It's set in a beautiful building with nice ambience however the food was highly average for Hanoi & service was sloppy tonight & so, combined with the high prices & small portion sizes, I was left rather hungry & dissapointed. Having been in Hanoi for 2 years I can definitely see why people visit Au Lac; it's set in a... More

We came here for dinner after going to see a show at the Opera House which is about a 10 minute walk. The Villa is absolutely stunning and restored beautifully. The dining room was spacious. We ordered about 6 mains which we shared and I must say the soft shell crab needs a special mention.

Went to Au Lac on recombination from our tour guide for authentic Vietnamese food & it didn't disappoint, but a little pricey by Vietnamese standards. Our bill for two came to 813000 dong for 1x prawns with cashsew nuts? 1× deep fried prawns, glass egg noodles with crab (exceptional), 1× fried egg plant& salted egg & 2× beers. Lovely old... More

Decent local food though I must confess to the opinion that northern cuisine hasn't the variety of the south. We sat outside on the veranda. The air was refreshing on an April evening. Unfortunately, the parapet next to our table had several months' worth of dust and grime. Food was decent, but slightly pricey. Worth a visit just to see... More

I have been traveling through Vietnam now for 2 weeks and this meal would easily be the best I have eaten. Fresh Clean and not oily. Very authentic and amazing flavor to match the old French decor of the house. The wine was well priced and I would highly recommend it for anyone

A high-end slightly formal restaurant, housed in an old colonial house in the French quarter, along the leafy Tran Hung Dao. Very good vietnamese food, including veggie choices. You'd need to book, number of tables is limited, and some tour-operators have it on their schedule. Popular for business lunches as well. For the cooler months, try the tables outside on... More

I enjoyed a business diner at this beautiful restaurant. The restaurant is formerly a very old and elegant house. The dining is in the old rooms of the house, so there is a limited number of table in each room. This made for a very pleasant atmosphere. The food was excellent. I highly recommend Au Lac House

This restaurant was recommended in guide books and by our local guide I could not believe the meal we had for less than fifty dollars including a bottle of nice wine. The service was perfect, portions large (please share!) and the food delicious. The atmosphere is very nice and if you're lucky and the weather is warm, you can eat... More

If you want to experience quality Vietnamese food in a setting of past French colonialism, this is the place to go. They have several floors with separate dining rooms and an outside dining terrace. The service is very good, although the vastness of this place sometimes makes it difficult to find a waiter to attend to your needs. The menu... More
