This is always my go-to place for an elegant high tea with my girlfriends when we visit Bangkok. Perfect for ending a morning shopping, then sitting in a beautiful colonial atrium with classical musicians playing and a choice of the Thai or English High Tea set, which comes in a pretty tiered tray with choices of small bites. The English... More

After reading about the mixed reviews on the afternoon tea, I decided to venture here to try it out myself. Remember to book a table before you head to the hotel. First make sure you board the free shuttle ferry from the extreme right of the saphan taksin ferry terminal, dont end up paying 40bht for the tourist ferry. Upon... More

My wife and i are very fond of the traditional afternoon tea offered by luxury hotels and on our recent stay in Bangkok we were determined to visit the Mandarin Oriental. The authors room itself is spectacular and the service is the best we have ever encountered, however the price was also the highest ever, beating the Plaza Athenee in... More

We had been told that high tea at the Authors' Lounge, Mandarin Oriental is among world's top ten destinations for such an occasion. We visited the Lounge whilst recently in Bangkok and we were not disappointed. The service provided by the staff was truly professional in every way. A nice spot to enjoy tea any day while in Bangkok! Shopping in the building is also a fun activity there, too.

We had afternoon tea in the Joseph Conrad lounge, sitting looking out a set of French doors. Service was impeccable and decor beautiful. Hubby had the western tea and it looked great. I had the oriental which they made gluten free. The savoury section of this was stunning, def my highlight. Best afternoon tea we have had in Bangkok and one of... More

The Author's Lounge is great and keeps me coming back for more every time I visit BKK. This historic hotel (Mandarin Oriental) was renovated this year and it's better than ever!. It's always a pleasure to get lost in time there during tea time! Highly recommended.

Staying in Silom

Neighbourhood Profile
Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.
