About
Just a few steps from iconic Prague Castle, the Strahov Monastery Brewery is hidden in a beautiful and historic monastery founded in 1142. Master brewers have been crafting amazing beer here for more than 600 years, and we are proud to continue the tradition. Since the year 2000, we have been brewing Saint Norbert beer at the monastery, and opening the doors of our brewery restaurant and courtyard pavilion to beer lovers from around the world. We named our beer after the founder of the Premonstratensian Order, who have inhabited the Strahov Monastery since the beginning. We brew more than 25 delicious beers at our brewery, using the finest ingredients and brewing methods. And we haven’t forgotten our heritage. If you love beer, your trip to Prague won’t be complete without a visit to the Strahov Monastery Brewery and a glass or three of Saint Norbert beer.

This looked to be one of the main restaurants in the Strahov Monastery. It was close to the entrance by the road. It looked like the two buildings are for the same place but just different places, 1 for the brewery and the other for the restaurant. We entered the one on the left first (brewery) but was led to the one on the right (restaurant), presumably because we had a toddler.
The restaurant was fairly large and open. There were about 8 large tables in the hall. There were also table outside. We were seated at a table and given both drink and food menus, which were in English. The staff were friendly and it was fairly easy to get their attention when required. We ordered a few things to share as well as a drink. They also had a seasonal menu which we took advantage of since it had roast goose. The drinks were tasty and the food was also quite nice. Portions were a bit small but it was nice. The goose was a bit different since it did have an interesting flavour. A nice place to stop if you were visiting the monastery.

We went around 4:00 p.m., despite being crowded, there were more seats and we sat in the second hall, the beers were amazing, the goulash and pork schnitzel were really delicious. The waiters were smiling and joking all the time, even though it was obvious how tired they were. If you go at unusual hours, you will have a good experience

Great atmosphere and really the best kraft beer in town. The staff is polite, the kitchen is good and the brewery is a good choice for a short break during a walk around the neighborhood. The location is very convenient and accessible both on foot and with the trams that stop behind the monastery.

Very rude staff - brews were nice but did not feel welcome. We sat at a table and the barman shouted at us. And then proceeded to verbally abuse us until we moved outside. We then had to wait 25 minutes for menus to arrive, at which point we politely refused and left.

Went here with my partner as we were travelling this area and it was a good choice. The service was excellent, we ordered soups and they arrived in minutes and they were delicious. The prices are good considering the quality and location. I would recommend this to anyone visiting this area of Prague - it is a lovely restaurant. We had a bald waiter and he was very helpful and efficient.

The restaurant is located next to the Strahov monastery, initially the monks produced beer there, now the management is private. Unlike most places in Prague where smiles don't reign supreme, the staff is extremely friendly and outgoing. The prices are extremely competitive with the places in the tourist center and the quality of the dishes is also excellent. Generally there is always room (it closes at 10pm anyway) there is no need for a reservation, even on Easter days I had no problems, being as I said, located in a non-central position. Excellent beer and at reasonable prices, as are the dishes. I recommend it easily. Greetings to the staff of nice girls and to "My friend" 😅

We visited this establishment several times as we were staying at the adjacent Lindner hotel. It was terrific each visit.
On our first night in Prague we wandered over and enjoyed several different styles, all very good to excellent.
We enjoyed a sour ale which was lightly smoked and delicate. Very nice and not too sour. The IPA we tried was decent too, even though the Czech Republic is better known for Pilsner. The dark lager was exceptional.
We wound up returning on a busy Saturday night for dinner and drinks. Our party of four eventually grew to a party of eight, and without missing a beat our server Barbara delivered world class service. She was charming, and agile, leaping about the raised dining platform delivering plates and glasses with the grace of a gazelle and a winning smile. A true champion!
We enjoyed everything from ribs and beef filet to salads and goulash. Everyone left happy and prices were great.
The location itself has a classic European abbey-style beer hall as well as a smaller pub type area, and decent sized outdoor dining area. We found it charming and all of the employees exceptionally pleasant.
We will definitely return the next time we visit Prague.

Great food. If you get the pork knuckles get the fried - not the boiled one. Nothing beats fried pig skin with a little salt.
Local beer was great, and good service despite all ourdoor seats taken. would go again on next visit.

Visited as we were staying nearby
I thought the food was nothing special . The goulash was very salty and the 4 bits of meat in it were chewy. We asked for tap water and the waitress bought a bottle. We had to repeat we didn’t want bottled water and she came back with 2 small glasses of warmish water. I had to go to the bar to ask for ice. We had to wait a long time for the bill after we requested it.
All in all not a great experience . The bread and dips we shared for starters were ok. We won’t go back.

We came across this wonderfully warm place late in the day after climbing all over the Castle and surrounding sites on the hill. We sat outside, despite the wind. We ordered drinks and a charcuterie platter, as all tourists should when they are tired and lost. All I remember was that the food, drink and service were good and that we laughed and laughed and absolutely LOVED our English speaking waitress. After 90 minutes we finally got directions back to the tram and made our way down the hill STILL laughing and happily loving Prague!

"Not approved!"
After we placed our order, we waited a long time for our food and drinks to be served. When they finally arrived, we had to wait even longer for our silverware. It took so long that our food became cold.
My order was goulash with dumplings, but the onions were missing! I had to wait even longer for the onions to finally be brought to my plate. By then, my dish was completely cold. Nevertheless, I tried to eat because I was really hungry. The meat was so tough that it was hard to chew, and the fibers stuck in my teeth. It was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had!
To make matters worse, they offered their homemade beer while badmouthing my beloved Budweiser Budvar and Kozel. No way! I tried their "homemade stuff," and it was a disappointment all the way through.
There was one more issue: the waitress was playing with the guests' dogs. That's okay, but she should have washed her hands before serving food to other guests. She scratched her head several times, then intensely scratched the fur of other dogs before serving the food. I don't know about you, but I found it very unappetizing. For my part, I was really disgusted.

While exploring the Strahov Monastery and nearby Prague Castle, we stopped at the Strahov Monastery Brewery for lunch and drinks. In addition to enjoying a cold glass or two of the locally brewed Saint Norbert beer, we thought the food ordered was quite good considering the tourist nature of the brewery and restaurant. The schnitzel and potato salad that I ordered was quite tasty and the prices were reasonable. Outdoor seating in a courtyard is offered during the warmer months and you are likely to share a table with other visitors, but this made for some good conversation.

After walking from downtown Prague up the steps to Prague Castle and back down to Vegan's Prague (my daughter is Vegan), my other two kids and I decided we wanted something else. We walked back up the hill to the Monastery Brewery. It was our first time in Prague and recommended to us by Chris from praguetransport.
I'm glad I made the climb.
We were still a little "meat and potato" deprived from our time in Rome, so my son ordered Svíčková, my daughter Chicken Schnitzel with potato puree and I had Pork Schnitzel with potato salad.
That potato salad was FANTASTIC. Oh...and the kids gobbled up their food too.
The food and beer gave me the energy to finish the climb up to Petrin Tower.
I think it's a "must do" if you're in Prague.
I see a lot of other people mentioning the wait time and service, but we just walked right in and got seated. It was early afternoon on a Wednesday.

After visiting Prague Castle, we went to this brewery next to a monastery (we only found it with the help of GPS).
The restaurant is quite popular. The food is good, without being special, with affordable prices.
As a main course, we had pork knuckle for two people (420 CZK).
They have excellent beer (mug priced at 84 CZK).
After lunch, there is a very beautiful walk to the river.

My twin brother Stephen and I decided to drop into The Klasterni Pivovar Strahov on a really hot May afternoon,it's a brewpub we've been to many times over many years of visiting Prague.
I love the look of this brewpub, housed in a brewery building over 700 years old, shiny brew vats prominently on display ,a cool looking serving bar ,pubby decor and furnishings and lots of bench seating both inside and outside in their courtyard, this is were we chose to sit after ordering a pale ale style beer from St Norbert's Brewery.
My beer was really good ,a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee,a delicious aroma and aftertaste and very easy to drink,it was just so good being in such a great brewpub enjoying a quality pale ale in such a great location.
We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time.
Klasterni Pivovar Strahov is easy to locate in the Strahov Monastery Complex.
Opening hours are;
Monday to Sunday,10am till 10pm.
Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
