Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent staff and service. Food is good but not exceptional. Worth a visit combined with the shop at Barefoot. Sunday jazz at lunchtime creates a chilled environment.

Super cool courtyard with yummy food. I recommend the fish pasta special or the chicken with roti special and beer on tap. Then have a shop at Barefoot afterwards.

We went to listen to jazz and had a great experience. We were fortunate to get a table in the shade across from where the musicians were performing which made it that much more enjoyable. We ordered some drinks and lunch and the selection although...not great was tasty and the service was good considering that it was a very busy day. I will definitely go back another day.More

This place is great for a chilled atmosphere listing to some live music (Sundays) enjoying a drink and meal/snack. It gets busy on a Sunday lunchtime/pm so you might need to wait for a table.

We've visited the Barefoot cafe over many years. Today started off as a usual relaxed lunch with friends and kids. As with kids together, they were quite active, and when asked to stay away from the gallery, we agreed and asked them to do so....However, eventually after two separate requests to ask the children not to go close to consumers as their chatter was disturbing, they asked us to leave. Sighting that there was a gentleman who had said that it was disturbing their meal to have children running around, and they would write negative reviews affecting their business. Safe to say that the way this was handled left a very bitter taste and that our days of visiting the Barefoot cafe will be taking an extended break. If the cafe does not wish to have children or locals it should clearly state so.More

Have been here a number of times, at all times of the day and week and the service food etc has usually been consistent offering fairly good value on the whole for average to good food. However its very noticeable how things are changing, some...staff are still good at keeping an eye on customers whilst some are just either totally disinterested or poor at service levels and have now a few times given up and not had eaten there. Afraid none of us will not just sit and wait, and wait.... Food, I have noticed the portions are not consistent, sometimes 3 pieces of an item then next order 2 and not always up to scratch. I know prices are going up generally but the prices of food here have really gone up a lot in cases, Quiche Lorraine 3700slr (plus tax and service) thats almost $12 or £9.50 (++) for a bit of quiche and a tiny salad and Modha and rice 4400slr, $14 or £11 (++). Over 2000slr from not that long ago. People are really going to think about spending those amounts when out with family and friends, we certainly did. As much as I like the ambience of the cafe, outside with a breeze if you are lucky in the greenery, its a cafe charging restaurant prices. I will still continue to visit if I get served but the food, well we will be thinking twice about ordering at those prices. But sure as long as its on the guide book trail to visit, tourists may still pay the prices.More

First visit. Slow service by uninterested staff, average coffee, totally uninspiring menu. Decided not to choose food, then noticed no one else was eating either. Nice cool spot in Central colombo but tables and chairs don't match and it all looks a bit tacky!

Nice courtyard setting away from the main road . Full of nice sculptures , art and colonial style architecture. We are in Sri Lanka the land of the finest tea and they serve Lipton which is essentially the cheapest and below standard tea ??? And...they charge for it! They also removed the nice biscuit they used to serve with coffee. These little things make a difference to me ;)More

This place is beautiful. A really nice place to relax and enjoy some good food with some nice music playing. We ate Sri Lankan breakfast and some onion bajis. And the service was really good, our waiter Tuan was very friendly and helpful.

Went for a quick bite, service was poor. Took ages to get drinks but food was quick. Black pork curry was delicious, my partner asked for zero spice in her Pad Thai which the waiter said was no problem and there were chunks of fresh...chillies mixed into it - she wasn’t impressed. Clearly a mistake (we all make them) but added on top of poor service didn’t help. We then went to the shop…on entry my wife was told she couldn’t take her bag in - it was an open top firm cardboard style shopping bag. The likes you see often. She was told there were no outside bags allowed, but my canvas shoulder bag was fine… We said we didn’t want to leave it outside and I suggested that if they were worried about us having another shop’s branded bag in the store then we could cover the brand up with some receipt paper. Instead the lady tried to staple the bag closed - turns out they’re worried about us stealing. They were treating my wife as if she was a thief, we had done nothing. Horrendous. This is a nice place, and not somewhere I appreciate people assuming we’re thieves. We’re on our last day of the trip and were ready so spend a lot of money in there on gifts, instead we walked out. Terrible experience.More
