on Jan.10th we were invited by a lovely Audrey to visit the establishment she works for and we did. We ate delicious pasta with shrimps cooked like, alas, rarely found, and divine eggplant parmigiana. The music was lovely and just the right volume not to interfere with our sharing our comments about the food! (an american man born in Belgium of which we think kindly.) The experience was well worth the slightly higher price range

Hubby and I went for a dinner last night in this off the beaten track Italian restaurant. Good directional signs from the crossroads on Hicado Avenue. Was surprised to see an a lovely well designed pretty garden restaurant ( under cover as well) (and I didn’t get bitten) they had a country music singer playing which set off the ambiance.
We shared a starter which was nice and a small pizza both of which were tasty, attentive pleasant staff both in the bar, kitchen and waiting table.
Cost for one starter, one pizza and 6 beers came to 103 bzds, (beers being 60each)
We enjoyed our evening and the food, perhaps we won’t drink beers next time to keep the cost down.

So far I have enjoyed 3 excellent meals at Il Pellicano. Gorgeous setting with a beautiful garden area - definitely a step above what I have seen in other places on the island. The brunch menu has a range of offerings from Eggs benedict ( YUMMY!) to fruit, pancakes, etc. along with a selection of fresh squeezed juices. Very well priced and good portion size.Having just travelled to Ticino and northern Italy recently, the dinner I ate at Il Pellicano could easily hold its own against anything we enjoyed in Europe. Service was attentive but not in your face, which I appreciate. Having live music while we ate dinner was another treat. This restaurant is close to the centre of town but far enough away that the sounds of the main area are not noticeable. I would highly recommend this restaurant, - it truly is a gem .

Thank you for the in depth review and the positive post. This means a lot to our staff as they work hard to provide our guests with the best experience we can offer regarding, quality, service, cleanliness and ambiance. Your time for doing this post is very much appreciated....

Nice atmosphere and music but unfortunately the food is forgettable. Negronis tasted watered down, lobster bisque was small but delicious and lobster pizza was underwhelming. I ordered the veggie pasta dish and asked to add shrimp for an additional cost. The dish was big but bland and not what I would expect for $46. Unfortunately we won’t be back as overall the food is average and doesn’t match the price tag.

I enquired about your charge. Apparently you were told the price to add the shrimp. If you weren't, you should have been told. We want to make sure our guests understand any added costs from special requests. If you weren't happy you should have asked for the manager as our policy is to make sure everyone leaves happy. We get so many repeat customers that are very satisfied that it is hard for me to change how our food is prepared. We import most of our ingredients from an Italian distributor in the USA. This is not an inexpensive venture! We do this to ensure the best quality that we can buy. It is difficult to please everyone so I am sorry you didn't enjoy yourself.
I wish you would return and identify yourself so we could offer you another try.

Ambience is incredibly romantic and nice, wine was great, but unfortunately the food wasn't good. SO many great reviews so naturally we were disappointed. I had the pesto pasta and am a big fan of pesto. This was major pesto overkill by the chef...while I didn't send it back, our server removed it from our bill since she could tell I barely had any. My husband's pizza was just ok, which is hard to do to pizza. Not sure if we would give it another try.
Live music by Gregory is always a nice touch...he's such a treat to listen to. Ambience, wine, music, YES! Food, not so much.

I had a filet of snapper That Sounded better on the menu than on my plate. The preparation amounted to a little tub of butter, like lobster butter that I dipped the fish in. The preparation of fish can be simple and yummy but this meal was boring. The small salad that comes with the fish was also uninspired. There was nothing wrong with the meal but nothing memorable either. If the meal delivered what the reviews promised then the price what have very reasonable but the meal was not close to the best dinner I had on Caulker or Cayo so if money is an issue you might want to pass this meal. The service was uniformly excellent. It was the meal that fell short.

We didn't have a reservation, but they let us sit at a table with someone else who also didn't have a reservation – because it was really busy. It was worth it - amazing food and the live music was just right – perfect mood – not too loud. The food was amazing – my daughter and I both ordered a pasta, and it was perfectly made, and oh so good! The dessert was amazing as well. Service was great!

Yikes. This was an extremely disappointing meal, and those who left a 5 star review probably think Olive Garden is real Italian. Seriously- this was the most disappointing meal I’ve had my entire trip. Sautéed shrimp was extremely bland, chickpea gratin had POOLS of butter to make up for the lack of flavor. Bucatini was over cooked pasta and tomato sauce that tasted canned. Literally no other flavors. Just tomatoes and mushy store bought pasta. Finally, and where I really really really lost any respect for this place- the panna cotta was a flan with a double espresso on top. That’s literally not what a panna cotta is.
Gross. I came because of all the positive reviews but truly even the service was inattentive and slow. I would’ve been better off getting a burrito from the lady w the food cart down the street for $7belize instead of $70 Belize for a meal I wouldn’t have fed to my dog

This is our second time eating at this restaurant. Once in February 2021 and now in 2022. Both times on a Saturday night at 6:30 pm. Avoid the hand sanitizer, it was something mixed up in a spray bottle that left my hands smelling like mildew. Probably had bleach in it?
Both of us were disappointed with the main courses both times we dined there. This time, I had Osso Bucco that was good but pretty chewy, the roasted potatoes were excellent as was the salad. A shrimp fettuccine dish listed as a white wine sauce tasted and looked like it had chicken broth in it. The chocolate lava cake was very good. And artfully displayed. The Pinot Grigo was very good. At $20 bz a glass it better be good.
The outside atmosphere is fabulous and the music is good and far enough away so as not to be overwhelming. The service was good, except that my left over Osso bucco and potatoes that my server insisted be boxed in the kitchen, got thrown out. Oops. Guests should be allowed to box up their own left-overs. My server apologized but offered no compensation. I should have asked him to comp my glass of wine, but they were very busy and we had waited a while for the check as it was.
The food prices look reasonable until you learn that a hefty tax is added on top. Other places seem to include the tax in the price of the food.
I am sorry to say that we will not likely give this a third try.

No ocean view but this venue makes up for being on the interior of the caye with the lovely landscaping. Greenery and flowers make it seem like a beautiful garden, cool after a hot day at the beach. There was light music playing and later on, a guitarist came and provided excellent entertainment. On a particularly windy night, this was a wonderful place to be.
The service was very good, especially the meal which arrived promptly. I would recommend any of the seafood or pasta/pizza dishes. We tried the pesto snapper which was served with a fresh side of vegetables and greens, the shrimp fettuccine and the pasta bolognese. The house appetizer plate was also very good. No one left hungry.
There is a good selection of wine and beer. If you are looking for inexpensive street food, this is not the place, but we paid as much for a meal elsewhere and got less.

Il Pellicano is the best restaurant on Caye Caulker. I have been going to Caye Caulker for 20 years, and this restaurant is the gem of the island! I took my future husband to the island in March 2019. We had dinner at Il Pellicano and both agreed that is where we would have dinner the night before our wedding in August 2019. We went with our officiant and our photographer/maid-of-honor (who were the only attendees) for a small rehearsal dinner. The tropical elegance was the perfect backdrop for our celebration! Once the owner found out what we were celebrating, she sent over desert to cap off our wonderful meal. Our server was a delight as well. The wine, food, desert, staff and ambiance combined to create an evening we will never forget. We returned a few days later, after our nuptials, and were greeted by the owner. She asked all about the ceremony and the staff all greeted us, and asked how it went, as well. Truly a delightful experience. We will return to Il Pellicano every time we return to the island.

Very good food. Took my family of 5 and had a nice dinner in a relaxing but upstyle atmosphere compared to most restaurants on Caye Caulker. The vegetables were fresh and the atmosphere felt like we were truly in a luxurious place. I ordered a steak and asked it be cooked Medium rare and it was cooked medium well, but that wasn't a show stopper. I did find it a lite expensive for the Island and thought the prices catered to a more elite tourist. Prices were what I would have paid in the US. Good quality food though

The “ribeye” isn’t ribeye; it’s either top round or chuck pot roast. There’s literally no marbling (fat), it’s tough, chewy, and hard to eat. But it’s a pretty good chuck or top round. The chef does a good job with it, but the restaurant should just call it what it is instead of mislabel it on the menu.
My guess is Il Pelicano has good intentions, but they’ve been fooled by their beef supplier. Innocent mistake on their part. It was embarrassing, though, because I spoke highly of their food to a friend and it was awkward when the “ribeye” was leather-like.
Great staff and service. Beautiful ambience. The Il Pelicano cocktail is good.
Belize has excellent ribeye, btw, like at The Running W farm. Their Tomahawk (Cowboy) ribeye is better than most in the States. Seriously. Not sure why Il Pelicano doesn’t just order real ribeye and then charge folks $55 or $60 BZD to maintain a decent profit margin. It’s weird. Good service, though.

Sorry you didn't enjoy. We get our steak from Running W, so I don't know what to say as it is their ribeye. Been buying from them for years. Might have just been a bad cut??

Ate here twice - once for a nice date night and once late at night for drinks with friends. Both times were wonderful- highly recommend if you like high end Italian food, good wine, great service, quiet environment where you can hear each other talk, and great live music. Check this place out - you will not regret it! Wish this place was closer to our home in the U.S.!

The atmosphere at Il Pellicano is spectacular and the service is wonderful. That said, the food was not good. We had the fish special and the piece of fish was terribly under seasoned and just bad. Our other dish was gnocchi with Gorgonzola and honestly the sauce tasted like a jar of Alfredo sauce with a bunch of black pepper added.
We didn’t complain at the restaurant; I mean, what do you say about flavor and seasoning?
Overall the experience was nice, but the food is just not good. I wish it had been, but alas, that is not the case. I’m rounding up to 3 stars because the property and service are lovely; if I were rating food alone it would be 1 Star.
