Perfect setting by the river. Excellent service. Wide ranging Western and Thai menu. Food was good but not outstanding. However, a great evening in a fantastic atmosphere at a wonderful hotel.

Every time I visit Bangkok I eat lunch at The Verandah. It is a fantastic combination of superservice, great food and an unbelievable environment. From that you enter the hotel you feel an unique atmosphere. When you sit outside you can follow the spectacular life on the Priaya river and at the same feel that the staff take care of... More

We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental and ate at the Verandah whenever we fancied something lighter after indulgent splurges at the other restaurants. The choice of Thai or Internation dishes was welcome and the food decent quality and reasonably priced for the setting. The service is perhaps not quite as slick and the staff not as multilingual as in some... More

We arrived by overnight train from Chiangmai, took a river boat to capture the character of this town. In my mind I have prepared a drop in, aiming to enjoy a drink by the riverside. The hosts found us a waiting area, Whilst a table was prepared- every thing was salubrious, a G&T followed by lite lunch observing the fine... More

Consistently great service and food. Beverages always served very cold. Great spot to sit and watch the Bangkok world go by. Prawn/mango salad just delightful. Unlike previous reviews, beer is very reasonably priced for the best hotel in Bangkok, and good on the hotel for enforcing dress standards. Hostesses very welcoming and polite. Been here 15-20 times, never misses a... More

I have eaten here every trip to Bangkok for almost 25 years, and every time find it consistently wonderful. While there are other types of food offered, I always eat Thai here because they have a fantastic representation of Thai dishes, and I've always left feeling that I had the best Thailand has to offer. The river view and the... More

Great views of the river and all the activity from this place. Don't miss it if you are staying at The Mandarin Oriental or if you are not staying you can still come for a meal. The food was exceptional.

The restuarant is good, however not great. The wine menu is ok, but there are few options. Food was good, but I was expecting more, considering it is a Mandarin Oriental restuarant. The view is terrific. Overwall good, but not espetacular.

Thai people are usually tolerant of each other and even more so of strangers (farangs). So when the waiter at the veranda of the Oriental told us we could not sit at the terrace beyond 6pm because one of us was wearing bermuda shorts (and a shirt) we were extremely surprised. To adopt dress codes restrictions that come from faraway... More

Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
