Punch Lane has an OK selection of wines by the glass and an good list of bottles. Recommend this place for a group that wants to choose a nice bottle or two. Punch Lane has a well-advertised cheese board selection. We went there with a dinner focus and found it a 6/10 experience only. Mains (snapper and wallaby) were pleasant... More

We stopped by Punch Lane on a Thursday without a booking (after our primary target for dinner was closed for the holidays) and managed to snag a table on the sidewalk. Amazing service throughout. Excellent charcuterie board with in-house produce and a local cheese board along with a venison tartare made up our entire dinner. While enjoying our meal we... More

Just had a delightful lunch at Punch Lane restaurant and wine bar. They have a great wine list as you may imagine and an excellent selection of cheeses. The chef had prepared me a special meal before I came in, in order to meet my dietary requirements, which I had recorded when I booked. Wow! I was planning to just... More

Early dinner before the theatre at Punch Lane was relaxed, delicious and the perfect prologue to the show. Two of us enjoyed a cocktail each, choosing three entrees and a salad to share rather a traditional two or three meal, with a glass of wine each and coffee. The entrée dishes - charred salmon served cool, seared scallops served warm,... More

I have been her many times with friends and work colleagues. The place is always good and the wine selection is fantastic, cheeses are great. Never had a meal but only ever the cheeses and small dishes - always great. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Easy to recommend to friends, this place is cosy and cute!

Punch Lane promises a lot and over delivers. A comprehensive wine list including a great array of wine by the glass, beers and eveything a good bar can offer. The food is exceptional with extensive choices to suit any palate. It's tasty, refined and balanced with flavour depth and beautifully plated. Situated in Little Bourke, it's at the top end... More

We ate here before Christmas. It was wonderful. Lovely friendly staff and a great menu. Loved looking at the racks of wine around the restaurant and particularly enjoyed the cheese menu with its suggestion and taste. Very relaxed but high quality

We loved Punch Lane. Great food and service, metro vibe. We eat "tapas" style and the menu worked well for us. Lots of interesting mains too. Don't miss it!

Went for a simple dinner without expecting much and was taken by surprise by the quality of service, friendliness and food. Recommended wine (SA Shiraz 2012) was exactly as promised, food was great - fresh, delicious, not covered in rich sauces that take the flavours away. Good presentation. What was meant to be a simple dinner turned out to be... More

We were staying at the Larwill Studio and had eaten (breakfast several times and dinner once) at the adjacent excellent Smith & Singleton restaurant. Impressed by what he had cooked for us, I asked the chef, Andrea, for his advice on where (other than Smith & Singleton of course) we should go for dinner. His choice was Punch Lane and... More

A Melbourne institution now in its 22nd year Punch Lane is situated at the Paris end of the CBD near Parliament . We are also in the theatre precinct and perfect for a pre/post show bite to eat . glass of wine or a plate of cheese . Our food style is Modern European with Australian overtones , there is an extensive range of wines by the glass as well as an array of beers and spirits . We are house in one of the original CBD police stations as we where situated in the heart of the red light district of the time . We also boast the original chairs from the Southern Cross Hotel which was the home of the Beatles during their Australian Tour . We look forward to seeing you for a relaxed lunch, a glass of wine or an intimate dinner.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
