Anniversary dinner so got the table upstairs in the corner by the window. This place has 3 setups - standard NZ pub, cafe dining and upstairs restaurant. Recommend upstairs for dining. Not an extensive menu but some good options. Had the pork belly and lamb rump. Both pretty good. Pork was delish but not the best bit of meat. Pretty... More

On a cold day were made to feel very welcome. We were able to watch the Trackside racing channel while we enjoyed a very tasty bar lunch.

Well this is rural NZ. Large portions, on the plus side awesome wine pours! The food was generous but average. Presentation needs some upgrade, definitely 90's (steak stacked on whole potatoes, with a mushroom on the top) Muscles were great, desserts were huge. Good on you Whanganui!

Would have given an excellent rating if the pork crackling was crunchy! The other three that dined thoroughly enjoyed their meals and each of us tried the others and none disappointed. Great atmosphere accompanied by a lovely sunset and awesome service. We will be back

Unusual in that our starter came out after the entree, Not sure if this is usual but it was a bit unsettling.when our entree of scallops arrived and we mentioned out bread starters we were told they were still in the oven and wouldn't be long. I would have preferred them first. When they came out we were eating our... More

Three people, each having a different food choice, and every plate was top class. Great service, very relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful view of town and river. Has to be one of the best.

This is a review for the upstairs restaurant - the hotel also does bar food. Upstairs the views of Whanganui town centre and the Whanganui River are very special. You can see these from most tables but there are a few tables right by windows that are special. If booking ahead ask for one of these. The food was good... More
