Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic Vegan food that makes you forget that you ever liked eating meat. This place has quite the creative chef! The green mango salad (shredded green mango, shredded ginger, thin sliced green chilies and lime). Just wow! I am a big fan of green papaya...salad but this one is over the top. Also tried the rainbow Pad Thai, Shan eggplant curry, and followed up with a Dirty Masala chai (chai + espresso + almond milk + cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise). Can’t think of one thing to complain about. Great ambience and music too. You can sit in this place comfortably all day and work without being troubled. The prices are above average to high side for chiang Mai. But one bite and I forgot about that.More

Though this vegan restaurant may not look like much from the outside, the inside is comfortable and chill. A relaxed atmosphere with a hippie vibe that reminds me of my college town back home. The staff are friendly, speak good English, and support just causes....The menu (with breakfast and lunch items) is unique and healthy. The chilled water is free. It's a nice place to hang out. Even with the pandemic going, the place became near full during Sunday brunch time, many patrons ex-pats. On different occasions, I had the stuffed French Toast and Cacao Smoothie bowl. Both were tasty!More

This place is so great and with all the small shops is the Perfect place to spend a couple of hours. Even if you are not vegan/ vegetarian the food is delicious and healthy. A lot of people mention the brownie ice cream combo, it...was really amazing. That brownie is made of super healthy things like sunflower seeds, pure magic. I really liked it as I try to avoid sugar and this was not sweet. The drinks offering is really very very good, too many drinks to try. I loved my almond milk mocha. I drink a ton of coffee and I have to say this was the best mocha I have had in Chiang mai. The fact that it was vegan too: amazing. I am very surprised that people find the food bland. Far from it, it was fresh and full of flavour. I do not find the prices high at all as some others have said. The place is beautifully decorated, with quick service and is so clean. It’s clearly well maintained as the seats were looked after and the menus clean and not damaged. I also have to say that these kinds of projects that put money back into the community cannot charge enough as far as I am concerned. Would you prefer to give money to someone who is going to share their wealth or someone who is not? That said 75 baht for a coffee in a restaurant, and local single origin Thai coffee at that is hardly expensive in Chiang mai. The ingredients used here are quality and the range of you care about what you put into your body is worth every penny. If you care about your body and other people then this is the place for you. I bought some fantastic clothes too in the charity shop. Such a great business, we will return again and again.More

People who would come here are looking for something that is not there and would complain right away without even thinking. To me personally, each food was crafted and made with love. I understand the fact that due to some factors why the prices are...that expensive, it is because there is a proper justification for each meal that was being served. That said, kudos to Lisa Byrd and her staff by making this cafe a meaningful cause with all of their efforts. I have known Lisa way back in 2012 and since then I am more than inspired to what she has been doing for humanity and to this I support her 100% in making this goal to help the refugees from Burma. Keep it up ya'll!More

It is actually part of Thai Freedom House – a social enterprise offering education, livelihood skills, and English language skills to Burmese migrants and refugees. You must try their smoothie bowl. Free Bird Cafe is a colorful cafe with peaceful vibe and friendly atmosphere. The...Cacao Smoothie Bowl aka ‘Arinuma Infusion’ contains raw, vegan, organic, wild sourced, superfood cacao, coconut milk, maca, dates, frozen bananas and topped with dried coconut, sesame seeds, mango, dragonfruit, banana, goji berries, and chia seeds. Smoothie bowls are a great way to start your day; however, even the multigrain sandwich with hummus and tomato saute in olive oil Richie ordered was tastyMore

I loved the the decor & the mission statement of Free Bird. I thoroughly enjoyed the little pommy, Luna, & meeting a stranger turned friend from the Weekly Nomad Girls Lunch. I bought some various drinks since they were ones I've never had before. They...were tastier than the food I ordered. The food was bland for the most part - & I'm usually good at finishing everything I eat, but there was no joy/soul in what I was eating. Nothing stood out to where I would go out of my way to come back. I've been to various vegan/vegetarian places & this was disappointing. Even the first bite of the brownie & granola, I didn't want any more & couldn't finish those, either. I felt a bit bad for one of the male employees by the way the owner talked to him for not having the tables cleaned. I believe she could have done it in a kinder & gentler way. Just because they're your "help" doesn't mean they're any less human. That incident kinda killed my vibe as I left. P.S. Maybe you need to stop your spiritual bypassing & go within to meet yourself a bit more. Your interaction with your "student" was a power-trip. His body language where it looked like he wanted to shrink himself, because you were talking down to him in front of a customer (me), told it all. I saw the way his eyes darted to look at me in embarrassment. I know that look & body language because I would watch my adoptive white mother do the same to our maids in the Philippines. You were not perfectly kind. If you were, I would never have said otherwise. Please take care, & I hope whatever your heart & soul needs healing from, happens for you.More

This cafe has a really chilled vibe thats perfect for escaping work. I've been here a few times already and the food and drinks are excellent. The veggie khao soi is delicious, and if you're looking for a good breakfast then look no further.. Their...pancakes are ridiculous! And there's a good range of tasty, fresh smoothies.More

Gorgeous setting, delicious food and amazing preloved shop on site. A real experience for all senses plus the payment goes to charity which is incredible. I wish more places like this existed back home as I would be there all the time!!

the tea leaf salad was bad and the taste of the curry was really so so the cacao smoothie bowl was very good but overly expensive. The bowl costs 250 Baht at free bird and would cost about 140 Baht at another hip vegan place...in town. Not sure what to think of this cafe.More

We sat at the outside patio - was quite comfortable and relaxing! Food wise, I had Khao Soi and my husband had Shan noodles. Loved that the noodles were healthy and not too heavy on the palate. Had some bagels to go too, which tasted...great! No regrets visiting!More

I came here because I was craving a smoothie bowl and I really needed to get some homework done at a place close to my yoga studio. I was shocked to find out that they do not allow laptop use! This is ridiculous. I ended...up agreeing to stay and spent like 268 baht on a smoothie bowl! That is so expensive for Thailand. So I stayed on my laptop anyways and got my homework done, and when I was about to leave the lady came up to me and asked if I had a problem with the policy and I do because it is ridiculous. Won't be back. Too overhyped. 2 stars because I liked my bowl but it costed too much.More
