Lucky to get a table by heading in early. Great service. Interesting choice of dishes. All we tried were excellent. Not large meals, but all very nice. Great atmosphere. Very popular spot. Worth visiting.

Finally managed to get into MoVida for a meal (last time we tried was told it was a four hour wait for a table). We can see that its reputation is well deserved. Food was very creative, superbly cooked and tasted fantastic. Being tapas style we were able to try lots of different dishes and there were all brilliant. Highly... More

We didn't have a reservation but managed to get a table... our waitress Nikky was excellent! We tried everything on the tapas menu and they were all amazing especially the smoked eel and king fish. It was so good to see such a varied tapas menu instead of the tired meatballs and calamari rings! Highly recommend!

Found this place through my Lonely Planet. The street is already great but this Spanish tapas restaurant is just awesome. I only tried the tapas - small portions but so delicious. Try definitely the Croqueta!

This was a truely outstanding restaurant experience. The food, wine, service and general ambiance absolutely outstanding. You must book in advance but it's well worth the wait. Next time we're in Melbourne we will certainly return to Movida for another foodie adventure. Thanks also to the most attentive and knowledgeable staff.

I heard about his restaurant from others in the Melbourne hospitality industry - and it lived up to the billing! Walked in without an reservation by myself and was lucky enough to be seated at the bar immediately - which normally does not happen. The décor was wood and warm. The bartenders and servers were very friendly and made me... More

We heard all the good things and decided this was going to be one of our restaurants visited on our recent trip to Melbourne. The ambiance is awesome the staff really know their stuff. As for the food...well as close to mind-blowing as you can get. The flavours are intense the cooking methods are no doubt cutting edge and the... More

Description
When we opened the doors to MoVida in Hosier lane, Melbourne in 2003 no one knew what to expect. Here was this little bar on a graffiti covered cobbled lane near the

cathedral serving Spanish tapas and shared plates in a down lit room playing funky tunes.

It's the kind of place you can come in for a beer and a jamon croquetta at the bar and then move across to a table and share a plate of slow

braised lamb, some patatas a lo pobre and down some seriously good Spanish red wine.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
