A lot of places try to be quirky but it feels forced. Not so here, it is truly unique from the space to the way the staff dress. It still feels like being in an old cinema. But the highlight was the food, brilliant slow...More

It was like stepping back to the 1930's eating at Avalon. Live Jazz music, a great feel and buzzing ambience. Fantastic short but adequate menu with something for everyone. Had a thoroughly enjoyable meal and night and would definitely return again and recommend!

We visited for dinner on Friday night hoping for the good experience we'd had around 10 years before on another family visit. Wish we hadn't re-visited now as it sadly didn't live up to the memory. The service was really slow and the food was...More

Booked relatively last minute with few expectations. Fantastic Ambience / amazing Art Deco furnishing. Jazz Dacquarie Band Playing - brilliant. So few live music venues in Sydney. Food and wine good - and well priced but Ambience the winner of the night!!

Description
Set in the historic Savoy picture theatre building, Avalon Restaurant & Cocktail Bar at Katoomba combines playful art-deco charm with hearty food, friendly service and spectacular Blue Mountains views. Located on main street Katoomba, enter the historic Savoy picture theatre foyer and make your way past the ticket booth and up the stairs. The restaurant inhabits the dress circle of the old theatre, and offers a decor of quirky retro finds and spectacular mountain views over Leura and the Jamison Valley. Meals are prepared in the old projection room, and cocktails and retro tunes are served in the former refreshment lounge, now a cosy bar complete with roaring fireplace. The art deco architecture is complemented by an eclectic collection of furnishings and artwork. The style of service is casual and friendly. Licensed and BYO wine.
