We loved this place so much....the food was absolutely delicious but what made it even more special was the way the Chef Phil interacted with us when he cooked. We loved all the tricks he did. The service was spot on and whilst it's a little on the more expensive side, it was well worth it.

We were visiting Melbourne for Hubby's 50th birthday and came across Ginza Teppanyaki Restaurant while walking through and experiencing Melbourne's Chinatown. What A Find! The food was delicious and abundant, our chef was friendly and entertaining, and the service wonderful. The prices were more than reasonable for the quality and the amount of food received, and we would have been... More

The service is good and the food is terrific if somewhat expensive. You will often have to book although I have visited without making a booking first.

We had an entertaining chief, the standard egg challenge was a treat and a ball of laughs. The chief definitely topped the night, staff were friendly and attended to all of our needs. Food was very yummy! Would recommend.

3rd night in Melbourne and wifey had been pretty good at restaurant choices so far so let her chose again. Chinatown she said, Japanese said I, so we compromised and went for Genji in the heart of Melbourne's Chinatown. Booked just in case but turned up 30 minutes early and was accommodated just fine. Limited but standard set menu options,... More

Hi Rkyprian, Thank you for your valued feedback and please accept our sincerely apologize for your unpleasant experience on the beef dish. The beef we use is Angus reserved eye-fillet which should be tasted juicy and tender with right temperature and cook time. In order to achieve that, we have requested our chefs to cook beef to medium or medium-rare... More

This place is a family paradise. Great food and service. Simple decor and fit out but the whole experience was a delight....including sharing a table with a holidaying couple from QLD! Highly recommend.

It's old school service, old school fit out but I love it. The food is fantastic and the chefs are great fun. It's very priced compared to some others. The chicken is so good and the staff are really friendly. My only gripe is some time they speed through the service/games to get you moving on which I can understand... More

The art of Teppanyaki orginates in Osaka 200 years ago and has become extremely popular with gourmets around the world Teppanyaki, which is Japanese barbeque style seafood, quality fillet of meat, etc - presented unprepared and the chefs skillfully display their expertise on the hot plate in front of you. Your meal is personally prepared to your requested taste.

Ginza Teppanyaki located at 139 Little Bourke Street, Melbourne (China Town) was established in 1995. We continue to be one of the impeccable restaurants in the Melbourne CBD. High qualities of food and chefs' superior skills has attracted many regular customers and overseas tourists. Unlike other teppanyaki restaurants, we use cast iron as grill for cooking. It boosts the iron intake which is essential for maintaining energy levels and helps to strengthen the immune systems. We welcome you to come if you are looking for ice-breaking interaction with our teppanyaki chefs and a dinner that covered with joy and laughter.

Our restaurant can cater for a party up to 200 people. Functions we have catered for including end of financial year and Christmas celebrations, bucks and hen's night, school excursion, anniversary, birthday and many special occasions as requested by our customers.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
