Had xmas dinner and expectedly exquisite overall The full 8 course degustation had gems like their signature uni/cavier. Everything else was very good to great, except the average gnocchi dish. And the petit fours had a surprise egg tart which alas hongkong does much better Service equally excellent The xmas menu cost is the same as normal days whereas xmas eve is double. NYE is quadruple the cost so not for me

Quite often I dine alone when working abroad and Le Normandie has to be the best restaurant I have been to for looking after the solo diner. I am a big foodie and working in the food industry probably makes me quite tricky to please however Le Normandie did so with ease. The tasting menu was incredible with fresh seafood, caviar and a crepe suzette flambé at my table. The service was immaculate and I was even gifted a little Grand Table book to read whilst I enjoyed my meal. I would also like to say that in many restaurants, including Michelin starred, solo diners are often put on a lowly table near the door or the kitchen and made to feel unimportant, however I was given a stunning table at the center of the restaurant overlooking the Chao Phraya. Thank you Le Normandie for exceeding my already high expectations.

We went there for mum's bday celebration last year and it was superb. They service of course was without a doubt michelin star level and they food was so great that my father who usually has no patience for michelin star (slow service) restaurants was so happy that he didnt realise we had spent over 3 hours there. Great food as well of course!!!

Maybe I should have done more research but as we were staying across the river at the Peninsula we thought we would try le Normandie. (10 years ago I ate at their Chinese restaurant and it was super). For us, it was too formal and quite...boring. We decided to have the (longer) tasting menu with wine pairing. It was all presented very nicely, and wine from le Jura region and others offered a chance to try something different. However, the choice of dishes was like so many we have had before. Added to this, I dislike having to keep a jacket on whilst eating (men must wear a jacket and keep it on) and the whole experience was like eating at the Grand Hotel in Eastbourne. Lots of old people talking very quietly.... Not worth the money or indeed the obligation to wear a jacket whilst eating! Following night we went to ‘eat me’ and had an absolutely fabulous meal!!

Excellent lunch on our last day before returning home. An unabashedly traditional Michelin oriented French experience on offer here. Don't expect foams or ferments or dry ice plumes but beautifully presented, technically well handled prime ingredients in dishes of great complexity, depth of flavour and real subtlety. All the trimmings as well..... multiple hors d'oeuvres , petit fours, excellent bread, Normandy sourced butter and a presentation cake on departure. Still finding their feet so not yet perfect.....didn't quite nail the Red Mullet main as the fish overwhelmed the rest of the ingredients and the veal could have spent a couple of extra minutes in the pan but that aside everything else was properly two Michelin star quality, with the desserts as good as anything we've eaten in equivalent three star French establishments. Still happy to rate the food as excellent on balance. The great French weighted wine list is expensive and wines by the glass are no bargain either, but that's Thailand for you. Room has had a modern refurb; the view is terrific and the service is precise and professional with an extremely helpful sommelier. Lunch is good value. We both had the 3+cheese course option; had an excellent 2014 Alsace Riesling at 4000 baht and still paid less in total than an earlier, (actually technically poor) meal at Paste with one beer and one cocktail. Go figure......

Unexpected founding a piece of hair sheep in the main dish. I had a good lunch time until the main dish is served, i saw a small piece of hair inside my lamb. I suddenly informed staff and he took a very quick action by taking the dish to check with the kitchen team before came back to inform me that it’s a sheep hair and confirmed to change for the new dish. I understand that it can be happen and accepted his apologies. Staff service and everything are perfect. However, I’m still disappointed that it is happened for a two michelin-star restaurant comparing to the price I paid.

For the reputation for a 3 star Michelin restaurant, you expect perfection and sadly, our dinner didn’t deliver. We found some of the dishes didn’t really go together; some of the flavour combinations didn’t work in our opinion and overall, the menu wasn’t terribly exciting. It is very old fashioned. Small things like some under seasoning and our soufflé had sugar granules in it which hadn’t cooked through. We were completely stuffed; there was an extra dessert and huge plate of petit fours which didn’t make sense after eating such a full meal. On a more positive note, the amuse bouche were excellent as was the choice of butters, 4 in fact. The bread and cheeses were outstanding and the staff were very friendly. The food was good but for the price, you want it to be memorable.

For more than 20 years, we come to the restaurant for at least 5-6 times yearly either for family special occasions or for important business guests. We enjoyed the ambience a lot and we were always taken care of and we always felt that this restaurant could be always recommended. However this evening we missed almost everything we regularly experienced. All new faces of the restaurant team were strictly business, their courtesy were indeed below standard. We will skip this restaurant for a while until we can hear that the improvement is in place.

I enjoyed my recent lunch at Le Normandie in the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok. The room has a wonderful elevated view of the Chao Phraya river. The restaurant itself is quite small and intimate, with it's elongated shape creating space and privacy for diners. The service was as you'd expect in a 2 star, discreet, professional and efficient. I was particularly impressed with the head sommelier's enthusiam and knowledge. With the wine list extensive, though being in Thailand, on the high side. Perhaps my one disappointment was the inconsistency of the dishes served. I thought the wild octopus entree superb and the mussels with kohlrabi very good. Unfortunately the dishes were disappointing with caviar entree being overwhelmed by the uni and potato. The mains dishes were below standard for a 2 star, with the Loire pike perch quite disappointing with the lamb somewhat better. This might seem harsh but the expectations are high when dining in a 2 star.

Standing gracefully at the bank of the Chao Phraya river, Le Normandie is located inside the historical Mandarin Oriental Bangkok. It offers timeless beauty where we can feel the beauty and the extolling building. The reservation process itself is seamless through the website and also the reservation team was amazing and helpful. However, you need to ensure that you receive the confirmation email as the email is the key and the details on the dress code are inside. When we arrived at the Sathorn Pier, we were picked up by the private boat to the hotel and enjoyed our private boat moment. By the time we arrived, we were directly advised to go to the Chao Phraya Wing for enjoying our lunch. Initially, I was afraid that I got rejected due to being underdressed. However, the receptionist lent me a jacket due to the dress code requirement which is super extra, (remember to use a formal suit for males and an elegant dress for females). The extra service also added the perfection of the service where we enjoyed all of the 2 Michelin Stars meals. The sommelier (Antonnie) was also amazing when advising us on the best wine available based on our preferences. Shout out to Chutaporn and the team who treated us like royalty. It was a perfect moment for me and my mom and we fully enjoy the moment and experience. For sure I can guarantee the 2 Michelin stars experience is worth the price, and also I would like to come back again in the future.

Absolutely phenomenal the food, the service and the ambiance. We enjoyed the degustation menu and it was simply delicious and creative. It takes you through a journey and we enjoyed every course, we spent 3 hours and we didn’t feel the time. You need to book your table in advance. We enjoyed a table by the window and the view was spectacular.

Since more than twenty years in Bangkok this was our bi-weekly restaurant during these years and we contemplated the growth of chef Arnault Dunant Sauthier up to his two start Michelin which was largely merited. After a covid period in last December 2021 the name of Alain Roux appeared and since then we went three time. The first time we went, 3 days after re-opening, was the cuisine deceiving (overcooked, no inspiration); then the two stars earned by Mr Arnault were transferred to the resident chef, working under the umbrella pr Mr. Roux (strange attitude from Michelin), we decided to retry once one month later to confort or not our "feelings" , unfortunately the same overcooking, tasteless and without creativity for a "two start Michelin. Not convinced we mad a last trial yesterday for the appearance of the new "spring menu" . It was the most horrible culinary experience in Bangkok since the 20 years we reside here and would not recommend it to any real cuisine connoisseur or lover. Definitely to avoid, even if the table service and wine choice or pairing is outstanding. Forget this one

Service: outstanding Wine: fantastic Food: ok Often find tasting menus get worse through the courses - some mind blowing starters that devolve into less and less good larger courses. Opposite here: starters and small dishes were fine but not great, but the lamb main dish was really incredibly special. Cheese selection was strong too. Ended up at ฿35k for two. Note they have a very strict dress code in theory but after I complained pre-attendance they let me in in jeans and sneakers and lent me a jacket. It was a good meal in a good setting with excellent wine and service, but not playing in the same league as some of the other 2 star places in Bangkok

This is an amended review as I graded it was average which was on reflection a bit harsh but then perhaps very good is perhaps slightly generous. Quite a number of reviews refer to the previous set up which I have no knowledge of this so I cannot compare. We booked the restaurant at the hotel reception. The restaurant is on a floor of the Mandarin Oriental hotel and looks out to the river. Some tables are by the windows and have a good view, some tables are further in so if a view is important try to book one, I don't no if this is possible but I am sure you can request. We were met at the lift by a member of staff and taken up. We were welcomed and shown to our table. Champagne served and the menus brought. We opted for what I have experienced in the past is called a "grazing" menu but may well be known by other names. You get a number of smallish courses with a wine parring. The food was serviced up with style and a quite detailed explanation of the various items. With the wine the servings were pretty generous. I normally do not like chardonnay, a bit too "flowery", but the one served up was excellent, although that's personal taste. When we booked they were told that one of us was did not like fish and an alternative dishes were supplied, and they also checked they were suitable. Having travelled extensively in France I experienced many evening meals at French restaurants. They treat this as an occasion and not just a meal. This is what its like here. Its an evening and there are gaps between courses. However I would not have called the service in any way slow, its just what I expected. There was piano playing in the background which adds to the ambiance. There is a dress code but there might as well not be. It seems you turn up in what you like and they will give you a jacket. No everyone might not dress as I did, black jacket, white shirt with cufflinks and a black bow tie, although I would not have gone there in anything else. I am not going to describe the various attires some men turn up in, all the ladies were dressed elegantly and smartly, but it did take a bit of the edge of the ambiance. However I guess given the modern way of life money talks and thats all the matters.
