We were walking back from a trip to the market and discovered this place just about a block from my daughter's apartment and the Skytrain. That night we retraced our steps and what a wonderful surprise! From the outside, this place looks like a cheap dive. Inside, the wood beamed ceiling rises to two or three stories! The acoustics are... More

This place was close to our hotel, so we gave it a go. What a top spot. Huge place with a mezzanine level as well as a ground level. Food was genuinely different and the waitress helped us choose some classic Laotian dishes. The Ant Egg omelet was excellent. The special entree gives you four meat nibbles and is good... More

The wife and I dined at this establishment on Sukhumvit 36, for dinner with another couple. Great everyday Thai food which did not cost an arm & a leg with Issan-style entertainment. Ordered the Tom Yung style soup, ant-eggs salad, ant-eggs soup, baked noodles with shrimp, eggplant salad, stir-fried morning glory, Issan sausage, steamed fish with spicy seafood sauce, rice,... Hidden in an old ramshackle like building, not far from the corner of Sukhumvit 36, is Vientiane Kitchen. When you walk into the bldg, it seems like a good puff of wind could blow the place down but step inside and you may be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and generally good entertainment. Although the entertainment may... More

We travel to Thailand for the summer every two years and consider ourselves experts on Thai food and even more so Thai I-saan food (our favorite regional food). Ten years ago we were lucky enough to be taken to Vientiane Kitchen by a lovely I-saan lady. Every two years we look forward to returning. Fortunately for us we met the... More

I am amazed at the negative remarks of some reviewers. Particularly the complaints of this being overpriced. I just had dinner at Vientiane Kitchen. I stuck to Issan specialties, som tam and larb. Actually the menu has a full double-column page on papaya salads alone, but I stuck with the basic som tam with dried shrimp and peanuts. The som... More

It has been the second time in this restaurant, the second birthday I celebrate there and it's really ok: the food is good (but not special), there is live music, the atmosphere is great. You pay quite an high price maybe because of the live music and good service and that is ok too. What is not ok is to... More

After reading a number of less than flattering reviews my expectations were not to high. But I was pleasantly surprised. Crispy pork, crispy fish and Keo Neow were all nice. My wife and her five girlfriends ordered all sorts of stuff that my stomach is not yet ready for - so its difficult for me to comment on how good... More

This is an ahthentic Issan (Northeastern Thai) dining experience with music and dance at night. It is spicy. I have been here many times and probably tried the entire menu. I still like the Som Tam papaya salad and Kob Mu Yang (BBQ pork neck) with sticky rice the best. Generally, this is closer to a street food place. While... More
