Delicious fresh seafood in a warm environment. We could have had takeaways but met up with some other lovely people in the caravan so we ate there.

Delicious fresh local cod and bluff oysters. A must do for lunch and dinner. Best fish and chips ive had. Cod is so yummy as are bluffies.

The small dining area outside, or inside are nice places to sit if you fancy a snack, and they offer a take away service too. I sampled the Blue Cod in batter, which is an extremely nice fish when it is cooked well, as it is here. Staff are also extremely friendly.

KaiKart meals are cheaper than those served at South Sea Hotel. This is because it is primarily a "take-away" food place rather than a restaurant although there is some seating available. The service is warm and prompt. The Blue Cod Fish & Chips is divine. At $11.50 (8$ for the fish and $3.50 for a full portion of chips), it... More

We 'splashed out' by buying dinner here one night thinking it would be rather expensive but were pleasantly surprised by the prices and even more thrilled with the freshly caught and cooked fish- just delicious! (burgers are available too). A coolish evening, we managed to score seating inside at the rear of the container length caravan where there are 2... More

Highly recommend for anyone visiting Stewart Island. We went early, on a day when blue cod and fresh oysters were available (their board tells you what's coming in so we knew in advance when the cod was arriving). We sat inside the small trailer and watched the 2 gentlemen carefully prepare the food. The oysters were deliciously juicy, tender and... More

We had high hopes for Kai Kart after all the rave reviews on Trip Advisor and the place itself is so cute and inviting. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The battered fish and mussels were overcooked (there was no grilled fish) and the "chicken" burger very bland. The panko crumbed chicken seemed to be a processed patty deep fried... More

Ate inside this small trailer size restaurant talking directly with the chef as he prepared a wonderful seafood chowder of local ingrediants including blue cod, green lipped mussels and oysters. a wonderful lunch on a cool rainy day while talking with fellow travelers, a mother and son from Germany and a local New Zealand couple.

We has heard excellent reviews about the Kai Cart, so decided to give it a try. We were hoping for blue cod but by 6:20 in the evening it was sold out. We ordered oysters, terakihi and chips. I liked the oysters and chips but did not enjoy the terakihi. The next day at lunch time we got blue cod... More
