Terrific Japanese place that thankfully doesn't follow the vogue of sushi places. More like a local town restaurant than a fancy designer joint & all the better for it. Great selection of dishes to suit all tastes, veggies, carnivores, young & old. As with most restaurants in Japan, photos of the dishes help make selection easier. The slightly haphazard delivery... This very popular (it would pay to book) Japanese Restaurant on the corner of Hepburn and Wellington streets has good food at reasonable prices. The concept is the sharing of small plates $5 -$12, awesome Sushi rolls $10, Sashimi plates start at $8 (for 5 pieces of Salmon) and go up to $28.50 (for 15 pieces of Yellow Tail). The... More

Ate here with son and grandson and all of us enjoyed it very much It serves a wide range of small and medium sized dishes so is best handled by ordering a lot and sharing Good Sake and beer range and BYO wine. Service OK Not a lot off atmosphere but good food and family friendly

we arrived for a table for two on a Tuesday night, no reservation but basically a half empty restaurant. we were told we were only aloud 45 minutes on the table which was annoying but we had no choice in the matter. sat down not more than two minutes later were asked for our order (hadn't even had a chance... Nishiki is a good Izakaya style Japanese food restaurant. That means you drink and you order food for the table and you share it as it comes. Good atmosphere, adequate service (they're just working holiday visa waitresses studying English during the day) and the menu options are good standard Izakaya fare.

I've been taking friends to Nishiki for the last 15 years and found the food consistent and the atmosphere great. If you have children go early and pick your evening as it is a very popular restaurant and can get very loud. The sashimi and sushi is always excellent and there is a great selection of dishes which are designed... More

Went there on a busy Sunday-evening. Total chaos and they hardly understand English. Four meals arrived at 4 different times - one was burnt and not eatable. Took us quite an effort to get it finally changed. We all were glad to leave this place at 8:30 pm, because we had to many crying Babies with hopeless parents around us.... More

Group of 4 of us came here before heading to vector for a concert. Food was so fresh and delicious, throughly enjoyed our dinner. Loved the fact you can order and share the meals, quick service, this place does get busy so booking is advised.

We love Japanese cuisine, and have been to so many Japanese restaurant in NZ. Nishiki is definitely the best one! When we used to live in Auckland, we went there every month. We moved down to Wellington a couple of years ago and Nishiki is our 'must go' in Auckland! It's a pity that the Japanese restaurants down here aren't... More

It was a very noisy restaurant but the service was fast and the food was good value and tasty. We were disappointed that we couldn't split the bill, which made it difficult for everyone to try and pay the person who paid the bill - people don't have cash now and bills need to be split. It's pretty standard practice... More
