Tiny place opposite the Marriot Hotel on Lonsdale St. Has a great choice of delicious Sri Lankan curries freshly prepared daily including a vegetarian option for around $8. For this you typically get basmati rice, dahl, 2 vegetable curries and a papadom. A selection of pickles is included if you prefer it spicy. The food really tastes 'home cooked'. Seating... More

I’ve going to the Curry Bowl for more than 10 years. If this (101 Lonsdale St near the corner of Lonsdale and Exhibition Sts next to the 7/11) little hole-in-the-wall (it IS tiny) was a proper sit-down restaurant I’m sure you’d be paying much more and probably getting less. Much loved by nearby public servants and Telstra workers, I don’t... More

The curry bowl on Elizabeth street which is now closed was a much better run food outlet, it was cleaner and was organised with a plentiful amount of food ready to sell. This version shows that the owners need to pay attention to their business. Staff who don’t know what days they will have certain products, no customer service inclination,... More

We have been here for about 8 years and it has tasted fantastic every time, never disappointing us. Recently they closed due to the Myer redevelopment and are no longer in Elizabeth Street, however they are at 101 Lonsdale st and 530 Little Collins st. Our personal favourite things to eat are the eggplant, dhal, chilli beef(only at 530 Little... More

We had just a little time left for a quick dinner before the evening show. We came along the curry bowl by accident and tried it. It was really good. Nice food, nice prices, quick and friendly. Large curry dish with coke 11$.

Reasonable prices for delicious food. You can either choose to sit in or to take away. The portions are enough if you are hungry from walking around the CBD. The sauces, rice, meat and vegetables were fresh everytime we went there. Go there and enjoy!!!

Couldn't resist the samoosas. Would have liked to have a plate of curry as it seemed to be very popular, but didn't have the time. Next time for sure.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
