The restuarant is good, however not great. The wine menu is ok, but there are few options. Food was good, but I was expecting more, considering it is a Mandarin Oriental restuarant. The view is terrific. Overwall good, but not espetacular.

Thai people are usually tolerant of each other and even more so of strangers (farangs). So when the waiter at the veranda of the Oriental told us we could not sit at the terrace beyond 6pm because one of us was wearing bermuda shorts (and a shirt) we were extremely surprised. To adopt dress codes restrictions that come from faraway... More

The location is perfect, overlooking a lively and picturesque river scene. The service is good, although the waiters forgot to put on the lights that would have stopped the local insects from biting my wife's ankles. And the food was a nice series of variations on standard Thai dishes. You go here for the setting. As got the food and... More

We visited from the nearby shangri-la hotel, attracted by the good reviews. We were picked up by the Mandarin Oriental boats at our hotel's pier. Not that some of the reviews that refer to "opposite side of the river vs. the Mandarin hotel" are incorrect (that is not the Verandah but the hotel's Thai restaurant). Location is good but not... We made reservations last night and it was terrible ..please save yourself some stress and a lot of cash! Go somewhere else. Here is why: to start the waitress brought as a very expensive sharing dish that we didn't order, We explained the situation to her but she didn't say anything about it so implying we had to keep it... Dropped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the variety of the menu and the service was exceptional. Our table had a variety of dishes, Thai and western. I had Pork Chop with Fried Potatoes Skin and Salad. The dish was perfect. My sister had beef noodles with uncle and aunt having Grilled Fish and Pork Noodles. The olive... More

Perfect setting overlooking the majestic river. Flawless service. Great choice of informal food, perfectly prepared. Reasonable pricing. Been a regular over three decades. Never been disappointed. Prefer the outdoor tables. Highly recommended.

Wonderful service with 2 dedicated female servers who replaced ice every 5 minutes, choreographed the coming and going of dishes, and repeated each order to verify communication. Service: spectacular. Decor: unbeatable with the passing lit ships Ambiance: super humid and sticky but lovely. Offering individual fans for each table under each table would be an amazing addition. Thank you all... More

Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
