We had afternoon tea in Authors' Lounge. Absolutely fantastic experience: wonderful colonial interior, excellent service, great tea selection etc. Highly recommended

My friend and I spent a lovely afternoon here on a thursday, after booking the last seating 30 days ahead. They tea room was about half full and very tranquil, with a musician playing at the top of the stairs for a while in the beginning. We opted for the Thai Tea set so we could sample the local flavors.... More

We walked over to the author's lounge for tea after lunch at the veranda. The ambience is truly lovely and beautiful. Instagram worthy. Overall, this is a lovely lounge for a quaint, elegant afternoon tea.

We've very much enjoyed the afternoon tea in the writers' room. It is like a time travel and you imagine the young Elizabeth II turning the corner anytime soon. The western tea set is off highest quality and worth every bit. The eastern tea set is full of subtle surprises, deliciously balanced. The service is impeccable and friendly. We loved... More

We had a wedding here 10 years ago and went back from time to time to visit the place. It was very nice as always. Afternoon tea here was good.

My sister booked the family to have afternoon tea on a Saturday a week before and they just managed to squeeze us in for a 16:00 spot. Recommend to book in advance on weekends. Just like the rest of the hotel, the dress code policy is formal wear with no shorts, flip flops or sandals allowed. We knew this from... More

The afternoon tea was just okay. I was hoping their Asian fusion would be better but it wasn't. Most of the items in my set was stale. The traditional set was definitely the way to go. The service tried to be great but they did stick us in the corner and forgot about us. It was interesting to see the... More

This place is kinda crazy expensive (eg, about $AU10 for a coffee) but it is just soooo lovely that I think stopping in is worthwhile. The old building is just beautiful and the myriad photos etc are fascinating. The interior design and furnishings are also delightful - the way the light falls softly in the little enclosed verandah section is... More

If you enjoy a truly elegant, well-done afternoon tea service, then you should definitely make the effort to enjoy tea at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. I have been fortunate to enjoy afternoon tea at many locations , all over the world, but I must say that the Oriental knows how to do it exquisitely. It is pricey, but well worth... More

Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
