Is it a bar that serves food or is it a restaurant that has a bar ?....whatever the service was good at the front desk and at the table , the food was a good standard and decent value for money ...would return

Great atmosphere and very friendly bartenders. Drinks are a little pricey, but good. Nice selection of craft beer. Really good raw bar.

This place always delivers. Fantastic attentive server. Great shrimp from the raw bar and crab cakes. It doesn't get better than J Pauls in Georgetown !

This is a big, classic American bar with very balanced brunch, lunch, dinner and pub fare. My wife and I had dinner and enjoyed our selections from the special Valentines prix fixe 3 course menu. My wife had Curried Mussels- nice size shellfish with well flavored broth, NY Strip and Hot Lava cake for dessert- which she enjoyed with plenty... More

Stopped by for lunch while shopping in Georgetown. Unfortunately it was the most disappointing meal of the weekend. Service was mediocre. Hamburgers were under cooked and low quality.

We had a brunch here with friends for a birthday. I loved the atmosphere - nice brown colors, and in particularly the bar area looks stunning. The food was OK - I was not the biggest fan of their menu options. I had the Mason-Dixon plate with 2 poached eggs, ham (mistake because I chose the shrimp option, but oh... More

A wednesday night, a few people in the restaurant, crab cakes were perfect, wings a bit too dry, mashed potatoes average.Waitress said there was no creme brullee and gave us the receipt. The first time in my life I felt pushed out of a restaurant. I was here a few times a few years ago and it was excellent. What... More

I had dinner here during a business trip. Decided on this venue over Old Glory....had already been to OG in the past (very good BBQ by the way). I had the crab cake sandwich with traditional fries - the fries are addictive and delicious. The crab cake was great as well. What frustrated me was that the bartenders were offering... More

I just stopped in for a snack I got a half dozen oysters ... Chesapeake bay, wonderful, fresh and firm. They had a great menu, if I was hungrier, I would have for sure had more to eat. Drink and a snack was for sure fantastic!!

Enjoyed my delicious salad with tuna and oysters on the half shell! The restaurant remained busy despite the nearby bombthreat.

J. Paul’s is Washington’s quintessential turn of the century American Dining Saloon. The J. Paul’s bar in Georgetown is itself a 100 year old mahogany shotgun bar, built by the Brunswick Balke Coolander Company and was previously housed in a grand saloon in the Chicago stockyards. Many will swear over their scotch that Al Capone himself bellied up to that very bar. Antique brass elevator doors from New York’s Waldorf Astoria frame the back dining room.

A few short blocks from the Potomac River, in the heart of fashionable Georgetown, the original J. Paul’s has become an institution. Every day, politicians, journalists, artists, business people and Washington personalities share tables with students, tourists and ex-Pats in the nation’s capital. Don't miss out on a visit to this DC institution!
