About
Welcome to Terv Presszó! Located in the heart of Budapest on Nádor utca since 1954. Originally created as a local neighborhood cafe/pub, the Terv Presszó later became the local hangout of writers and artists. The "presszó", once ubiquitous in Budapest during socialist times, functioned as something between a traditional cafe, a cukrászda and a pub. Such places are disappearing from the Budapest scene and the Terv, along with the Bambi, the Ibolya and a few others, are carrying on the "presszó" tradition. Now a cafe and restaurant, the Terv features a full bar, serving beer, Hungarian wines and cocktails. We also offer traditional Hungarian food like Goulash served in a bogrács, chicken paprikás, and beef stew served with homemade dumplings, salads and Hungarian desserts. The Terv Presszó is proud to be one of the few surviving neighborhood pubs in the 5th district, catering to locals, tourists and CEU students who enjoy a bit of Budapest nostalgia. Come visit and see our collection of original art and artifacts from the 50s, 60s and 70s! Open every day from 11 am. We close at 10 pm weekdays and at midnight on Friday and Saturday. Reservations and walk-ins both welcome.

It is cozy place with friendly stuff (who spoke English). We ordered beef stew with potatoes and pork with fried potatoes. Food was very good. There are around 6 main courses, so not so much choice. Also, it is not a place where you can have romantic dinner (tables are close to each other and very noisy, because it is usually full of people).

We reserved a table prior to our family trip for the first evening based on reviews and proximity to Sofitel hotel Chain Bridge. Glad we did as it was busy at 7.30 and full of local young and old. Very nice welcome attentive service as when needed. No starters ordered (Glad we didn't as mains were ample size). Local pork stew, Beef and chicken dishes ordered and younger member decided on burger. All of these dishes were very tasty and excellent great value for money. Check out website for menu and prices. You can just go for drinks and nibbles if desired. Terv Presszo has great staff, ambiance and homely feel with interesting decor from the past. We would totally recommend a visit any time of day during any stay in the area. Thank you guys for a great start to our trip to Budapest.

Greeted by friendly servers on unbooked lunch for two. Inside is unpretentious but with character, and our goulash came in metal bowls filled to the brim. Tasted just great and one of of struggled with the portion size! In hindsight we could have shared just one bowl for a lunch, if possible, but result was that we did not need any large dinner later in the day. Agreed upsold to a large glass of wine each, and bill still came to around £24 for two. Good value for what we got, and enjoyed!

Stumbled on this place just after lunch time and stopped had some soup (delicious) and a few beers. A fantastic traditional place, a great find. The service was great and a good price as well. We booked a table for four that evening. Again the service was fantastic and a very friendly atmosphere. The food came out in a very short time and was piping hot and absolutely delicious. A fantastic old authentic bar/restaurant with great service and delicious food at very good prices. If you go here first I bet you will go back, We will.

This place feels like a 50s-style American diner, but they serve traditional Hungarian fare and beer. Lots of neon, old music, and quirky décor; the food is warm, comforting and affordable. Highly recommended!

Came here on Friday at August 2022. Ordered one of the veal dishes. The waiter said that "all the veal dishes are in the stop list". 0_o It's friday evening ? Ok, nothing to do i took chicken soup and meat plate. I asked her how many degrees was in the belgian fruit beer - she said it was usuall beer. So it was only 1.5%, instead of normall 4-5%. But the cherry on the top was the thing that i ordered another beer, just in order to finish the meat plate, waited for 20 min asking every 5 min - "maybe you forgot it ?", finally cancelled the beer, left the meat plate untouched and left the place. It's a pitty you have no choice but to tip for that terrible service

We came here for the hortobágiy (Hungarian pancake filled with minced meat) and were surprised by how big the dish was (it's on the menu as an appetizer but we thought it could've easily been a main course - great value for money). We also got the Brassói pork stew. The staff were lovely and we really enjoyed sitting here for awhile. They also played Disney songs the entire time we were there:)

We had a booking and the restaurant confirmed the booking. We walked in and the waitress was extremely unwelcoming saying she didn’t have our booking down. When we showed her the confirmation message, she was still dismissive but told us to ‘just sit anywhere’. Menus falling apart. Sat for 10 minutes and nobody acknowledged we were even there so we left. We have been to some really lovely and welcoming restaurants very nearby however we certainly would not recommend this place.

We came across this bar on our first night in Budapest and for the following three nights we returned. The staff are excellent, attentive, friendly and helpful. The food is well priced and is tasty traditional Hungarian food in good sized portions. We have had an excellent time here, enjoying everything we ordered. Thank you to everyone. We will hopefully return in the new year.

Incredible service, great ambiance and authentic and delicious home cooked food. Between us we’ve been to Budapest many times and this was by far our favourite restaurant of all. To start we had the cheese plate, pancakes, goulash soup, sausages and garlic cream soup. We couldn’t fault any of it. We all had the chicken paprikas for our main. The sauce is so tasty and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Most importantly the staff were amazing. So attentive and so friendly. It would be at the top of our list of restaurants to return to!

We came across this restaurant by chance, and we were positively surprised by its quality. The restaurant offers traditional Hungarian food at very affordable price. Goulash was delicious as well as beef stew. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend to visit the place for authentic Hungarian experience!

We went to eat in this restaurant. Our friend recomended us this restaurant. We had jokai bableves it was terrible, I know jokai bableves because we are travelling to Hungary a lot. I never had this kind of bad dinner ever in Hungary. We paid over 40 Eur, not worth it. If they are offering hungarian food they should know how it looks like and taste like. I will never visit this place again. It is a shame to do business like they do.

Dined here our first night in Budapest. Chose it because of it’s proximity to our hotel and it did not disappoint. Hungarian food. Started with a cheese plate which was large (enough to to share). Goulash was good. Salad with chicken was good but some of the chicken was very salty. Service was friendly. If you are in the area it is a good choice.

This quirky restaurant is great. Staff made us very welcome, recommending authentic hungarian food and drink. We returned 3 times, good background music, great decor. If you can, make a visit. Very affordable, very enjoyable.

We went there after reading some good opinions. The food was really bad and dissapointing. We ordered the cheese steaks, they were completely artificial. The cheeseburguer was mainly a big bun with a small hamburguer inside. Please, avoid the place. For the same prices you will find better options.

District V / Inner City
Discover the Inner City along the banks of the Danube, with its fashionable shops and iconic buildings. The Inner-City Parish Church and St. Stephen’s Basilica stand out as two of the finest examples of architecture in the area. If you are still hunting for more historical treats, then the ruins of the medieval city walls on Kecskeméti Utca are a must-visit while the Soviet War Memorial is also worthy of attention and relevant to Hungary’s more recent history. If shopping is on your itinerary, then be prepared: the market squares in this area are an absolute delight, particularly during the Christmas period, but even throughout the year you’ll find the latest trends in the shops on Vaci Utca.
