I traveled with a bunch of friends (group of five) so we drove our way around. However, from where you are staying, most likely they have tours that pick you up from your place too. We did agrodome in the morning, love the farm animals show, the tractor ride where we can interact with the animals. If possible you have... More

It had been 40 years since I had last visited Rotorua it was my favourite place then and although it has changed with many more eateries and shops it is a great place to visit with much to do

We came to Rotorua for a relax and not to spend a fortune on attractions, done that before. So our aim was just to wander around, great coffee places, love the new tidy area down by the lake and instead of spending money on attractions, we bought shoes and the like. Lovely to see the spring flowers out.

Plenty of touristy stuff to do. Every activity to do has a price which could be pricey if you do them all. Locals are friendly. And we love their hot pools. Dislike-smell

It is hard to top the south island. Rotorua is not as pretty a town. It is a tourist trap for Maori villages and seeing the geysers and mud pools. If you have been to Yellowstone, you will be disappointed as this isn't on the same scale. Plus everything is privately owned and expensive. We thought the highlight of the... More

Rotorua is one of the most beautiful towns in NZ, it has loads to do and see. But alas, the locals let it down, so aggressive, people hanging around asking for money, fighting, night life is intimidating, gangs, rude and loud swearing with disrespect for the elderly and children around, locals dropping rubbish and live smokes in the street and... Learn how to be a satisfied customer by visiting Hennessy's Irish Bar. Authentic Irish, inside building is awesome with all things Irish, brass and wood and antique bicycle. Very cool outside serving area, 3 tables for smokers on opposite side from non smoking area. Fast and friendly, attentive service. Food was more than sufficient. Wife had daily special of fish... Went out for our last night in Rotorua with my family and thought the menu looked good. It was a terrible night. We dined outside-very dirty! The high chair was not clean and I had to ask waiter for a cloth. The waitress/waiter were away with the fairys. Drinks came out in dirty glasses, asked for water several times and... More

Almost every aspect of this area is based on tourism and the dollar, but even so it's not worth missing.
