worth the visit

We went on recommendation from a local amazing tattoo artist who said you must try, he was not wrong. Possibly the best meal we have had in our two visits to this lovely city. Make sure you are hungry as the food portions are very generous and the value for money is very very good. Also try their lemon vodka you won't be disappointed. I have read other reviews that say the staff are rude, all I can say is they must have gone to another restaurant as all the staff we encountered were happy and very happy. People also commented on the wait time if they had bothered to read the top of the menu it states there will be a wait time. Overall well worth the visit and on our return in the summer months we will be back.

Best recommendation!

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local taxi driver. It was an absolute gem. This restaurant is obviously very popular with local people, as we had to queue for a table but absolutely worth it. It is located with a view of the castle and the atmosphere has a wonderful 1930s feel. We enjoyed a fabulous meal included huge meat skewers, which although one served per person, could easily be shared by two. The food menu has a wonderful choice as did the drinks menu. Naturally the obligatory cherry vodka was free flowing. We were even serenaded by the lovely live music trio on the violin, cello and accordion. All made for a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Good place to eat

Well what a cracking place great atmosphere great and polite service and great food . Prices are very good 2 meals,desserts and 1&1/2 litres of larger as they serve in litre steins for £29 well worth a visit . Will definitely recomend to anyone in krakow.

Fantastic atmosphere, poor food

A giantic restaurant with tons of atmosphere. Unfortunately the food was substandard arriving less than 5 mintes after we ordered. Ok for a beer and a snack, but would not recomend using a lot of effort to make a reservation (needed) and have finner there

Nice place for traditional Polish food

We visited Pod Wawelem as it was suggested to us for traditional Polish cuisine. Everything we tasted was nice and tasteful. As I have an allergy to peppers, I asked for a plate without, the waitress suggested me one so I ordered it. It turned out to have paprika pepper in, so I had to return it. The sweet waitress felt very but about it so she offered us free desert and cherry liquor. The service was a little weak, but we appreciate all the service we got, as a compensation for the mistake made by our waitress. It is worth a visit, as the food Is delicious!

Had dinner here one night, very busy with a very loud jazz band playing which made conversation impossible. Main course of steak arrived whilst halfway through starter and was just put on the table instead of being taken to be kept warm. Second time was unbearable. Full of stag parties all shouting and banging tables pkus the manic jazz band still playing. Food ok and cheap prob on par with a wotherspoons. Wouldnt eat here again due to the noise and chaos, so many lovely restaurants in krakow to eat in.

Worst dining experience I have ever had. It took 40 minutes to order our drinks after being ignored by staff members we tried to speak to. Our starter came out 5 minutes after our main which arrived 1 hour 15 after we initially had sat down. People who were sat behind us and arrived 40 minutes after us received their food first. The food was to a poor quality and not good value for money. At no point we’re staff available to complain to. This was an extremely disappointing visit. I would not visit this restaurant again and would recommend people to stay away.

Wonderful tavern

Wonderful restaurant (actually more like a a tavern) with very delicious traditional polish food. We had done in menu restaurant and the food here was incredible, huge proper polish portions , amazing selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. The place is huge host over 400 people and consist of 4 rooms , it’s unbelievable how busy it is and considering polish food to die for the prices are super cheep , definitely anyone that is visiting Krakow has to go for lunch or dinner to this place !!!!

Very disappointing

We visited here on our last night in Krakow following the recommendations of a number of friends who had visited before. We were seated quickly but that was the only positive of the evening. when we initially tried to order we were told that the starters that we wanted were not available and neither was the main course that my partner had wanted. While he chose what he would like instead the waiter was very agitated and rude while waiting. 10 minutes later the main courses arrived with a different waiter and we explained that we hadn't yet had our starters. He appeared confused and took the main courses away then a few minutes later appeared with the starter we had ordered. Before we finished our starter the waiter who took our order came and brought our main courses back to the table. These were clearly the same dishes that had been brought out to us earlier as the potatoes and mustard on one of the dishes has begun to harden on top. We tried to query this with a member of staff but the dishes were put down quickly and the waiter walked away and it was impossible to get the attention of anyone else serving in the area. I had a chicken dish and because it had been sat under heat it had dried out to the point that the edges of the chicken breast were tough. We ate what we could and then had to wait about 20 minutes to get the attention of a lady in a white uniform (I assume a supervisor) to ask for the bill. Her response was just cash or card and off she went, we then waited another 10 minutes for the bill to arrive and had to get someone else's attention to ask for it again. At no point did anyone ask about the virtually full plates of food on our table or how the meal had been. Eventually the waiter who took out order came and gave us two shots of flavoured vodka asked cash or card then went off to get the bill and card machine. Again no question about how the food was and no willingness to engage in a conversation with us. We were so disappointed that this was our last experience of eating out in Krakow as everywhere else had been fantastic, both in terms of the traditional food and the service provided. We will definitely be giving this place a miss when we visit next time.

Food nice but very POOR service!

Visited this place based in the good reviews. The staff were extremely rude and it came across that they did not care about their jobs, they were simply there to serve you a dish. They didn’t have 2 bottles of wine we ordered on the menu and then we had to pay a lot more for a bottle of wine than we wanted to. When staff cleared our plates they didn’t ask how the meal was or give any indication that they cared about the food they were serving. The food was nice but we were very disappointed with the service. We wish we hadn’t spent our final evening in Krakow here as feel there are plenty of other restaurants that are much better!

Excellent food and atmosphere

This restaurant has an excellent atmosphere and the food is very good, with very generous portions. We visited on a fairly busy Monday evening, but the service was very slow. The staff are young - very pleasant and helpful, but there are just not enough of them. Certainly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, but recommend that you allow a few hours for the full experience

Auful! Stay away!!

Worst experience ever. Never had such bad service. The host give us to sit in the entrances of the restaurant. Said that inside its all reserved even that in our hotel we have been told you can’t make reservations. We sat 2 hours and 3/4 if the table were empty. So disappointed. We have been waited 45 minutes for katcupe and mayo, and then we got tiny mini plate (a size of a nail) for six persons. The waitress even didn’t understand what the problem with it. In the bill they charge us 4zl for ketchup and 4zl for mayo!! Shame!!! Then we tried for 10 minutes to get a waitress for ordering a bottle of coca cola and got tiny bottle hot like hell. All the waitress are dark and gloomy. Don’t go there!!!

Knowing this place was often busy, I booked for 3 people in advance. We were quickly shown to our table, menus came promptly, then things slowed up as more and more people arrived. We got our drinks, and put our orders in - only top be told 5 minutes later that 2 of 3 dishes weren't available. So we reordered, and waited. The food arrived, though it wasn't very hot, as if it had been hanging around for a while. The large schnitzels were also dry, as it they'd been cooked earlier and just warmed through. We were going to order more drinks, desserts and coffees, but after waiting for 20 minutes to get a waiter's attention we just went for the bill instead. The problem is simply: not enough staff. Disappointing overall.

I visit this restaurant every time we come to Krakow as you always know what to expect. The service is not always great, which you can easily overlook based on what you get for your money. Overall this place has become synonymous with Krakow for us and we are always happy to return. Great place to enjoy a few beers with friends or family over a nice heavy meal.

Good Food, Good Beer, Good Service, Good Price

Found this place by accident so decided to give it a try. We had the Monday night special schnitzel (large portions) and drinks 88 zloty (5 to £1) really good value for money. The staff were very friendly roviding good service. Would go back again
