You can't go wrong at the National. One of my favorite bars, just because the atmosphere is good (it's small, but a great place to wait for your table). Also, though the menu changes, the food is always good.

We also offer full menu service at the bar and on our patio! There's no shortage of great spaces to eat and drink in The National. Our bar also remains open between lunch and dinner with tapas available.

My favorite in Athens. The farm to table entrees are always great and so is the service. Had the monk fish special and was great.

Great cocktails, great food. The staff did a great job of getting us served quickly to make our movie time.

Very good food. I have had the chicken and also the shrimp and grits. It does get a bit loud, though.

We had a party of 8, including family, my graduating daughter, and 4 of her friends. Great helpful service. Everyone loved their food and the beverages (wine, beer & cocktails). Excellent atmosphere for carrying on conversation. Our waitress was very helpful, attentive, and didn't rush...More

The National is one of those Athens, GA restaurants we always wanted to try due to its excellent reputation. Because of its popularity, reservations are highly recommended. From app to dessert we were delighted. The wait staff is cheerful and helpful. The menu is diverse...More

Went there tonight and was extremely disappointed. 9pm so later seating. Sat there for 10 minutes, no server visited our table to take drink orders. The group beside us was so loud, I couldn't even carry on a conversation with my wife. Also, one lady...More

I am very sorry to hear of your experience with us, especially as a guest who has eaten at and enjoyed our restaurants before. Our space is small and lively on the weekends, but we are actively trying to solve noise issues. I hope I...More

Prior to arriving at The National I read the menu on-line. The vegetable plate intrigued me. The small, quaint restaurant did it up well. The vegetable plate had an abundance of color, texture and fragrance! There was more than enough to share, though I really...More

The vegetable plate sure is a star! And it changes constantly as we are receiving different fresh, local produce throughout the year. Thrilled you enjoyed your time with us and I hope we will see you again soon!

I’ve been a regular at the National for a few years now (mostly for lunch...as it is the most affordable then) but also for special occasions. Hasn’t ever disappointed! I’m a fan of the power lunch that changes depending on what is in season—also they...More

We love our regulars! Changing with the seasons keeps things fresh and exciting for those who dine with us often, and we always have a highly gluten-free friendly menu.

Needed a really nice place for lunch; many of the Athens' downtown restaurants do not open until 5:30pm...so, The National advertised OPEN for lunch and the reviews looked really nice. Yes, I do read reviews. More importantly, I like to have referrals from people living...More

Open for lunch Monday - Saturday and dinner daily; our bar also remains open for coffee and tapas during the day 2:30 - 5pm. The idea behind The National is simple: to provide a casual neighborhood gathering spot reminiscent of the bars and cafés we’ve enjoyed on travels to Europe. Mediterranean inspired food and wine is served for lunch and dinner in the dining room and throughout the day at the bar. While our menu points to culinary traditions from abroad, we value our local farmers and our dishes reflect the changing seasons in Northeast Georgia.
