Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As day leaders for our village walking group we were impresed by the Hook & Glove menu and willingness to accommodate us so booked our group of 20 in for Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed. A warm welcome. A great lunch from the varied...menu and great service throughout. We could not have been looked after better. Our thanks to the team at the Hook & Glove for a memorable lunch experience.More

Thank you so much. We're glad you enjoyed your visit. SatNav in particular does tend to take people on a rather peculiar route, and our country lanes are a bit confusing, but next time you come, just ask and we can provide a printed sheet...More

Met up with some friends for a delicious lunch - smoked duck salad with proper chips. Beautifully presented. Staff were very friendly and obliging. A super lunch.

I enjoyed a very hearty lunch at this traditional 1870s village pub ( & would love to know more about the name).Good plain food as my old dad would have said. A big slab of local proper quality pie with a generous serving of vegetables,so...rare nowadays. For sharing!More

We're so glad you enjoyed your visit! The name refers to the local industry, (still in being in the same family), of cutting spars for the many thatched properties in the village and surrounding area, and also for hurdle making for sheep. The large glove...More

Found this pub while we were on holiday staying in the new forest. Very pretty country pub tucked away in a small village The restaurant is nicely laid out with plenty of space to take dogs The menu is limited with a good selection But...if like myself you have to be careful what you eat it doesn’t give much choice The cod was not available which was a shame, perhaps make provision for busy service The waitress was very helpful and the proprietor seemed to be doing all the cooking which was on view for everyone to see Overall a nice meal not outstanding The pub seems to be popular with locals Compared with other pub meals reasonablyMore

So disappointed, after reading other reviews I thought it would be good, unfortunately it wasn’t. The Sunday dinner was below average, gravy which resembled bisto…no seasonings…tasteless and bland. Two mains and two drinks £48! Don’t make the same mistake I did!

Found on Google as a place to meet up with family, they from Somerset us from Hampshire. Friendly welcome, served with drinks in good time, ordered & food was delivered to our table with a smile in nice time. We had different dishes & all...were superb. The Steak Pie & the Chicken,Ham & Leek Pie were so light & extremely tasty. Plenty of veg, nice to see Broad Beans, Broccoli, Carrots & Brussel Sprouts, all cooked to perfection. Battered Fish was meaty & the batter light, lovely . All served with the most delightful Chips. Must say it was an excellent meal & plentiful. The Chef came & had a chat, nice to discuss the meal. We were very early so the Staff had time to be able to chat. Will certainly go again should we be in the area. Do try it, you'll enjoy.More

Booked Sunday lunch for 2.30 couldn't do later as they stop serving food at 3pm even though the pub closes at 6pm. I ordered beef, which was very tender & tasty however the veg consisted of Broccoli, baby carrots & broad beans, which were tasteless....The Yorkie was past it's best the same as the roast potatoes. They had obviously been kept warm in the oven so you needed a hack saw to cut through the hardened potato skin, really disappointed, especially as it cost £15.50 a head I believe. So make sure you eat early when the food is freshly cooked.More

It seems a bit ‘out of the way’, but from Salisbury (A 30), just go straight through Pitton, and in Farley go past the handsome church to this smallish pub with a quite spacious dining area, with pictures by local artists on show. Friendly, attentive...service bringing delicious food: we had roast lamb (tender and good gravy, and one lady had the ‘smaller portion’ - quite adequate!), but could have had roast pork. I had game pie, not one of those individual ones, but a generous slice of a proper large pie - you get more, juicy meat - with delicious sauce, chips if you want them as well as veg. Good Lister’s (Sussex) bitter - it’s a free house. For afters we shared a generous slice of chocolate fudge cake with ice cream, and we each were given both spoons and forks to eat with, (tho’ the flimsy paper serviettes could be improved on). Recommended.More
