We had to kill time before our flight back home and wanted to grab some cheese and wine. Overall comment: good but not exceptional especially for the price they ask. More details: We went for a cab sav and chose 4 cheese from their selection. They do cheese by the weight: 9.5$ per 25g which is very expensive! And the... More

Great food and drinks here on a Saturday night. Food was beautiful. Stand out was the scallops and the mango parfait. Great menu so will defiantly be back to try some new dishes. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the service was impeccable. Shout out to Derek who took great care of us on the night

Recently went to Punch Lane to celebrate a milestone anniversary. The staff and atmosphere was superb. The staff were very attentive and knowledgeable in respect to the menu and wines. They described the dishes, tastes and flavours, and accompaniments really well. Their knowledge of the wines to compliment the menu displayed a good understanding of their extensive cellar. The meals... More

Having walked around sightseeing most of the day we came across this lovely place. Not quite appropriately dressed we were still warmly welcomed after enquiring about our attire. The wine we ordered was superb and we watched the team operate in a warm friendly and efficient manner. We did not have food but everyone looked wonderful that other diners were... More

Located in the heart of Melbourne City, the restaurant offers a great range of high quality food and good range of drinks for the visitors. I prefer seafood and the fish of the day was just fantastic! A bit too much tight with the space but the food and location are just perfect! Highly recommend to anyone!

My husband and I dropped in here for the Antipasto platter which we enjoyed for lunch with a glass of wine. We then ate there the same evening before going to a show. The service was great, very friendly and attentive staff knowing we had to be out by a certain time, quiet ambience, great lighting. Would definitely recommend booking... More

Excellent dinner at Punch Lane; we ate wallaby with a good sauce and trimmings. Others ate duck breast followed by bacon ice cream with chocolate pecan torte and I tried Australian cheese from Woombye and Bay of Martyrs. We would recommend all of these. The atmosphere was lively and the staff helpful and attentive.

Having arrived late to Melbourne after a long trip we decided to stay local and close to our hotel. We chose Punch Lane and it just so turned out to be the best choice we could have made! My partner had the fish dish of the day, very fresh products used and cooked very well. I had another dish of... More

My wife booked for us to dine here on our first night in Melbourne in advance from the UK having read all the comments about how busy it gets - great forward planning. It is certainly a popular place, and no wonder given the excellent food they serve up. Great wine selection and ambience too. Just one 'warning note' -... More

Quite an all nations wait staff, Kiwi's, French and Australia. Atmospheric wine bar with good service. We had scallops and croquette for entree's. For mains the flounder and duck. We had Billecart champagne by the glass and Granite Hills Cabernet and Domaine Leflaive chardonnay for the mains. Overall a good experience but not cheap with mains at $43 and $44.

A Melbourne institution now in its 22nd year Punch Lane is situated at the Paris end of the CBD near Parliament . We are also in the theatre precinct and perfect for a pre/post show bite to eat . glass of wine or a plate of cheese . Our food style is Modern European with Australian overtones , there is an extensive range of wines by the glass as well as an array of beers and spirits . We are house in one of the original CBD police stations as we where situated in the heart of the red light district of the time . We also boast the original chairs from the Southern Cross Hotel which was the home of the Beatles during their Australian Tour . We look forward to seeing you for a relaxed lunch, a glass of wine or an intimate dinner.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
