really comfortable and relaxed but still stylish. I loved the wine on the way up the stairs. The lobster nachos are amazing!

My daughter did her research and ended up picking Slate for her 21st Venue. We were invited over one evening to have a look around and sample the food and wine which was a pleasant surprise. On the day they allowed us to go in earlier and set everything up and the staff were extremely helpful. I've never actually seen... More

Met friends there for a few drinks and something to eat after a long day at work. Was a a Tuesday night and only the upstairs bar was open and not overly busy...as it's still cool this time of year, we sat outside on the lounge under the heaters which were a pleasant temperature. Bar staff were warm and welcoming... More

Limited menu- but what I had (the ravioli) was very nice- and just the right size. It was never clear to me whether we were to expect table service for drinks however- so they do need to improve on that.

We found this Restaurant by chance , whilst staying close by in William Street. We booked for dinner, the pasta and burger were fantastic but the service both us and the other customers received was exceptional. We were so impressed with Slate we returned the following day for breakfast, it did not disappoint. Highly recommend this Restaurant whist staying in... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
