Beautiful setting among wine barrels. It was a Monday and the restaurant only is 2 other tables in. We started with the artichoke cream which came with bread- this was beautiful! Both my bubbles and red wine were lovely. Our mains came out and my...husband’s duck confit was spot on. My main was venison short rib on some roasted potatoes with a fruit sauce- the meat was super dry- to the point where I ate maybe 25% of my meal. No one came to check on us during the meal and when the waiter came to take the plates at the end he could see that I had hardly touched the main. I told him that it was dry and he took it back to the kitchen. As we went to pay our bill we could hear the staff discussing my returned dish in the kitchen. The front of house lady offered me 50% off my main! I hadn’t even eaten 25%. My response to this was to decline and she spoke to her boss who agreed to take it off the bill. If you are going to be charging $40+ for a main it needs to be spot on.More

A special occasion called for a special experience, so we went to Verde for lunch. we , being a foodie I had very high expectations and was expecting something really nice. I have to say that we were blown away by the the quality of...the food and service at Verde. The meal was by far the best meals I have eaten in Hawkes Bay. The taste combinations and diversity along with outstanding mouth watering flavors were nothing short of exceptional. The service was exactly what you would expect in a restaurant of this quality, quiet, at tentative and very professional. I would without a doubt recommend to all.More

We had an awesome lunch at Verde! The beetroot salmon was the outstanding starter - extremely tender and tasty, our mains (venison rump and scotch fillet) were both ordered and delivered medium rare, very tender and tasty. The raspberry cheesecake was the outstanding desert, cheesy...but light enough to be consumed after a big meal. Well done team in the kitchen! This is all accompanied by good Church Road wine - what can go wrongMore

A delicious lunch, wonderful service, we were extremely well looked after by Anne Charlotte when having lunch here on a wet Wednesday. We enjoyed a three course meal with delicious Church Road chardonnay. Can thoroughly recommend having lunch, but would be wise to book as...the restaurant is very popular, we werevery lucky.....More

Verde is very local as we live just around the corner and visiting has been long overdue. We arrived and were quickly taken through the new normal CoVid protocols and seated at our table. We were offered the option to sit inside, outside on the...porch or in the green field in front of the restaurant but the menu options sitting outside are more limited so we sat inside to have the full Al La Carte menu available. The wait staff are attentive and efficient and once we were seated they bought water and took our drinks and meal order. We had the Tapas sharing plater as a starter. It was ideal for two hungry people and was a great way to start a meal, the pate and the polenta in the tapas were the stars of the platter but everything was fresh and it just worked together. Following that my wife ordered the Chicken Roulade and I had the fish of the day. Both dishes were beautifully presented. The chicken was moist and packed with flavour. The fish, gurnard, was cooked to perfection, and the accompanying fresh vegetable really complimented the meal. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is very pleasant with wine barrels surrounding you and a good spacing between tables. The meal portions were excellent and we both left fully satisfied. Highly recommend a visit for lunch with a glass of exceptional Hawkes Bay wine or a beer. We visited in a Friday around 12noon and they were just starting to fill up. We didn’t make a reservation and were able to walk straight in without any problem. I’m guessing if you arrive a little later that calling and reserving a table would be recommended.More

Wow, we popped in late afternoon for a wine and a chill out. What a great decision! Considering how busy they were, the staff were absolutely fantastic, we got a table right by the main entrance, and the wine started flowing. We decided to order...the “picnic box” for 2 adults plus an under 5. It was perfect. Filled rolls, beautiful patisseries, and a small cheese board selection. We could’ve asked for more. Sunshine, great views, glasses of Gwen Rose and our beautiful picnic. We’ve definitely found our new hangout place for summer, and can’t wait to bring our friends along. A lovely waitress even brought out some lollies for our son…what a lovely gesture!!More

Great lunch after our wine tasting. We had a lovely time. Thanks to Charlotte, Becky and the team we tried the Marzemino wine, which was delicious and worked well with the lamb and beef mains.

Unfortunately this place has taken a significant turn for the worse in recent times. It used to be amazing, but now it is the absolute pits in terms of food and service! We had a group of roughly 10 outside and ordered 3 platters ($57.00...each), a cheese board ($45.00) and 3 kids meals. Drinks were fine and were provided straight away. Although the hot chocolate we ordered was 'forgotten' and not provided until we asked 3 times. The food was an absolute debacle and of a very poor standard. The platters were something that was emptied out of jars and containers, not what you pay for! Very poor selection and nothing what they used to be....for $57 they are simply not worth it. We had to wait over and hour for the platters and even then they could not provide them at the same time. They were delivered over about 30 minutes which is very poor on their part. After a 45 minute wait for kids fish n chips we were told they had run out and could only provide fries, no apology! No mention of a refund despite the difference in price. The ladies bringing out food had absolutely no idea what they were doing and often brought food to the wrong group. It's a real shame as we got married here 12 years ago and are regular visitors. But NEVER AGAIN. THIS VENUE IS A DISGRACE! Since this visit we informed numerous friends and family about our experience. They were equally shocked, but it seems to be developing a reputation of poor service and food quality. Avoid everyone....you will only be disappointed!More

Haven’t been here for two years and won’t be back. Service would have been woeful if there had been any, after being seated and our order taken we were ignored for 1.5 hours and had to leave the table to ask for another glass of...wine. Plenty of disinterested staff doing not much. There are much better options in the Hawkes Bay.More

Returned here today same time as last year for my birthday lunch and I was very disappointed with the platter for $57. Last years platter was far superior, today’s was very basic. Great venue shame about the food especially when you were really looking forward...to it.More

Friends birthday lunch and it was so disappointing we even asked to speak to the chef, so he knew. He listen to all our complaints and replied "I back my team" seriously you run a restaurant not a race horse. One of diners was also...sick the next day, probably the under cooked shell fish. Super bad experience with no proper apology from the Chef and many more complaining when we were paying. Definitely not at the level I and others are used to from Church Road Winery - the new chef doesn't care!More

After a very warm welcome, we were escorted to to our table at the head of the barrels in the hall. A perfect setting for our anniversary lunch. The wine tasting was fantastic; the quality of the wines and the knowledge of the staff presenting...them was superb. We added the extra special Old Tom. The food was fantastic; we had the duck and beef eye fillet. Both cooked to perfection. We accompanied these with a glass of champagne and the MacDonald Syrah. Perfect. On top of all this fine food and wine, was the absolutely fantastic service we received from the staff. Our every wish was catered for. It was a pleasure to wine and dine at Church Road and we look forward to booking again on our next visit. Such a pleasure to enjoy great service. Can't wait to come back.More
